Introduction Nowadays, internet cafe is really in demand because of the fast changing technology that the people embraced. It continues to play a larger role in all aspects of life, people and especially student’s needs to have knowledge to navigate the genealogical world with skill and knowing their responsibilities.

An internet cafe is an area that provides internet access to the public that has time rate. Internet cafe is known as one method of communication, we use it for reading news headlines, searching, play , chatting with family and friends, watching, and etc,. It is recorded that the world’s first Internet cafe belongs to Cafe Siberia which opened in London, England in September 1, 1994. It was founded by Eva Papoose who got the business idea of serving coffee to customers who are surfing the web while tinting at a coffee shop near the City University of London where she was taking her PHD degree.

She started Cafe Siberia with six HP computers which are connected to the Internet through dial-up modems that were able to transfer rate of 9. 6 kilobits of data per second. The proposed business plan named “HIGH FIVE INTERNET CAFE” since the business primary role is to provide high quality service and the implementing unit is composed of five members. Rationale Providing internet cafe is a project we come up to suffice the demand of computer shop in different places has. With the heave of population every year, less computer shop is not sufficient for the future demands of community.

This project is very additional and appropriate to be used. It is also comprises of stored different application and software that suitable to the people and especially for student needed. This place will also fully air conditioned and very secure to maintain good service and qualities of the computers. Project Description The computer units in the Internet cafe are consists of different applications and software like Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Power Point, Microsoft Office Excel, and etc. Every unit has installed mainly needed software, applications and games. We proposed this project for the following reasons: To provide high quality and high standard computers for the future demands of customers. For customers’ needs especially for the students. ENG 120 I03FY February 23, 2010 Is the internet bad for us ? In the old days, a paper research used to take up to several days, when only libraries and encyclopedias had the right and trustful information. A visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art involved finding the address first, and that took as well quite some time. In our days all this information is just a click away. The Internet, with the help of web pages, such as Google Search and Google Maps, are the solution to every question one may ask. The long days of search have ended, but it doesn’t mean it is a favorable or beneficial thing for each person.

Scientists and professors of well known universities have discovered that this trouble free, straightforward and rapid method has determined not only the brains to delay the thinking process, but also changed people’s behavior in their lives in a negative way. One neuroscientist, Dr. Gary Small conducted a study where he examined the impact of the Internet on a young persons brain. This study consisted of reading a MRI while the person was surfing on the Internet, and another one while it was reading a book.

Then, the results where very surprising: the MRI showed more brain activity in the frontal part, the decision part of the brain, when the person was surfing the Internet. The study reached lots of newspapers, and every person believed that Google is making them smarter. However, after a short period of time, Dr. Small reviewed the results and stated: “On a brain scan big doesn’t mean it is better…It’s exactly as in a golf game, you want to keep your score lower”. One can easily see that this brain activity is without doubt detrimental to all of us and surfing the Internet only decreases our process of thinking, instead of increasing it.

Surfing on the Internet has become a daily routine, by checking the e-mail, researching on some interesting subjects and that takes probably an hour per day, which is ordinary in our days. Still, there are millions of young students that stay an average of fifty hours a week on the Internet and that just doesn’t seem something normal. All this time spent on the Internet has affected their thinking development. A pathologist of the University of Michigan Medical School states that: “ I can’t read “War and Peace “ anymore, I’ve lost the ability to do that. Even a blog post on more than three or four paragraphs is too much to absorb. I skim it. This is actually a frightening reality that applies to myself as well. Not only I can’t focus on my daily readings for my biology class, but also if I start reading a book, after only twenty minutes I loose my concentration. This inability to make “rich mental connections” and just to think, has transformed our real intelligence into an artificial intelligence, thus the Internet has a direct participation towards our brain development. One can say that the Internet has changed our lives for the better, since World Wide Web possesses information about almost everything. However, not all the information on the Internet is accurate.

