3. This was an interesting chapter to read about change management. In order to effectively manage through change, there has to be an intentional focus to move from bias to validity and accountability. This is true whether the change is related to processes or people. This is a great summary of chapter 6. We need to validate by debunking practices that appear to be negative and develop policies based on research. Knowledge is power in this case. The knowledge of how to be accountable for the commitment to change is not easy, but it’s not hard. We need to identify easy ways in which we can hold ourselves and others accountable to the management of change. To create an atmosphere of accepting change, it is important to empower others to try new things, just make sure to try them systematically and learn from everything that you try.
4. I couldn’t agree with you more about this chapter. I was totally captivated by everything I read, but walked away from my desk saying “huh, he just debunked everything I was just taught in all my other classes about understanding human behavior. Every class I have taken since November has touched on understanding human behavior is one form or another. The author states that “When change implementation gets stuck, it is often because those notions are formed of bad ideas about people, which lead to bad ideas about how to produce engagement, commitment, and passion, or fail to combat resistance, cynicism, and apathy” (Gibbons, 2015). I am anxious to get on to the next two chapters to hear this authors ideas for changing behaviors, hearts and minds!
