Birthday Party

For over 400 years the death penalty and executions have been taking place, the earliest known recorded execution was in 1608. In the earlier years of the death penalty it was much easier to receive the sentence than it is in current day. There have been over 20,000 executions in the US since time has recorded them over half of which have been carried out by hanging. There are five main types of execution hanging, firing squad, gas chamber, electrocution, and lethal injection. Today in the United States lethal injection being the most common way an execution is carried out.

The list is long and one you do not want to be one and unluckily for Erick Daniel Davila he has ended up on this list. But he is no saint and he does deserve to have made this list for what he has done in Texas. On April 25, 2018 just last year this murderer was put to death by lethal injection in Huntsville, Texas’s prison. He only spent nine short years on death row which is relatively few compared to most death row sentences, most spend on average fifteen years before they get the sweet concoction they’ve been waiting that long-dreaded time for.

At Davila’s execution day he was only thirty-one years old and he spent only nine years in prison waiting to be executed. That means that at a young age of twenty-one years old Davila committed this crime and was sentenced. What a young age to be receiving the death sentence most young adults at the age of twenty-one can’t wait to have their first legal drink. Who knows this Davila was reportedly at a birthday party and opened fire so maybe he did have his first few drinks but ended badly for him since he must be a lightweight.

Let’s go back to where it all began for this Davila all beginning in 2008 at a young children’s birthday party. (Herskovitz) Davila was believed to not have a intention to kill going into the party but when he saw a rival gang member that he had beef with things all went down the drain and anything was fair game. The birthday party was for one of Annette Stevenson’s granddaughters. Annette Stevenson being one of the two people fatally shot by Davila. The other killed was fiver-year-old Queshawn Stevenson. The party took place at the Stevenson’s residence in Fort Worth, Texas. All the guests at the party were children or adult women except for Jerry Stevenson, Queshawn’s father. (Davis) Around 8 PM guests were on the porch of the Stevenson’s residence when a black Mazda passed by the house slowly. A few minutes later witnesses at the party saw a man run out front of the house and start shooting at the hose and at the guests of the party. Multiple children and adults were injured from the shooting. Annette and Queshawn were the only ones to die from their injuries.

The police investigation of the shooting later led to the arrest of twenty-one-year-old Erick Daniel Davila who gave four written statements within seven hours after being in custody. Davila was a member of the Bloods Gang. (Davis) while awaiting his trial and sentencing Davila tried escaping from jail and seriously injuring a detention officer in the process. He had committed an aggravated robbery and an additional murder only two days before the shooting took place. After deliberation the jury returned with a sentence of death for the young 21 year-old

Depression or anxiety are very common in our society, there are condition that are very hard to detect among people. If depression or anxiety is severe, a person requires medical treatment before he/she gets better. Just like, if you were in an accident and had a deep cut, you don’t except that to heal by itself. It requires a treatment that helps it heal, without doing so it might damage you physically are mentally. Most people in our society, imagine depression equals “being sad,” unless you have experienced depression yourself, you might not know it goes so much deeper than that. As I have learned in my pervious psychology, depression expresses itself in many ways, some more obvious than others while some people have a hard time getting out of bed. Other waking up might come easily to them, overall depression and anxiety is expressed in different ways for everyone.

Too often, I tend to assume negatively when people can’t meet my obligation. Unless somebody has a major disability, it is hard to tell if they are not meeting my obligation purposely or because of a mental health illness. Unless I know the symptoms of the mental health illness my first though is to assume that the individual is lazy or doesn’t understand what I’m asking for he/she to accomplish. I start to think to myself that the person doesn’t like me because they won’t meet my obligations. It is also, disappointing when you trust an individual and when you ask them to perform a certain task and they can’t do it because of anxiety or depression. It feels like they are slowing you down. Sometimes it helps to remember that it’s not their fault they can’t really control it because their anxiety and depression takes over and it tells them how to live their personal life’s, and how to respond to people questions.