There are several web sites where the information is not meticulously verified, therefore one can obtain data and facts that are untrue, even misleading. The best example is Wikipedia, a website where anyone can put any information on this page without any previous examination. Countless students use this web site to research for projects, without knowing the danger of misleading information. Communication in our lives is a tremendous vital thing. Indeed, human beings are born to communicate with each other no matter what kind of lives they decide to live. Communicating with other people allows us to learn about ourselves as human creatures.

It helps us to understand our way of behaving, of thinking in different situations/places. However, the Internet has a considerable effect on our daily communication with out friends, family and even loved ones. The casual coffee in a modern cafe is replaced by staying on Yahoo Messenger talking for hours in front of the computer, and a discussion face to face has become a thing of the past, “thanks” to Second Life, a program where you could meet virtually at a restaurant, cafe or even in a park. The increased access and heavy reliance onto computer games and the Internet for many people today have led to many social problems.

Obsessive computer use leads to addiction, which can lead to financial problems, broken relationships, physical and emotional problems. An example of such addiction affected a Korean family. Their son was sent in a camp for he was playing all the time computer games. This camp helped him to stay away from a computer for two weeks, so that he could concentrate on regular activities. The Internet has extended its power at the point that Google and Microsoft are in the process of creating an online international library, extinguishing books.

This idea would only cause the lost of our culture and history, because books are an important factor in the achievement of today’s knowledge. The vinegar that was used in the old days to sanitize the scrolls from the deadly diseases, was a crucial tool towards finding the location from where they were sent. Studying their chemical components scientists discovered even details of their way of living. In conclusion, technology in all of its forms – social networks, the Web, online gaming – is a net loss for today’s young people. This means that a computer should be free from dullness and lack of concentration.

It can continuously work for hours without creating any error human beings in doing regular types of jobs, which requires great accuracy. Computer can perform the number of calculation with exactly the same accuracy and speed as the first one. 5. Versatility: Versatility is a most important characteristic which a good computer should have hence the capacity to perform completely different type of work. For example one may use a computer to prepare payroll slips where there is a lot of veracity, may be used for inventory management or to prepare electric bills.

A good computer should therefore be capable of performing almost any task, if the task can be reduced to series of logical steps. 6. Automation: Good Computers should be automatic electronic machines however; computer being machines can not start themselves without human interventions. SOLUTION Network information systems link pockets of highly specialized data to provide efficient access. These systems have solved a number of problems in organizations in the following ways; 1. Provided fast access to databases of personnel information, reference reading, best practices and on-the-job training, and are easily customizable to meet an organization’s needs. Communication strategies are set of actions designed to persuade a group of people to perform certain activities or to follow certain directions. In real life, communication could be both, a very easy task or a very difficult one, depending on the communicators and the popel they are trying to communicate with. In business or social organizations however, where people are expected to achieve a certain target using limited time and resources, the task of communicating with people becomes more demanding. In this paper, I am making a short case example of how a communication strategy could be implemented in a complex multinational organization, in order to achieve certain goals. The different business model brought by the company made Dell one of the most trusted PC producers in the world today. The company model is selling PC directly to customers and designing the computers to match customers’ needs and preferences, therefore, they will be avoided from buying features that they do not need. Currently however, Dell is a company employing more than 80,000 people worldwide (Mahoney, 1999). It is listed as one of the Top 20 list of the most admired companies in the United States according to Fortune magazine.

In order to maintain such a reputation and prevent Dell’s business model from becoming ‘rusty’ and stagnant, the company need to have a powerful communication strategy that will pass leaders’ initiatives to every member of the organizations worldwide. In order to design such a communication strategy, we need to observe Dell’s internal business environment.

3.1. Corporate Culture

Several corporate behavior analysts believed that Dell has quite a different culture compare to other high-tech companies. It is said that while other companies are striving to cut costs and re-deigning their systems to be more cost-effective, Dell is naturally lean, fast and entrepreneurial. Dell has no need to go through major downsizing acts in order to survive the changing business environment because the company already has the attributes of a highly efficient company. The company seems to have minimum cultural issues within their structures because they are naturally a performance-driven, cost driven company that is built on speed and low on office politics (Locker, 1999).

