International Development Personal Statement

Table of contents

A degree In International studies will Improve my understanding of the impact of education, health, human rights, the environment, economics, conflict, and other fields on development as well as the Impact of under development on those fields. In Dalton, the multi-adolescently nature of the subject will enable me to explore options for later speculation. My Interest In International development has arisen out of my experiences as a child when I was fortunate to spend extended periods of time In Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

In Thailand and Cambodia I became aware of the plight of refugees and displaced populations. In Vietnam I learnt about the effects of war on the population and the continuing effect of Agent Orange. I also became aware of the difficulties faced by ethnic minorities who don’t speak the national language and don’t have the same rights as the majority of citizens. From my experiences in South East Asia I can see that although we live in a globalizes world, the benefits of globalization are not spread equally between countries or within countries.

Studying International Development will help me better understand why some countries have become developed, some are in the process of developing and some have not developed at all. I would like to understand the satirical forces like colonization, the impact of political systems like socialism and capitalism and the politics of aid such as why some countries receive help while others do not. In addition to understanding the causes of poverty and inequality, I want to understand how to change things for the better.

I would like to learn about sustainable ways of lifting people out of poverty and ensuring their basic human rights. I would also like to understand how to ensure that social development doesn’t harm the environment. A special interest that I have is to understand how best to assist people in emergencies like natural disasters and war and how to help them recover in the long term. The B programmer has enabled me to study a range of subjects from the fields of science and the humaneness rather than confining me to one specific field.

I think that this Is excellent preparation for study of a multi- disciplinary course like International Development and topics such as politics, gender, economics, the environment and other global Issues. Although I have found the B programmer challenging, I have appreciated the opportunity It has provided to evolve critical thinking skills and Independent study skills as well as to broaden my outlook on the world in general.

I feel the academic rigor of the B programmer has prepared me well for the challenges of undergraduate study. I am a keen sports seasons. I enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures. I have enjoyed the greater independence given to students at The Henley College compared to the strict learning styles of conventional schools. I now feel ready to take on the challenge of university study and look forward to making the most of the opportunities that the study of a degree in international development will bring.

Admission Personal Statement Essay

Care is supreme to the survival of all life on earth. In the attitude of care, understanding and useful therapy any individual including adults with Parkinsonism and speech defects, children with autism, cerebral palsy and similar speech impairments can survive; they can live to impact the planets in government, politics, economics, arts.

They can be better songwriters than Ludwig van Beethoven, and their records in literature can surpass that of Helen Keller, American author and lecturer who was blind and deaf. Irrespective of the impairments they may be living with, the dedication of  speech pathologists and therapists can be of immense help to this category of people; This is the essence of my intention to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech language pathology Programs in this renowned institution.

Honing my skills as a speech pathologist is by no means an easy task and responsibility. As a person, I can effectively communicate diagnostic test results, diagnoses, and proposed treatment in a manner which is easily understood by friends and families.

This is useful to clients/patients and their families. I understand that the patient’s response to speech therapy may be slow and therefore I am patient and compassionate enough to listen to the patient has need be.  As a speech therapist, the management or therapeutic pattern for each patient is individualised to suit the need of the patient. Irrespective of the origin of the speech deficit, I believe strongly that I can be of immense help.

I believe my upbringing has a significant share in my desire to further develop craft as a speech pathologist. Being a Russian immigrant, I easily can adapt to children who seem to be struggling to adopt their second language in this country. As a child coming to America at a very young age of 12, I saw how my parents also struggled to keep up with the language barriers. But I used this incident to further bolster my desire to be a good speech pathologist.

Besides, seeing the difficulty of my parents, I strove to include in my work as a speech pathologist programs wherein parents would be empowered to be supportive of their children as they work together in speech therapy programs. I’m not a rigid type of teacher; I structure my programs around non-formal means of teaching environments.

I am sensitive to my wards, in the sense that I exert just enough pressure on them to learn without being too forceful. My skills are being put to use as I have been caring for my grandfather who is legally blind for the past 6-7 years although his hearing is fine and speech is fine. Besides, I have become more patient even to the extent of advocating for elderly rights to notice nursing home neglects. I am persuaded that people need care irrespective of their presumed disability.

In my stay in the Big Apple Academy in New York, during my internship and volunteer duties at the institution, I participated in various activities through which I gained more knowledge about my chosen field: I learnt a lot at Big Apple and at First Step Early Intervention also in New York about children who had difficulty in their learning modules at speech therapy.