For example, couple weeks ago it was my father’s 70th birthday. I invited my sister in law, to come celebrate my dad’s 70th birthday with us in Salt Lake City Utah. She asked, how many people will be at my father’s birthday party and where is it going to be, and how long it will be. I thought to myself all this questions that she was asking are irrelevant to the question I asked her. She finally, answered that she can’t make it to my father’s 70th birthday party. Because she was tired and wasn’t feeling too good. This wasn’t a good enough reason to not come to my father’s birthday party. I started to judge her in my mind and calling her lazy. I guess my mind took over, and I didn’t even realize what I was saying and thinking at the time. Her response triggered my thoughts and my response to her was very negative. At the time, I didn’t realize she had major depression. I just thought that she was being rude and trying to be purposefully antisocial.

I have come to realize, often when people are feeling bad they don’t want to go out and do anything. Everything feels just too hard. I have learned to encourage them to do something with them with great support. Other time I have come to understand, that it is important to explain things much clearly and give people options before I give them an obligation, this lessons the chance of saying no. Sometimes depressed and anxious people have a lonely experience. I have learned that the most important thing, is supporting people and never judge them because of not meeting your expectations or obligation they have to you. Before my negative assumptions takes over, it helps to remember that we all experience some of depression symptoms from time to time. It also, helps me think positively when I remember, that in our society we are not obligated to do anything. but not doing anything might have some consequences.

Belinda is a nice,responsible 10 year old girl. It’s only two days before her birthday comes along on November 12. She’ already handing out the invitations for her birthday party, but only to her friends. It’s time for dinner and she forgot to hand and invitation to her best friend , she yells out to her parents “Mom i’ll be back home soon, I just need to go to Mia’s place to give her the invitation real quick.” Belinda says. “Ok, but come back right away …..” My mom says, but by then i’m right out the door heading towards mia’s place.

Plip! Plop! I hear, as my shoes step on small puddles and make small splashes along the way. It’s really hard to walk past everything knowing that around me are amazing wonders that I have yet not discovered, but I must resist my intentions I have to get back home in time for dinner. “Hey you lady!” A drunk man yells at me . “Hello sir” I tell him. “You are a really pretty girl,you know.” the drunk guy tells me. “Why thank you kind sir!” I tell him. “ What are you doing pretty girl?” the drunk guy asks me. “I’m going to my friends house and giving her this invitation.” I tell him. “Why come and i’ll take you to the house in my van.” The drunk guy tells me while holding my hand,so I do as he says.

Moments later i’m in the drunk guys van.“Quiet jerry! You’re scaring the pretty girl.” The drunk guy screams into thin air. Me sitting there in the back staring at the drunk guy made me realize that the drunk guy wasn’t drunk he was just trying to make me laff. “Yeah I know jerry,she is a pretty girl right we got lucky this time. “The drunk guy started to talk to thin air again. Later that day we stopped at a market and I just followed the drunk guy in. Ring! Ring! The doorbell rang as more people came into the market. “Come on pretty girl, we need to go.” the drunk guy told me. One hour later i’m falling asleep, and the last thing I see is and old abandoned building. Two seconds later and I see a different building this time it was blue,but also abandoned.

I wake up and find myself lying on the dirty cold floor.I see the drunk guy laying on the floor too but with a broken beer bottle on the floor and some of the beer spilled on him.I finally realized that this guy was trying to steal me,and that he was going to take me away from my family, so I made a run for it. Crash!!!!! I accidently dropped one of the many bottles of beer that the guy had. “Come back pretty girl!” the guy yelled at me but I ignored him and just keep running towards my house. Slam! I shut the front door, I told my parents about what had happened with me and the drunk guy. They made and exception not to ground me forever but that I couldn’t have my birthday party. Nock! Nock! , it was the drunk guy at the door yelling pretty girl. My parents called the cops right away and the drunk guy got sent to jail.