Corporate culture is expressed through the culture of Dell’s owner. Michael Dell has a quality of informality which is seldom discovered in leader of such a caliber. Analysts stated that even after two decades, Dell managed to retain its informality and maintain the energy to perform its actions like a start-up company. This is in line with Dell’s business model, which is to deliver a cost effective technological solution for its customers. With such a flat hierarchy it would take lees time and less complications in giving customers what they really need (O’brien, 2001).

Nevertheless, in order to deliver satisfying results to customers, Dell must cooperate closely with various external partners and bring them along with changes that are made. The company has a global production network that ps through the United States, Asia and Europe. This will made communication an even harder challenge.

3.3. Corporate Life Cycle

Living in the high-tech industry, the company has a high life cycle rate. This is caused by the rapidly changing technology in the modern world, which requires Dell to keep up and to bring the entire organization along. Thus, communication within this business environment must be maintained to remain efficient and effective.

4. Communication Strategy

In theory, Dell’s Structure and culture and corporate structure allows good communication quality of people within the company. Simplicity of corporate structure and the low-politics nature of its culture generated an efficient communication environment. Nevertheless, there are several suggestions that we would like to make in order to improve the quality of Dell’s communication structure.

In theory, there are actually several meetings that needed to be done before a message is delivered from corporate executives to the whole part of the organization. Dell however, needs to avoid such a time consuming system to communicate a message. Dell cannot afford to have such a communication structure because its strategy demands for a swifter communication process that will allow customers to gain benefits over the company’s initiatives and ideas instantly. It is the basic philosophy of Dell’s business model (Freake, 2000).

Therefore, it is important for Dell to take significant advantage of its own technology to deliver information to all members of the organization. A well designed communication system that connects all members of the organization in a single network will allow a swifter distribution of information. Nevertheless, there are some risks that need to be paid attention to. For example, there will be a trade off between having a swift communication and having a two way communication that will allow a better cooperation between members of the organization. Two-way communication allows stronger collaboration between members of an organization because people will usually more committed in something when they played a hand in making the decision. Thus, Dell should generate a technological communication that allows a two-way communication instead of one way communication.

The company could design a message system that allows employees to provide feedback to the executives. On the other hand, Dell could also create access within the system that allow an executive to communicate with subordinates in whatever level for the sake of new ideas and technicalities. The company could also deploy company newsletter that allows people to be acknowledged for their suggestions and accomplishment.

4.2. Repetition of Information

The newsletter mentioned above can also be one of the chances to deliver information to members of the organization. Other opportunities might be through inter-company emails, bulletin boards, speaker announcement, face-to face meetings and superiors’ notification. These methods can all be used to ensure that employees and other members of the corporation can retrieve information repetitively.

5. Conclusion

Developing a communication strategy is not an easy task, but it is necessary to maintain the survival of an organization. In the absence of such strategy, the organization will not move in a unified way, instead its values will be lost in translation between members of the organization. In large companies, there are usually several communication channels designed to help people deliver messages to one another and form a unified understanding of the challenges they face and how to face them. With Dell however, such communication channels should be simplified because of its business model.

Dell has a business model that put front customers preferences by hearing their needs and developing a PC that will address those needs. Thus, it must has an efficient communication channel so that customers will not be burdened by a long wait time in order to get what they paid for. Dell has addressed this need by delegating a significant authority to lower level employees to address the needs of customers. We also suggested that the company developed an online communication system that will allow member of the corporation to exchange information without time delay. Such a real-time communication system will increase customer value even further.

Are People Overly Dependent on Technology? You know you’ve got too much technology in your life when you and your significant other are sitting together on the couch, having a text-message conversation with each other. Who ever imagined that “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” could actually refer to our vocal cords?

