Texting currently is impacting teenagers in today’s society. Teens text everywhere; in school, work, and even while driving. This unhealthy habit could possibly be causing a shift in the way adolescents develop (Hefner, “Texting May Be Taking a Toll”). Many of the teenagers who spend an obsessive amount of time texting are at risk of unhealthy behaviors (Pedersen, “Hyper-Texting Associated with Health Risks for Teens”). Teen’s don’t realize how much they can be affected by their cell phones.

Texting is taking a toll on teenage behaviors. Behaviors of teens have changed though generations because of items or people having effect on them. For example, texting gives teenagers opportunities to text their parents all day. Teenagers are expected to break free from their parents as they grow into adults, but because of cell phones it is harder to do because now there are some adolescents who are texting their mothers 15 times a day (Hefner, “Texting May Be Taking a Toll”). If teens are always in contact with their parents they can’t break free and live on their own when they are older.

In addition to this, teenagers are more likely to do irresponsible things if they text obsessively. These teens are 40 percent more likely to have tried cigarettes, two times more likely to have tried alcohol, 43 percent more likely to have used illicit drugs, 55 percent more likely to have been in a physical fight, nearly three-and-a-half times more likely to have had sex and 90 percent more likely to report four or more sexual partners (Pedersen, “Hyper-Texting Associated with Health Risks for Teens”). Texting is getting more and more influential in some teen’s lives.

The physical and mental issues with texting could range from anxiety to thumb damage. Michael Hausauer, a psychotherapist in Oakland, California, said teenagers had a “terrific interest in knowing what’s going on in the lives of their peers, coupled with a terrific anxiety about being out of the loop” (Hefner, “Texting May Be Taking a Toll”). Teenagers always need to know what’s going on in their friends life, they text, they go on facebook, do anything to be in contact with their friends. So, if they lose that contact they get anxious, and not know what to do if they are not texting every minute.

According to the findings at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine Study, nearly 20 percent of the teenage participants were “hyper-texters.” The researchers defined “hyper-texting” as texting more than 120 messages per school day (Pederson, “Hyper-Texting Associated with Health Risks for Teens”). Along with this, teens that text too much can get thumb damage. As said by Peter W. Johnson, “Based on our experiences with computer users, we know intensive repetitive use of the upper extremities can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, and that too much texting could lead to temporary or permanent damage to the thumbs”(Hefner, “Texting May Be Taking a Toll”). Texting causes problems that are not an easy fix, but teenagers don’t realize this.

Texting and driving has been a problem not only for teens, but for everyone these days. The only difference between teen texting and driving and adult texting and driving is, adults know what they are risking, the consequences of this action, and teens don’t. The long term consequences of texting and driving are rarely thought of when the action is done. For instance, Taylor Sauer was driving along 1-84, passing the time by messaging a friend on facebook, but she stopped short, writing her final massive, “I can’t discuss this now.

Driving and facebooking is not safe! Haha.” Moments later, she crashed into a truck that was slowly climbing the hill and was killed instantly (Inbar,”Parents of Teen who Died Texting and Driving: Kids Think They’re Invincible”). Death, trauma, damage to the brain, lost limbs, these are all examples of long term consequences of texting and driving, but some teens don’t even think twice about them. Some teenagers use texting as a distraction when they are driving, like to stay awake on a long ride or if they are board. Just like Taylor Sauer’s father thought as he told TODAY, “I think she was probably (texting) to stay awake, she was probably tired.

But that’s not a reason to do it, and the kids think they’re invincible. To them, (texting) is not distracting, they’re so proficient at texting, that they don’t feel it’s distracted driving” (Inbar, “Parents of Teen who Died Texting and Driving: Kids Think They’re Invincible”). There are ways to prevent texting and driving, but that involves teens, and adults, to follow through and act on these prevention rules.

Like Taylor Sauer’s father said, “I think every state should have the (texting ban) law. It might not make changes right now, but (for) the younger generations it will be an educational tool, just like the seat belt (law)” (Inbar,”Parents of Teen who Died Texting and Driving: Kids Think They’re Invincible”). There may be laws, there may be rules, but it’s everybody’s responsibility and job to enforce these facts on the generations to come to keep more people safe.