In my stay at the academy, I learned about “Prompts for Restructuring Oral-Muscular Phonetic Targets” (PROMPTs). I believe that learning must never stop; it must be a constant activity if one wishes to perfect his or her skill; that is the reason for my application to study in this highly-placed institution.

Suffice me so state that it is quite impossible to say that if I do get admitted into your prestigious program, I would be able to create a cure-all for speech deficiencies in all children. On the contrary, children who possess these special conditions are just that, special. They need extra care and love and understanding from us, and, not to be self appreciating, I consider myself to have been blessed with an extra measure of love, compassion and patience.

But if I do invent a cure at all, your program would have an extra measure of credit, since the knowledge I would have gained from your program would have gone a long way in contributing to my discovery!

The facilities in this institution are adequate for effective teaching and productive learning; this is why I have chosen this institution. As a diligent and thorough student, I will be of great asset to the school, with contributions to the body of knowledge through research, to sports through team spirit and to social development by effective relationship skills. In the end, I can say many things about why my application should be considered.

Suffice it to say that I am hardworking, driven and highly motivated in my desire to be accepted into your program. I also am a team player; I work well in an environment where the confluence of ideas will contribute in my learning process as a speech pathologist. I do my work on time, with an extra effort to see to it that the work I will do in the program will be top quality each and every time.

In concluding, I admit my knowledge is limited and still so much to learn. I believe that the program in your honourable institution will further strengthen the bedrock that I have in the field of speech therapy.

I am grateful that this country affords people like me, a Russian Jew, opportunities to better myself without fear of discrimination or recrimination. My dreams may not be to change the world but I can make a difference by an excellent Speech therapist and graduate of your institution’s Master’s program.

Famu Personal Statement

“You don’t have to be a “person of influence” to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they’ve taught me. ” – Scott Adams. I believe that the one person that has the most influence in shaping my life is my grandmother. She has taught me how to be independent and courageous. Many people say that I am a lot like my grandmother because she and I both have very similar personalities and characteristics.

By spending majority of my time with my grandmother, I have realized that she is very influential to my life. Mrs. Rubena Rose-Anderson was born in Palmers Cross, Clarendon, Jamaica to a poverty-stricken family. Because she was one of 11 children, my grandmother was forced to grow up at an early age. At the age of 16, her father became ill with cancer and her mother passed away a year later. She then was seen as the mother figure of her younger siblings. After she married my grandfather, Silburn Anderson, in 1967 they then had 3 children.

In 1979, she made an incredible decision by leaving her three children and husband behind in order to receive better opportunities here in America. Once she had a steady job and enough money, she was reunited with her husband and children in 1981. I admire my grandmother greatly and she has influenced me making me a very determined person. This sacrifice taught me that sometimes in life we as people have to make very challenging choices in order to receive the best long term results.

Growing up, she always reminded me to think for the future and not just in the now. She has also taught me to become independent. By being forced to be a mother figure at the young age of 17, she had to learn how to everything on her own, raise 10 children, and take care of her ill father. This is the reason why I always try my hardest to get the best out of life. I feel that I should always take advantage of every great opportunity. If my grandmother could accomplish so much throughout her life then I should be able to do the same if not more.

My Motivation To Continue Of Education

My family had the good fortune to reside in the US from the 1970’s, when my parents migrated from Armenia. They were unable to attend college, as they had to work very hard, in order to support the family. This shortcoming in their life made them stress the importance of education at every opportunity. In this manner, I came to realize the value of education from a very young age.

In school my performance was exemplary. I have always been of the firm conviction that a good education is of great significance in life. Success in life depends on a number of factors and education is one of the most important of these. I am well known amongst my acquaintances, for my competence in interacting with others and getting things done. I am extremely proficient in communicating with others.

My anchor and strength in life constitute and stem from religion. My family members are deeply religious and this has had a beneficial effect on me. Prior to embarking on any task, I make it a point to say a short prayer to the Lord, in order to seek His blessings.

The vicissitudes faced by us have served to buttress our faith in the Lord. Faith can move mountains and this age old adage has proved true, time and again in our lives. In addition to the exhortations at home, the school I attended was an Armenian school, which laid special emphasis on religion and morality in all aspects of one’s life.

These two founts of virtue ensured that I became deeply religious.

In addition, to my being gregarious, I have also entertained dreams of becoming a businessman. This was in part due to my cousins, who are into business. I find this activity fascinating and worthy. In this field it is possible to meet people of different ethnic backgrounds and religious denominations.