After the drunk guy was gone I burst into tears,knowing that I was going to get stolen and with me not even noticing at all.

Motivation is what drives people to do the things they do. The motivation can be healthy or harmful and it will impact the action. In “The Street of The Canon” the setting takes place in a Mexican birthday party which a man with a box from another town. Crashes the celebration with people not knowing who he truly is and dance with the birthday girl. Then people start to suspect the box and quickly identify who the man is. Right before he leaves he tells the girl to marry him on a Sunday then vanishes. In the story “A Problem” a young lad named Sasha who lost everything when he was a kid about then taken by his uncles. Sasha’s uncles have to save their family name and pay any debt that Sasha owns or sending Sasha to work. In the end, Sasha realizes his action is that of a criminal. Characters that have the same conflict, have a different motivation for their actions.

In “The Street of The Canon” a man that is from a different town crashes a birthday party form an enemy town. Later we know the man is Pepe Gonzalez the leader of his town. “They attempt to steal the bones of Don Romolo Balderas”(44). The birthday girl just told Pepe that some attempt and successfully stole the bones of Don Romolo Balders not knowing that one of the thieves is the man she is dancing if. The motivation for Pepe’s action is that he wants to put the bones where they belong.

In “ A Problem” a young lad Sasha is in horrifying problem which he is placed into debt for trying to forging an IOU. So he can get money off of IOU but backfired. Now his uncles has to pay for debt. However Sasha keeps “borrowing” that he keeps saying that he will pay for it back, but never does which adds more money to his debt that Sasha’s uncles are already paying. “Now I see that I am a criminal; yes, I am a criminal”(74). This was said by Sasha at the end of the story when he finally realize his sin. The motivation for Sasha’s action is that he was just too lazy to take care of his own conflicts.

Both Sasha and Pepe have a different motivation for the action but still having a similar conflict. The similarly that both characters show is that they were thieving for a reason. Mostly stealing from another person or places with a fear of getting caught. The difference motive for the characters is that Pepe stole because he thought that the bones of Don Rome belong to them since he was born in Pepe’s hometown. However, Shash motives are that he just wants money for his personal gain and does not consider his action will have consequences. “But naturally. He has a talent”(45). Unlike Sasha, Pepe Has a talent for thieving and was completey aware about the consequences of his actions as seen in quote.

Characters that have the same conflict, will have a different motivation for their action. Has seen explained with two characters with a similar conflict, but opposite motivations. Pepe’s actual motivation was to do the best for his town. Sasha’s actual motivation for his action was he just wants to get what he wants it for personal gain and not have to work for it. Some motivation is good and bad, also the motivation can affect the action of a person. Some motivation is for yourself or another person.

A birthday is a very wonderful day. Everybody likes to celebrate it. It is a good opportunity to spend time with friends, parents, relatives. My 17th birthday party last year was a really memorable occasion. I celebrated it at home in the evening. All my friends came and we had a lot of fun. Preparations began a day before the celebration. My mother and I cleaned the house. Many delicious dishes were cooked, the rooms were decorated with balloons and steamers. In the morning of birthday party day my father went shopping and bought everything we needed.

All the invitations were sent one week before the celebration. In the morning on my birthday my parents put the presents near my bed. So, the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was my presents. My mom and daddy and my little brother came to my room to congratulate me and to sing ?«Happy Birthday?». By the evening food was cooked, the table was laid. We put on evening suits and dresses and waited for the guests. The flat looked nice and cosy. I was very glad to meet my guests. I got a lot of flowers, presents and Birthday cards.

We had an abundant dinner on this day. My mother bought in the birthday cake and I blew the candles out. We danced and sang songs, played games and laughed, Joked, told funny stories, listened to the music. I think that my birthday is one of the best days in a year. The entire evening was a huge success and everyone agreed that we had a lot of fun. It certainly was the best party I have ever had, because of the great pleasure it gave me to see so many of my friends and relatives together in the same place. I think I shall remember my party for a long time to come.