All in all, texting can take a toll on behaviors, can cause physical and mental issues, and texting while driving can cause serious damage. Teenagers just text everywhere and they don’t realize how much they can be affected by their cell phones. There are many facts about teenage texting that most didn’t know. Texting may have its advantages, but it also has its consequences, will you choose to text responsibly?

In a high school in Texas, there’s a table set up in the corner of the lunch room. Two clean cut men sit behind it, chatting casually about something unimportant. They’re trying to get high school students to join the military. But in this particular high school, the students aren’t allowed to drink soda or leave the cafeteria for lunch; because they’re not capable of making healthy meal choices. So the question here is should the military age enlistment be raised to 21?

There are so many speculations about why not should the age be raised. one can be that we would have a much smaller military or a lot of teens who join the military for the benefit for college cannot will afford to go. But the fact is that an 18 year old kid is too immature for many reasons.

Recently released studies indicate that our decision making capabilities are not fully developed until we reach our early 20s. That data would indicate that not only would the average teenager be unable to make a wise decision in life but also mean that will be unable to make quality decisions while in the service.

Also another hypothesis its, why in to many states, young people under the age of 21 are considered to be too immature to drink alcohol or to vote in this country, but the government can put a deadly weapon into their hands to make a life or death decision. in order to these there are not well educated to make a well informed decision. I’m not saying that something miraculous occurs by the time they turn 21, but that will give them a little more experience to make the right choice. In considering this subject, two phrases come to my mind: Young and dumb and older but wiser. Those two key phrases say a lot about maturity and the human mind.

So my conclusion is, the government accepts that an 18 year old is too immature to use alcohol responsibly, to leave school grounds, or to pick a college course without some guidance. But if our culture is willing to accept those as truth, we must also accept that an 18 year old is not mature enough to make a measured decision to go to war-and certainly an 18 year old is not mature enough to engage in that war with a full understanding of what that means.

We all come from different places each with different levels of development. Nonetheless, each one of us has

something that we don’t like about our hometown. This is probably why many people who were born and raised in different hometowns want to leave the area at least once they grow up. This means an improvement would probably retain some of these people and would attract new ones. If I were to change my town, I would change several things.

First, I would invite investors or start-ups to my town. Young people are moving out mostly to get good jobs.  You can’t make It just earning a couple of a hundred dollars serving coffee and pancakes at the local breakfast place or being a waitress at the local drinking joint. With inv

estors, job opportunities are created and this means people will no longer move away, as they have always done. This will ultimately result in the growth of the town as the residents Will have money to spend.

I would revive the local community center and turn it into a center for the youth where they don’t only come

to interact but learn life skills and short business courses. The center will also serve as a link between companies and potential employees that exist among the youth in my area. This would ultimately make the town grow faster and attract people from other areas who are seeking employment.

There are many changes that should be done in my hometown but I would rather focus on the youth because

they are the town’s future. If they do not work on it then there will be nothing to come back home to and we will all

have to blame ourselves because it was handed over to us but we did nothing. Empowering the youth would

ultimately have a multiplier effect on the town, which means everyone will benefit directly or indirectly.

Gothic Art is art of the Middle Ages. Early Middle Age art is also known as the Dark ages (410 AD-ADDED). After the Dark ages came the Medieval era (1066-1485) Then on to the Renaissance era. In the Middle Ages the Roman Empire was spilt into two sections, the Eastern and the Western part of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire fell, the Western part disintegrated, while the Eastern or Byzantium Empire stayed intact. The art reflects the differences between the development of Catholic Religion and the Byzantium Empire.

Byzantium Art had characteristics of religious art, somber tones, flat, one dimensional, no shadows, narrow, and solemn faces. Medieval Gothic Art broke away from Byzantium Art and Romanesque styles. Changes included : Brighter colors, sculptures, metal work out of bronze, stained glass, use of shadows and light, use of symmetry, and depiction of animals and mythological scenes (middle-ages. Com, 2013). Ghetto did Bonnet’s The Last Supper was a painting from this period. Renaissance Art began in Italy around the late 13th and early 14th entry and continued through the 17th century.

