Introduction

• Thesis Statement: Should hate speech be censored? Yes hate speech should be censored for numerous of reasons due toff the effects it will bring to our society.
• Expanded Thesis Statement: Yet people might believe that hate speech should be allowed due to belief of freedom of speech, hate speech weather it’s allowed or not still does not make it right.

It does not make it right because it most likely leads to bigger issues such as riots, physical abuse, and conflicts. I believe people are allowed to speak their mind and do have freedom of speech but to a certain point.

Background: Four Teenagers were arrested in December of 2006 for insulting North Koreans. The hate speech was toward their nationality which ended up as a major conflict.

Argument One: Hate speech leads to conflicts, riots, and disagreements in society

• It hurts individual groups, such as people religion, background, beliefs and more.
• Leads to moral damage. Also damages social structure in society
• Even things such as computer games or internet communication with friends can lead to international conflict and cyber bullying

Argument Two: Hate speech leads to violent crimes

• If the number of hate crimes are decreased, we improve the welfare of society
• Because of hate speech society becomes more violent and leads to violent crimes
• To avoid conflict, hate speech should not be allowed when it comedown down to certain things such as racism, religion, and culture

Argument Three: Hate speech through the Internet also known as cyber bullying causes many incidents of teenage suicides

• Allow people might say censoring the internet for ate speech is nearly impossible due to freedom of speech it should still be overlooked because of its causes and efforts to the people around us
• More and more suicides are becoming a major issue in our nation because of hate speech and violence
• It affects people’s lives regardless and should be taken notice weather it’s censored or not, it should not be allowed to a certain point.

• Although people believe of freedom of speech and speaking there mind, Hate speech should be censored due to a certain point

Just a year’s ago the idea of social networks was revolutionary. Social network is a place where people go to connect with their friends, family, and love ones, some even use it to made new friends. Social networking service is a Web site that allows individuals to construct a public or semi-public profile. Social networking consist of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Tumbler, Pinterest, My space, Youtube, Google+, it’s a getaway or an easy way to communicate. But can it be good Hi5, FaceTime etc…. thing to socialize through?

The social networks has its pros and cons all depending n how you decide to use it. I myself use this kind of communication to stay connected with people. Without a doubt, the best reason to Join any social networking site is that it lets you make connections with other people. You can use social networking sites to stay up to speed with what your friends are doing. Social networks help us to made our society better in an away. Many of us are now able to once again connect with friends and relatives from far and wide without having to waste money paying for international phone calls.

We can also share elements of our life, from what we enjoy o photos of ourselves and those in our lives. It is like being a part of that person’s world, even though distance keeps you apart. At least one month I talk to my grandma in Dominican Republic by Skype, it help me to feel like I’m their next to her. This wed sides help to crimine-solving. The NYPD investigate gang-related crimes on social media networks. Recently, the NYPD nabbed about 60 gang members who boasted about violent criminal activity on social media (Samantha Rupert, 2013).

Another good example, The police was able to find the bother and dad of the guy that aused the Boston massacre throughout Facebook. Social media has made it possible for like minded individuals to discuss important topics, widen their personal knowledge and discover things they never knew before. For example, young people around the world are now more involved than ever in their countrys politics. The last presidential elections in the US are proof of that. Social media has contributed to that increase in a big way. However, social networks help to promote your business.

Million Americans received help with major life issues (changing Jobs, finding a new place to live, buying car, and caring for someone with an illness) from people in their social networks or advertisement. Many social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook make it easy to organize an event and invite your friends. Some sites allow you to group friends using different criteria, including geographic location. Last year with a couple of click in Facebook, I invite my friends and family to my birthday party and find the perfect outfit for that special day. Several social networking sites also act as application platforms.

You can find dozens of applications ranging from quizzes to games to estaurant review programs. This wed sides can be really helpful! Whether it’s via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, social media plays a major part in thing-primarily because it takes us away from what’s really important in life. Like the way it has allowed us to hide behind screens and limited our social interaction face to face. Just think of how many people you have on your Facebook friends list. How many of them do you see on a semi-regular basis? At all? Thanks to the social networks we are more likely to spend more time in our phone than with our family.

When I take the train at least 6 of 10 people are using their phones. Statistics of 2013 said that 4. 2 billion people use their mobile device to access social media sites and 79% of smartphones owners use their phone at least 2 hours at day (Fast Company, 2013). Perhaps the biggest online social networking drawback is that it makes identity theft easier. On the other hand, if you share too much you may discover that someone else is using your identity. They might even be destroying your credit rating or attempting to access your e-mail or financial information.