One of my objectives in this context is to become an investment banker. The rapid pace of globalization has veritably shrunk the globe and this makes it possible to interact with people from other countries and economic regions.

The Pepperdine College was inaugurated in 1937 by its founder George Pepperdine. He was a business magnate who believed in the Christian way of life. His goal in commencing this educational institution was to ensure that students were never distanced from the tenets of Christianity. This tradition has always been upheld.

Name and describe the creative work (book, film, work of art, etc.) That has most influenced you and explain its influence (the writer could choose a book thats known and talk about it and make up something).

The Book that impressed me the most is undoubtedly, the Holy Bible. It is replete with parables that direct us to tread the straight and narrow path of righteousness.

Under no circumstances, can a person forsake morality. For example, Job despite his afflictions, refused to comply with the advice of his near and dear ones, who wanted him to curse God and die. He was rewarded with the benevolence of the Lord for his faith. In my life there have been numerous occasions, wherein I had to countenance extremely distressing situations.

I relied on prayer and did not stray from morality, with the result that I managed to overcome these tribulations. A few quiet moments devoted to the study of the Holy Book and the unswerving adherence to the precepts contained therein, ensure a joyous, calm and enriched life.

Seaver college, a christian institution dedicated to the highest standards of academic excellence, presents its students with a unique atmosphere in which students are encouraged to explore faith as well as scholarship.

This is reflected in pepperdines affirmation statement, which states, `truth has nothing to fear from investigation.` please respond to this statement in terms of your own spiritual commitment, describing the ways in which you might explore faith and investigate truth during your time at pepperdine.

The Seaver College constitutes an important component of the Pepperdine University. In conformity with the vision of George Pepperdine, students are taught the latest developments in their field of study, especially in the context of Globalization. Special emphasis is placed on imparting training in the latest scientific and communication techniques.

The booming business environments of Asia and the EU, which have taken the world by storm, due to their extraordinary progress, are addressed adequately. Moreover, Pepperdine had stated that truth never avoided investigation.

Truth cannot be destroyed and even if a multitude of lies are employed to quell it, it will emerge unharmed in the end. This is my guiding principle in life and I am very much exhilarated that the Seaver College actively practices it. No human activity, whether it is a business venture or a political analysis, can afford to ignore this all important maxim.

It has been said that `the ends always justify the means,` implying that a positive result in a given situation should be achieved at any cost. Drawing upon your knowledge of historical and contemporary events, your analysis of any literary works you have read, and the experiences of your own life, please support or reject this statement.

The underlying objective of the Pepperdine University is to ensure that there is no dilution of moral standards. Morality and ethics are given preeminence.

The idea imparted to students is that it is possible to function as a highly successful professional, while adhering to the highest of moral standards. This is entirely in conformity with my beliefs. The end must always justify the means. Therefore, I am extremely keen to participate in the undergraduate program of this school.

Those afflicted with moral turpitude proclaim that the end justifies the means. Some examples are Hitler of Germany, the rulers of the erstwhile USSR, the Islamic Terrorists and their ilk. A telling example of a person, who demanded that morality had to be adhered to all costs, was Mahatma Gandhi.

Despite the terrible atrocities committed by the British, while ruling over India, he never advocated the use of immoral, violent or unfair means to obtain freedom. On one occasion, the British massacred a large number of unarmed and non – violent women and children in Jallianwala Bagh, nevertheless, Gandhi only condemned the moral depravity of the British and left it at that.

He did not advocate any retaliatory measures. Finally, his non – violent, ethical and moral movement resulted in freedom for India. There are many such examples the world over. The cutting of corners, indulging in unfair means and the adoption of illegal measures, though remunerative in the short term is bound to result in failure in the long run. I have always believed that the end must justify the means. No goal or objective is worth that much that one can forsake morality or righteousness for its sake.

Since, the Pepperdine University subscribes to such thinking; I would consider myself extremely fortunate, if provided with an opportunity to obtain meaningful education from it. Education without morality is like a beautiful woman bereft of virtue.

Personal statement for nursing

As the first child growing up in a Chinese family In a predominantly minority Oakland community, I watched my grandfather take countless prescribed medications for Illnesses from cancer and thyroid Issues, and being Diabetic. Noticing the medicine cabinet full of drugs made me question what exactly went on in my grandfather’s body when he took these daily medications. I attended most my grandfather’s health care appointments to translate because of his limited English or even none.