Art from this period was mostly of religious nature. It was described as a period of rebirth. This was a time of greater prosperity and new technologies. There were three major phases of Renaissance Art, Early, High, and Late. In these phases inspiration came from antiquity, creating realistic figures that had portrayed personality and behavior (history. Com, 2013). Focus was on the laws of proportion for architecture, human body, and space. Experimentation with oil based paints allowed the artist to change his art as he shed for months as it didn’t dry fast.

Leonardo dad Vine’s The Last Supper was a famous painting from this opened. ART 2 The Last Supper by Ghetto did Bonded and Leonardo dad Vinci both were based on the New Testament. In the Last Supper by Ghetto did Bonded, he did not attempt to imitate reality; there is no depth, and no light source. The goal was to teach the Christian faith. The Last Supper by Leonardo dad Vinci was the first to depict reality, with each person displaying an emotion. This is what made his work remarkable (history. Mom, 2013). Both Middle Age art and Renaissance art had religion as common ground. The Middle Ages was a separation of the Western and Eastern Roman Empire. It reflected the difference between the development of the Catholic religion in the west and Byzantium Empire. Renaissance art was mostly religious stemming from the end of the Middle Ages. Renaissance art was more visually accurate and secular. It had more realistic backgrounds that indicated realism, creativity and appreciation of physical nature.

The purpose was decoration and self-expression, not like the middle ages. By Renaissance art introducing realism, it allowed the common person to enjoy tales, and this tradition continues in today’s society. As the Renaissance art went out, mannerism came in. It was a different kind of art. It showed more clashing colors, disquieting figures, emotion, and bizarre themes that combined classicism, Christianity, and mythology (about. Com, 2013)

Proper Driving Age

At this point you’re probably wondering when you can start driving, but this is way more puzzling than it seems! I chose the driving age to be 18 and not 16, because 18 is when you become a responsible adult about every situation. 

To begin with this, it all should do with what the parents decide. Some parents are less strict about the situation and the safety of their child. While others support the reasoning to raise the driving age to 18. Therefore, “In 2003, there were 937 drivers age 16 who were involved in fatal crashes. In those wrecks, 411 of the 16-year-old drivers died and 352 of their passengers were killed.” (Page 1)

Only because of the simple causes the road can bring to teenagers that drive. Another acceptable reason why you should raise the driving age is, “16- year- old’s brain is generally far less developed than those of teens just a little older.” (Page 1) At 16 you’re not fully familiar with your surroundings or what might happen that’s dangerous on the road. 

Another reason why the government wants to raise the driving age is, because it’s been witnessed that, “most fatal crashes with 16-year-old drivers (77%) involved driver errors, especially the kind most common among novices. Speeding, overcorrecting after veering off the road, and losing control when facing a roadway obstacle that a more mature driver would be more likely to handle safely.” (Page 2)

Many teens can’t focus and stay in control when their brain in telling them to make sharp moves in a tricky situation. Let’s say if a 16-year-old is driving by themselves and they decide to pass on a red light when another vehicle is coming towards them at an angle. The first reaction to the teenager is telling them to press on their brakes; but all that’s doing is giving the other vehicle a wide opportunity to hit you then and there. First, you should have known to stop at a red light to play it safe or stay on your guard and make sure you don’t make any mistakes! 

A simple situation to prevent accidents at this young of age is to take an adult with you. The adult would guide you and give you on the road advise that you’d need later on. If you accidentally make a simple mistake for example, the wrong turn, forgetting to put on your blinker, or stopping every time at red lights; they’ll tell you.

Your parents are more experienced drivers than you, because they drive almost every day. So, asking them simple questions will help you become as good of drivers as them. Another simple situation to help with less accidents on the road will be practice. “However new drivers that drive a lot under favorable conditions gain experience and become safer drivers…” (Page 4)

Teens that drive way more often tend to get in less accidents. So, would you expect an unexperienced teenager to be driving on a freeway for the first time? Maybe not, so learn how to drive before you go on; this takes practice. At first your scared and less obligated with the road, then after lots of experience you feel much more comfortable being behind the wheel.

In conclusion, 16-year-old brains are not as aware of their surroundings as older teens. Their brains are still developing and experiencing new things which leads them to overreact in some cases. I’d say changing the new driving age to 18 would engage a better and safer community!