The phenomenon of social networking has taken todays youth culture by storm. At the same time, it has raised serious concerns about the security and privacy of the teenagers. Social medias are the reason of online predators, cyber bullying, ruined reputations, and other dangers have parents fearing the worst and wondering how to talk to their kids about the issue. What’s a parent to do? “As a parent, probably the best thing we can do for our teens is try to provide a solid example of how to balance our personal and our digital lives,” Vartabedian said. l think this technology is all ere to stay. It’s not going anywhere but the relationship that we share with that technology is something that we can influence and we can influence early on in life. ” I agree with Vartabedian, because the social networks are really popular and everyday is a new one. As a parents we need to understand that our kids will use it without permission or without it. The Technology always will be to assess of our kids, we Just need To teach them the right way. The statistics in social networks of 2013 show that over 5 million Facebook users are under the age often.

This is a stunningly large umber, which shows that young children have easy access to social media ( Mark scot, 2013). Social networks can be used for positive activities, like connecting kids with friends and family, helping students with school, and for entertainment. But these tools can also be used to hurt other people. one of the biggest problems of social networks is cyber bullying affects many adolescents and teens on a daily basis. Cyber bullying involves using technology, like cell phones and the Internet, to bully or harass another person.

Cyber bullying can be very damaging to adolescents and teens. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and even suicide. Also, once things are circulated on the Internet, they may never disappear, resurfacing at later times to renew the pain of cyber bullying. One famous example of Cyber bullying was 2010 – University student Tyler Clementi Jumped to his death off a bridge in September. Clementi’s sexual encounter with another man in his dorm room was video streamed on the internet by his roommate and a hallmate.

After the roommate’s second attempt to record another of Clementi’s sexual encounters, Clementi committed suicide (ABC News). On the one hand, the online predators is another problem that the society is Internet to steal personal information or search for victims. Crimes that involve online predators include kidnapping and child sex abuse. At least 1. 8 million children are used in commercial sex, many sold into sexual slavery by poor families and others abducted and trafficked into brothels (International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children).

The UN reports that 79% of human trafficking is sexual exploitation (International Centre for Missing ; Exploited Children, 2009). Catfish is omeone who pretends to be someone they’re not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances. The term “catfish” is derived from the title of a 2010 documentary film, in which filmmaker Nev Schulman discovers that woman he’d been carrying on an online relationship is a fake profile. There’s a good show in MTV that is called “Catfish” were Max and Joseph help people to meet persons that they have a relationship online.

For example, the episode of last week was about one guy that gave his credit card umber to the girl that he had a relationship online. Max and Joseph help him to meet her and the guy discover that she was a man. Sometime this people that made a fake profile, because the social networks & media created a certain image of how you supposed to look. The main reason of this fake profiles is because they don’t feel good about themselves and the feeling they don’t going to be accepted by the society by the way they look. Clay Shirky said, “Our social tools are not an improvement to modern society, they are a challenge to it. “

Steve Cuffs What’s the magical number to death? All thirteen people drove Hannah Baker straight to her grave. A permanent home for her, there no one can bully her, tease her, or drive her crazy. A suicidal theme in this story is a main cause of teens dying today. Ten’s today feel to get rid of a temporary pain is to solve with a permanent solution. Cruelty, devastation, and suspense is what bothered Hannah, and Just like Hannah Baker, plenty of other teens today. So are these words and other people really worth taking your life? Teens are attributed to suicide from some type of form of mental or physical buses.

Young teens in today’s society feel that they are being neglected which makes them feel worthless to themselves and others. Teenagers feel that they are worthless if they can’t fit into certain social classes, follow popular media, newest fashions, or just simply become popular. So being worthless is their fit for punishment, their only true escape to get away from all this is to take their own life. Teenagers feel that everything voiced in their past will be their failures in the future or the reasons for their unaccomplished goals.

Ups and downs are Just apart of life, however though some “down” periods last longer then others. Depression in teens is a big cause in suicide; depression is caused from stress or hormonal change. Depression caused in teens is caused from losing family or friends, lack in extracurricular activities, low self-esteem for example caused by bullying about their clothes, religion, intelligence, social class, also ethnicity. Teenage depression has to do with life changes, similarly known as adjustment disorder. All those changes can in fact make a teenager feel hopeless, which seems to be a never ending feeling.

