Ball State University Athletic Coaching Education Utilizing the Power Clean Essay
I’m studying and need help with a Philosophy question to help me learn.
Utilizing the Power Clean
SPORT: FOOTBALL
Power training is important for sports where sudden bursts of activity are required — sprinting, jumping, changing direction, moving solid objects quickly and so on. You can probably see how football, basketball, soccer, tennis, track and field athletics, golf, softball and baseball are all relevant in this context. Ultimately, training for power requires that you do exercises in which the speed of the exercise movement is relatively high, includes a load, and is executed with some explosive intent. The Olympic lifts — the clean and jerk and the snatch — form the basis of many power programs. Derivatives of these lifts like the power clean exercise are useful for power development. This whole-body, compound exercise works the upper and lower body.
It is extremely important that athletes perform the Olympic lifts correctly. This means teaching lifts through a progression designed to implement proper form. Doing the exercises incorrectly, which is the case with the vast majority of young athletes, reduces the effect of the lift and creates a much higher likelihood of injury.
Using the resource on the power clean posted under the Reading Assignment describe a concise teaching progression that you would use with the exercise. In the teaching progression break it down into cue words in the 6 key positions of the exercise. Please utilize at least one term from the biomechanics power point in your description. I am interested in proper terminology from the literature in this teaching progression.
In three or four sentences, please describe how this exercise is utilized in your training program. If it is not currently used, describe how it might benefit your athletes.
I would like to see each one of you exchange ideas with your group members about using the Olympic lifts in your training program.