They needed my interpretation to understand the information about each drug received for my grandfather. Unable to elaborate on the physiological effects of particular drugs, however, my explanations were limited to basic side effects and indications: drowsiness or pain relief. Or the reasoning to why the medical procedure is being done to get certain tests results. As an intermediary in my grandfather’s health situation, I gained not only an acute awareness of the patient’s experience in medical interactions but also an appreciation for the nurse’s crucial role.

Translating for my grandfather, I was vitiated by the passionate nurse’s knowledge of skills and explanation of procedures and education, her eagerness to consult with the patient to meet his needs. Beyond patient interactions, I gained insight into nurses’ role in communicating with doctors about what the patient want or needs. I began to understand the crucial role of communication in promoting patients’ appropriate healing process.

My determination to pursue a career In Nursing remains strong, As a volunteer at Asia Healthcare Center In Oakland, I regularly Interact with low-income minority tenets experiencing challenges similar to my grandfather’s: limited education, financial need, language barriers. I play an important role in addressing patients’ clinical needs through direct interactions with them: I build rapport with patients, enabling them to trust the nurses and discuss personal issues.

The nurse plays a crucial role In determining whether a patient Is able to follow through with a prescribed treatment through careful consideration of an Individuals personal circumstances and the feasibility of treatment. Lingering at Aslant Healthcare provides me fuller appreciation for the compassionate, professional communication required for effectiveness as a nurse. My commitment to developing communication skills and my passion for being a nurse has evolved through my involvement in the Oakland community, which often lacks clinical education.

Working with the East Bay Asian Youth Community, an after- school program serving underprivileged students, strengthened my Interest In working closely with youth. I maintained a classroom of 10-15 teenage students, providing support in and outside of the classroom. Besides teaching basic math, I provided weekly lessons about drugs such as Ethylene to help the students understand their physiological effects. Despite the challenge of teaching these students, I realized the value of my contribution when a high school student In my class said, “l really appreciate your lesson about drugs.

If not for you, I could not This experience gratified me and strengthened my resolve to pursue Nursing. As a Nurse, I desire to continue my development as a skilled, culturally competent, compassionate professional. I place a high priority on understanding the effect of patients’ personal circumstances on their ability to follow a prescribed treatment and facilitating their understanding the necessity of such treatments. In the long term, as role model to my family and as leader to the community, I want to help minorities, especially Asian immigrants, by educating them and providing effective, appropriate service to meet their needs.

Marketing and Electronic Commerce from the University of New Haven in Connecticut, I am motivated to explore more knowledge and enhance my skills in the particular field. Aside from my educational attainment, I was motivated to take up my MBA program in Old Dominion University. My choice of the school was driven by the school’s dedication in providing an international dimension of business and building relationship between foreign students and faculty members.

The idea of comprehensive and expanded program appears to be suitable for my interest, desire, and needs in surpassing my dreams. Furthermore, the school’s commitment in developing students from foreign institutions has empowered me to pursue m studies despite the challenges of diversity. I understand that MBA program in International Business and Finance demands a superior knowledge and exemplary experiences in related fields. However, I am confident that my educational and employment backgrounds are enough to meet the lofty requirements of the university.

Notably, during my undergraduate study, I earned As and Bs in my major courses. In addition, I had been an active student in several academic organizations which was also my path in improving my communication and leadership skills. Furthermore, in school, I have understood and applied various complex techniques with regard to the application of Finance and International Business. Through my education, I have been mentally and professional prepared to take a higher degree that is related to business and marketing.

As to my experiences, I had been employed in the United Matbouli Group, the official Samsung Electronics distributor for Saudi Arabia, from December 2004 to May 2008. During my employment in the said company, I had been entrusted with duties and responsibilities which require a wider understanding and an exceptional understanding in the field of marketing and business. My hard works and determination has established my reputation as a diligent, responsible, sensitive and responsive team member among my fellow employees and the management.

Eventually, I had been assigned to a new project with an expanded responsibility. Such project involves determining and devising best and effective ways of introducing new products into the market and formulating details in dealing with customers, sub-dealers, media channels, and the community as a whole. My duty also includes stock control and stock distribution. Specifically, I am tasked to collect, collate, and evaluate data leading to the production of data that could predict and forecast sales.

This has also motivated me to learn English language, aside from Arabic, which is useful in global communication. Moreover, I find it challenging to work in a globally exposed field of business. At the same time, I realized that it would be more effective and rewarding to contribute my skills and knowledge in a broad and extensive environment. By virtue of these, I am adamant in pursuing my MBA in International Business and Finance as my very path in achieving and even surpassing my dreams.