Changes in emotions are a massive destruction in a teenager’s life. When you are a teenager you are trying to find yourself in this huge place we called the world. Being depressed as a teen is a major destruction in their lives. It can cause them to have lower self-esteem, not being as confident as others, and getting their hopes up. To emphasize on this point, teens will not be as talkative, share this sad/gloomy vibe, bored or overwhelmed, have serve anger outbreaks, also irritability. Teens can also appear to be more anxious or even worried. Is it possible to even spot these changes? Yes it is.

For instance they would become more impulsive, rebellious, become more in trouble with the law, running away or threatening to run away, sleeping less or even eating more. Every year, thousands of young adults die in the United States. Not by cancer, car accidents, or diseases, but by their mom hand. All these people make that one choice to take their own life. Some of these teens experience strong feelings of stress, confusion, self-doubt, or even pressure to succeed more then a parent, sibling, or even a close friend. Teenagers need that person to talk to and some adults are not willing to.

Some adults feel that they are always right and everything has to go their safety, just someone to listen. Not argue, but talk. Young adults feel so droned out sometimes by adults since adult have to be that superior one all the time, which is not true. Growing up in today’s society us teens need our adults the most to rely on through this harsh generation with so many things changing so fast that we Just can not simply control and that’s what adults think we can do. This book really puts some teens in check Just by them realizing that their words do hurt. Their words can cause pain. Their words can cause death.

Whether any of us is individually happy or not about the outcome of the election, we can all agree that this election did not model responsible civic behavior, either online or off.

Instead, we lived through a vicious campaign season that sharply divided our nation. We witnessed one presidential candidate engage in a horrible “Twitter war” and, in the last days before the vote, negative campaigning by the other. Then, suddenly it was over: President-elect Trump stated in his victory speech that, “Now it’s time for us to come together as one united people.” And, in her concession remarks, Secretary Hillary Clinton said that, “Fighting for what is right is worth it.”

Today, post-election, most of us want to embrace those values. But, as parents, we have something else far more important to do first: We have to reassure our children. How do we do that?

Reassure them that they are safe

When speaking to kids of any age about the election, the most important thing is to assure them that regardless of who was elected, they are safe.

Young children and adolescents worry about their safety when any big change occurs, which is why this is the most important thing we can address. Remember that, as children, they have not yet experienced repeated political election cycles and so cannot draw on an understanding of our nation’s peaceful transitions of power. To adults, uncertainty is normal; to children, it is not.

So, explain to your kids that they are protected by our political system of checks and balances – be sure to define what that means – which keeps any one person or group from “controlling” the country. When doing this, maintain a reassuring calm: Whether you are acting in your role as an entrepreneur or a parent, your children will pick up on your moods and demeanor.

Parents’ moods can actually scare children. So, be mindful what subtle messages you are sharing. Emotions are natural, and it’s fine to let children see that at one time or another, you are angry, frustrated or worried. But also show them that you can sort out those feelings and move on. And when you explain these things, remember that, when it comes to kids, keeping things simple is best.

Address the bullying and racism we’ve seen in this election.

Donald Trump’s bullying, name-calling and racist statements during the campaign need to be addressed. It’s quite logical in this context that some children may be confused. “How can a man that is mean to people be our president?” they may be asking.

Parents need to emphasize that such unacceptable behavior is never okay, but that sometimes politicians act like this during the election season.

Now that Trump is going to be president, his job will be to bring everyone together. Unity is very important, so tell your kids that both Donald Trump and Secretary Clinton spoke graciously to each other following the vote, as did President Obama to Trump.

Those actions, however, while commendable, do not excuse Trump’s headline-making statements – you know the ones.

Talk to your children about how hurtful personal and racial comments can be. Use this as a teaching moment. Using actual examples is much more effective in getting across any message regarding bullying or bigotry. Emphasize that regardless of what other people do, you expect your children to always treat others respectfully.

Also focus on the positive aspects of the election, the big picture: There are winners and losers, you might say; and what do you do if you lose? Clinton’s concession speech was an excellent example of losing gracefully. She asked people to give the winner a chance, and she spoke about the important nature of the “fight.”

As an entrepreneur, you too can teach your children that if you believe in something, then fight for it. Work hard to pursue your goals and don’t let others deter you. Get involved, so you can make an impact.

As a parent, look for the positive takeaways in this time of certainty and confusion. Give your kids the hope and encouragement to see the positive.

Teenager’s Frustrations -Stress From studying -Peer Pressure -Cyber Bullying As competition in the career world increases, the pressure to do well in studies and be a straight-A student also increases. As such, nowadays many students who actually want to be a step higher than the rest are putting too much pressure on themselves as to Juggle with many extra curricular activities and extra subjects on top of the usual 9 that students take.

