Career Plan

I am Moh’d A. Obeidat. I have two undergraduate degrees: BA in Accounting and BS in Nursing. I have served as an Accounting Major at Jordan University of Science and Technology where I used my training in Accountancy. I also worked as a Registered Nurse for four years. My extensive experiences in these two fields led me to pursue my MS in Technology Management with Minor in IT and Control at Illinois. This is because technology is very much needed in today’s practice of nursing and accountancy.

With the proficiency in IT, I will be able to integrate nursing, accountancy and IT to make the delivery of these services more efficient and effective for the benefit of patients and of those who deliver these services. At first glance, these pursuits may be totally unrelated. Yet, they are not. Accounting and nursing are integrated. After all, nursing is backed by finance and capital. I am committed to achieving my career goals: 1) Develop and integrate my knowledge and skills further so as to provide excellent service to my employer in particular and to the nation in general.

2) Provide excellent accounting services to my employer while using principles from my other training. 3) Become an excellent faculty and researcher at the Jordan University that sent me to pursue Masters degree and PhD. 4) Establish myself as an expert in IT and Control in Jordan and become a sought after speaker and strategist in IT applications as they are used in Accountancy and Nursing. My background in these two fields will certainly come handy as I solve IT problems and situations in these areas.

5) Help develop the IT industry in Jordan and enable young people and other interested students in preparing themselves for IT practice in their respective fields. IIT Stuart education will help me achieve these goals. The school has proven to be a center of excellence in IT and its students go through rigid training and prepare projects that could enable them to become adept in their chosen fields of study. The school could also help me improve my skills in IT and Control. There are two things that I consider my achievements.

One is that I proposed and assisted the changes of a semi-automated financial system into a better and more modern one by using the Oracle platform. In addition to that, I also helped develop a payment notification system that helped employees view allowances and other payments electronically. In my view, these are considerable achievements. Yet, with the help of IIT Stuart Education, I can even surpass these achievements and draw closer to the goals I have established for myself.

I do have the necessary research skills and study habits that could help me survive and excel at IIT Stuart. With these skills and habits, I know that I can learn all the things that I need so that when I go back to Jordan, I will be able to apply all of these new knowledge for the improvement of the university I am connected with and the IT industry and practice in my country. My work culture results showed that I am well resourced, high powered, and teamwork centered. I noticed that these results were parallel with my interest profiler and competencies results. I was shocked by being considered as high powered. I have never really been a person who wants a lot of responsibility. I have been a lead person on a past Job experience. I had the opportunity to be the supervisor but I didn’t apply for it due to fear of failure.

I do on the other hand agree with the fact of high salaries, career advancement, and career development. It was revealed to me that some of my better strengths are adhering to values and coping with pressure. It was not hard for me to believe the part about adhering to my values. That is something I do believe in along with ethics. But I didn’t think that coping with pressure would come out as a strength. I guess coping with pressure became a strength for me because I try my hardest to let something’s go and not let people now that it may have bothered me.

Within the teamwork centered portion of the work culture results, It showed that I work in a close knit team, have lots of Interdependence, and that I am friendly and supportive of colleagues. I agree with this whole heartedly. I try to be an overall helpful person. Anyone who knows me knows that I am all for the team, if there Is positivist involved. Within the well-resourced section it stated that I like safe places to work, well-designed and comfortable places to work.

As for the career plan I was able to see different positions that may suite me according to the results. Some of the careers I never would imagine doing then on the other hand there are some that I would do. These things include being a lawyer, Judge, librarian, curator, archivists, material recording, and scheduling, dispatching and distributing workers. Now some of these careers I did all In one Job title when I was a Lead Phlebotomy’s at a hospital I once worked at.

Completing the Reasoning Aptitude Survey my profile shows that I could work well in careers where success comes from applying practical skills and where thinking is used mostly to solve practical problems. It also states that I am likely to be attracted to very practical jobs and careers. There are two tabs, Strengths and Opportunities for the results of the Reasoning Aptitude Survey. The first tab Strengths has five bars and out of five bars I received three for each of the six categories.

The six category results show I focus on customer needs and satisfaction, sets high standards for both quality and quantity, works in an orderly way, and achieves project goals. I show an interest in new experiences, I am punctual, follows instruction, safety instructions and requirements of their role, adapts to changing circumstances, and I adapt interpersonal style to suit different people or situations. The next tab is opportunities and there are also 5 bars for score and six categories, on opportunities I received one bar out five and I am unable to get the results to these categories.

My thinking style can help influence my approach to arguments by being more in tune with the different ways people understand and learn things and how I approach these methods of understanding. Consider how to best respond to others whether it is information for a meeting or another co worker and evaluate how each person will receive the information. By learning how to approach others and understand how each person learns will allow me to be able to communicate persuasively with others and build a rapport with others.