Admittedly, it’s a very convenient form of communication and entirely appropriate at times, like during weddings, funerals, and tests. But it’s not just text messaging, it’s the entire technology spectrum that has zombified us, and it only seems to be getting worse. I know a handful of people who can’t get into their cars and onto the road until they’ve synced all their Bluetooth devices with their car’s Bluetooth system, have texted several people to let them know they’ve just left, will be rolling shortly, and will text them when they get there, and checked their multiple email accounts once last time.

And by one last time I mean before they get to the next stop light where they’ll check it again, just in case something important from a rich, retired army general with banking connections in Zimbabwe has shown up. Do any of us really wonder why our auto insurance rates are through the roof, and portable technology can be cited as a prime factor in accident after accident on our highways and byways? Bet you didn’t know that many motorcycle helmets are now equipped with Bluetooth capabilities, for those times when a call just can’t wait until you’ve slowed your bullet bike to 150mph.

By any definition you choose, this is an unnecessary overreach of modern technology. As a society, on the whole, have we truly become too dependent on technology, or does it only seem that way because crotchety old technophobes keep telling us that? Consider your daily routine as insight into the answer. What would your day be like without a computer, without a smart-phone, without 600 channels of cable television, without Facebook and Twitter, and without your Kindle Fire?

Would your entire day be thrown out of kilter if the first thing you didn’t do each morning was check your email on your smartphone before you turned on your laptop to check those same emails? What would a day without Facebook be like for you? How about just an hour? Admittedly, I’m writing this article on my computer for people to read on their computers, which might make me part of the problem, but if I could create a daily “hardcopy” following, I would. It’s a simple fact of the 21st century that we depend on technology for everything, and those who eschew it are somehow called backwards, out of touch, and quite often my parents.

Still, do we require so much technology to function in today’s society, or do we just tell ourselves that in an attempt to continue feeling relevant? Is it really important that my Facebook friends know that I just sat down for dinner at ? I think the impetus for so much of this is fear of not keeping up with the new Joneses, who are frequently teenagers and young adults who couldn’t possibly give you directions to the library because they have no idea what a library is.

How many times have you stood in line, possible for hours and at the expense of your beauty sleep, to get a new smartphone that is slightly better than the smartphone you stood in line for six months ago? This machine had a mechanical computing “mill”(the processor) and used punch cards to store the numbers and processing requirements. Lady Augusta Ada Lovelace was a great supporter of Charles Babbage and she convinced him to use binary systems in his engines. Because she wrote some programs for Babbages’ engines, she is considered the first programmer (citation).

His vision of a massive brass, steam-powered, general-purpose, mechanical computer inspired some of the great minds of the nineteenth century. Almost a century later, Charles’ ideas re-emerged with the development of electro-mechanical calculating machines such as the tabulating machine and devices used for telecommunication. Electro-mechanical machines paved way new and exciting way to communicate such as the telegraph, telephone and the internet. A telegraph is a machine which is used for transmitting messages in the form of electrical impulses which can be converted into data (citation).

A message sent via telegraph is coded in a language called Morse code but the message itself is called a telegram or cablegram. Telegraph machines had to be connected through a series of wires in order to exchange messages. The operator would key a message in the Morse alphabet, and the receiving telegraph machine on the other side would register the message in the form of clicks, different click have different meanings w the messages were decoded. The telegraph was basically limited to receiving and sending one message at a time consequently Bell sought to improve on the telegraph to “fix” this problem. His aim was to be able to transmit multiple messages back and forth across the same line which of course brought us the telephone.

But advancements in communication did not stop there. Later on person’s discovered that these same telephone lines could be used to transmit and share data across devices thus the idea of an inter-connected network (the internet) was introduced. The Internet was the result various persons wanting to share information between computers. A man named Lawrence Roberts of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) connected a Massachusetts computer with a California computer in 1965 over dial-up telephone lines and he discovered hat computer could share information through telephone lines (citation).