With the burden of doing well in all these objects, students get overworked and a few cases like these actually end up in suicide. Such stress from studying are one of the frustrations teenagers face. Peer pressure might be a common term to many of us but this is a huge problem amongst students in school. Peer pressure can be either good or bad in many ways. One benefit of peer pressure would be when a student is motivated through peer pressure to do as well as his friends are doing thus being helpful to his/her academics.

Another would be when a student mingles with the wrong company such as smokers and thus peer pressure without mind control would actually motivate him to smoke which is absolutely not beneficial to him in anyway. Thus, peer pressure is a big challenge teenagers around the world face. In the 21 -SST century where technology makes the world go round, lies technology negative points. One of such negative points would be cyber bullying which is commonly seen in social networking sites such as Backbone, Twitter and

Namespace. These cases of cyber bullying usually come in forms of threats to the person which might embarrass or depress the victim by any sort. Thus, not being able to take the embarrassment, many have died. One of such cases would be the cyber bullying of Megan Meier which resulted in her hanging herself 3 weeks before her 14th birthday. In the summer we got a writing assignment. For this assignment we had to read the book The Short Bus and write a paper about it. Later on after school had started and time had passed the author of the book, Jonathan Mooney came in and had a presentation with us. Now I will be writing about the many different implications, both positive and negative, of being labeled different in our society. Also, I will describe and justify my ethical response to the use of words as weapons against others.

Being labeled in our society is not necessarily a bad thing, it could be good. A good thing that comes from this is it helps you understand if someone is mentally handicapped. For an example, if someone has a mental handicap they could be considered “slow” and that is a nicer thing to say than “retarded” so to speak. Also, another reason this would be good is because in many schools special services are offered to those who are “different”. Tutoring, extended times on tests, alternative courses, and even a dedicated classroom can all be offered.

But, in order to be qualified for those offerings, you would have to have the label of being mentally handicapped. My thought on this would be that many people that have mental handicaps already know that they are the way they are. They also usually accept the fact that they have a disability that many others do not have. On the other hand, there are unfortunately some bad things in this. Labels can be a very hurtful thing to a lot of individuals. Labels can add to prejudice and discriminations.

They could also prevent or discourage you from getting to know someone. Being called gay, retard, or even an idiot are all forms of discrimination. If someone is homosexual or mentally handicapped they can most definitely not help it, it was the way they were born. I’m sure that most people that have these “problems” so to speak already feel like an outcast and giving people labels just makes the situation a lot worse and more painful. Also, this could very possibly make you not want to get to know someone.

If all of your friends are giving a certain someone labels and making fun of them, there is a very good chance you would be discouraged in getting to know this person. That is not fair at all to the person getting the label or the person that would want to get to know someone. Another thing, when you are diagnosed with a handicap the handicap is not permanent. Therefore, you could eventually lose the handicap and still be considered the label in school and still have the special classes and extensions and such.

On the other hand, if you never had any handicap before and you develop one sometime in the future, you would not be able to have special tutoring, extended time on tests, alternative courses, and a dedicated classroom, etc… until you were diagnosed with the mental handicap that you could very possibly have obtained in the future. The second part of this essay I will give my ethical response on using words as weapons against others. I do not know where name-calling, labels, or being “different” originated from, but I despise it greatly.

I think name-calling, labels, and all forms of using words to hurt others are very unacceptable. All this does is hurt someone; it does not help the person who is saying the words, at all. A lot of the words people use to hurt others do not even make much sense. For an example when someone says someone is ghetto it that someone or something is trailer trash. No one really knows where this came from and it really does not make sense at all yet, people still use it to hurt others. Using words to hurt people can become a pretty big deal.

Recently, a handful of homosexual students committed suicide due to the bullying by others. According to ABC News Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge Tuesday, days after his roommate allegedly posted video on the Internet of him having sex with another man. The recent eruption of gay teen suicides has been across the country, from the East Coast to Indiana, Texas to California, where 13-year-old Seth Walsh, who recently hanged himself, was memorialized Friday night This could happen to anyone at any time if the verbal bullying does not come to a stop.

In this paper, I wrote about the many different implications, both positive and negative, of being labeled different in our society. Also, I described and justified my ethical response to the use of words as weapons against others. I think I gave my opinion pretty clearly. I also gave an example of what bullying others verbally could to do someone, thanks to ABC News.