Do you think the teen driving age should be raised? Most of society thinks that it should.
There have been tons of evidence to encourage that the driving age should be raised. In 2008, 2,739 teen drivers were killed and 228,000 were injured in an accident. Some reasons for this are because teens become more reckless with age. They also get distracted without much difficulty. How much do you know about teen driving laws? There are multiple laws out in the world to help teens drive safer. If you are a parent to a teen help them make the right choices and drive safe.

A lot of teens become more reckless while driving as they get older. This is because the teens become over-confident in their driver abilities. Studies show that 75 percent of teens are confident in their driving skills. Also 71 percent of those teens use a phone while driving. Teens in the 12th grade have been involved in more than half of the crashed containing teens. Mike Sample, who is lead driver-safety consultant at Liberty Mutual, said “Older teens are still inexperienced drivers — even if they feel otherwise.” Most of the time teens get confident they can drive while texting because they have done it before and don’t see the harm in it.

Teens also get distracted really easy. This is because they are still at the stage when their brain is still developing and their attention p is not that large. They get distracted by their phone, other passengers, things that are happening outside of the car, and when a teen is frustrated or have other strong emotions that can cause a teen to drive recklessly. Some precautions that you can take to help your teen drive safe are influencing them to turn off the notifications on their phone, not always driving with friends, and also driving with them. As a parent you should talk to your teen about safe driving.

There have been numerous teenage driving laws that have been placed to help teens drive safer. It all comes down to the fact if they want to follow it and if it is enforced. One law that has been placed are that teens must meet certain requirements before they can get a license. There is also another one that is very helpful and that is teens can not drive with other teenagers. These laws became in effect around the 1990’s but have also attributed to 30 percent decrease in highway crashes. Parents all around the U.S. should introduce their kids to these laws and help compel their teens to follow them.

Some people many not agree with the driving age being raised, some think it is a fantastic idea because teenagers have overall the highest crash rate. “The most dangerous two years of your life are between the ages 16 and 17, and the reason for that is driving,” said Nicole Morris. As there have been some improvements there has also been some downfall. Such as teens that do not want to follow the new 16-17 driving laws wait until they are 18 so they don’t have to go through all of the training and safety lessons. You should always enforce driving laws to protect teen lives. Do you think the road is safe with teens driving without any regard for their safety or others safety?

Should the age 16 be the legal driving age? Studies show that at the ages sixteen and seventeen you are more likely to die than any other age in your life and the reason for that is driving. In 2013 just a little under a million teenage drivers were involved in reported crashes according to AAA. However even with all the accidents that happen between the ages of sixteen and seventeen, sixteen is still the perfect age to start driving, but the training for teenage drivers needs to be more drastic.

One of the biggest problems with teenage drivers is texting and driving. Over the years with so many advances in technology this problem has just gotten worse. When teenagers are driving it should not just be the driver that must be responsible for staying off their phone while driving, it should also be the passengers. When the driver sees their passengers on their phones they are more likely to grab their own phone and get on themselves. So hold each other accountable and help the driver to stay off the phone while driving it could save lives.

Another one of the biggest problems with teenage driving is having non-family members in the car before before the driver is ready for that kind of responsibility. Adding just one non-family passenger to a teenage driver’s car increases the chance of a crash by 44% the risk doubles with another and quadruples with three or more. Now in order to keep this from happening parents should make sure their kids are ready before they allow their children with other non-family members in the car. By doing this the risk for a crash will drop substantially and that’s all we really want as parents, to make sure our children are safe.

One of the biggest problems if not the biggest problem for teenage drivers is drinking and driving. In 2013 almost one third of teenage drivers killed in crashes had been drinking. Over the years this problem has just gotten worse because of peer pressure, trying to fit in with the popular kids and addiction. As parents it should be our responsibility to make sure our children know their values so that when the time comes to say no they will have the will power to be able to say no.

In conclusion teenage drivers have always been a problem when it comes to accidents. However that does not mean that we need to change the age at which we can learn how to drive, it just means that we need to have more rules and regulations for young drivers to keep them out of harms way. Parents need to make sure that their children are able to know the difference between making a dumb decision that could cause someone to lose their life, and choosing the smart decision and staying away from things that teenage drivers are too inexperienced to know how to do in a high risk situation.
