Have you ever wondered about what kind of fuel is the cheapest? With the way people seem to be switching to more electric cars over gas, I wanted to compare the two. I feel, that there has been more technology in electric cars within the last 5 years than there has been in gas cars in the last 10 years. The factors we will need to consider when comparing electric cars to gas cars consist of convenience, cost of electricity/gas, and speed and mileage.

One of the first things to consider is convenience. Is it easier to plug in your car to charge or when you’re running low on gas, in which you will have to stop in at any of the millions of gas stations at every corner? With an electric car, some people have a charger in their garage… talk about convenient. It is easier to charge an electric car because you have to take your car back to your house at the end of the day anyways, rather than having to make one more stop to get gasoline. Electricity does sound good for the environment because it is renewable, but the way that we “renew” it is really bad for the environment. There are many ways to make electricity including; solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, fossil fuel, wave and many others. Out of just those and many others, the only ways to make electricity that is not all too bad is; hydro, solar, wave, and wind, the rest either polutes or harms life, whether it global warming or poisoning wildlife.

Cost is another huge factor when comparing gas to electric cars. When it comes to the amount of “fuel,” electricity for cars is measured in kilowatts, gasoline is measured in gallons, so there is no similarity other than mileage between the two. It is app. $0.25 per kWh to charge an electric car and about $3.75 per gallon for gasoline. Most electric car owners charge their car at home, some charge as soon as they get home and unplug it in the morning. when they drive to work and some set their car to charge at midnight because it is the cheapest time to charge your car. Overall when it comes to batteries, when charging you want to leave it off of the charger as much as possible, meaning that if you leave it on from 6pm until 6am, overtime it will shorten your battery life.

Others rely on public charging stations to fill up their car to save money on electricity which are ultimately batter because it is cheaper and it lengthens battery life. Once your batteries in your electric car have finally “died”, what are you supposed to do with the battery, leave it on the side of the road, burn it, or recycle it?The problem with recycling batteries is they use fossil fuels to burn it which ultimately puts out more pollution. For gas cars, once the gasoline is used to make explosions in the motor, it will eventually come out the exhaust. One way we could use the batteries, is for the event that we have a major power outage. 1 battery in a tesla, weighing 1000 pounds, could power a house for a few months.

Speed and mileage are one of the last key factors to consider before making a decision to go with a gas car or an electric car. Electric cars are know to have more torque, which is the equivalent to acceleration, and gas cars are know to have the faster top speed. Electric cars are also known to have a much shorter range than gas cars, for example; The 2019 Toyota Camry LE has been able to reach app. 663/689 (city/highway) miles on a single fill and the equivalent size of an electric car is; the Tesla Model S, which has a maximum range of 335 miles. Overall the gasoline cars win the battle for mileage and top speed, but when it comes to electric cars, they have the best acceleration (torque).

Electric cars are cheaper and easier to maintain than gas cars, therefore they are the better choice in gas vs. electric. Electric cars are the better option because you do not always have to pay for charging, but when it comes to gasoline, you always have to pay. In my opinion, electric cars are the more convenient and cost efficient choice, but ultimately it would be up to each person to make the decision depending on their lifestyle.

Nuclear energy fills the current energy needs of the world and should be the only type of energy used until a more renewable source is found that is just as efficient, economical and environmentally friendly as nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is in fact very dangerous however, it is not nearly as dangerous as some people fear and the pros far outweigh the cons.

Energy is vital for the advancement of humanity and nuclear energy is the most efficient, plentiful, safe, environmentally friendly and economical form of energy known to man and must be taken advantage of until further developments of renewable energy are made. Nuclear energy is the most efficient form of energy known to man. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the average nuclear reactor can generate 12,400,000,000 kW of energy every hour, that’s 6,200 times the amount of energy generated by the Hoover Dam Power Plant (2,000,000 kWh)! [USE12] If we all switched to nuclear energy, we just might be able to have enough power for ourselves and some left over for third world countries at a fraction of the cost.

Speaking of the cost, did you know that the cost of nuclear energy remained the same since 1999? Even though the cost gas, oil and coal energy has risen and dropped numerous times since 1999, they have never been cheaper than nuclear fuel. This is due to the fact that most of the cost of nuclear energy goes towards production whereas in other energy industries, the fuel is the most expensive part. This means that natural disaster, war, economic depression, international affairs, and availability determine the cost of other energy resources whereas the cost of nuclear energy cannot fluctuate. This also makes nuclear energy the cheapest form of energy.

Nuclear energy is one ninth the costs of oil, one fourth the cost of gas, and two thirds the cost of coal.[Wor11] Interestingly enough, the most appealing part of nuclear power doesn’t quite have anything to do with economics at all. Nuclear energy is the only type of energy that has no negative effects on the environment. That is very important scene the use of other energy sources has created deadly effects on the earth like global warming. The reason that nuclear energy has no negative effects on the environment is because it does not release any carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide or sulfur dioxide into the environment.

These noxious gases have been scientifically proven to be the cause of global warming and many other harmful environmental threats. Other forms of energy release these gases into the environment at alarming levels and must be stopped before the earth is uninhabitable. Nuclear energy is thought to be very dangerous due to the countless dangers of radiation as well as various nuclear disasters and the dropping of the atomic bombs in WWII. These fears have given nuclear energy a pretty unfair representation. It is not near as harmful as people fear because nuclear power plants are filled with various security systems and backup systems which make them virtually foolproof.

There are many more accidents in coal mines and power grids than in nuclear power plants. Nuclear power is the safest, cheapest and most efficient energy source and has many environmental advantages as well.

Particularly in the field of energy, the only cost considered was the cost of production. The detrimental effect of the dirty energy on the environment was not factored in and, until recently, has not been thought of at all. The cost paid for fuel at the pump basically includes two things: production cost and profit margin.

There Is one huge cost that Is not factored In though which Is the money that It costs to support a falling environment. Energy Is probably the most prevalent case of negative externalities there is. The recent events in Japan have shown how expensive these supposedly cheap energies can become. The damage done by the melt down of the nuclear reactor after the earth quake will undoubtedly cost the Japanese billions of dollars to repair. This is only part of the cost though.

The money for medical care will result in large expenditures as well. Neither of these costs is as devastating as the loss of life caused by such accidents though. The death toll and lingering health effects on the inhabitants of the area should also be major factors considered in the cost of “cheap” energy. This Is not the first occurrence either. Coherency and Three Male Island demonstrate how these resources, however many safety regulations they have In place, can still suffer from catastrophic events. The difficulty encountered with this though is short sightedness among the consumer.

They want cheaper prices at the gas pump, and don’t realize that if there is an oil spill that their tax money is going to have to help clean it up, as well as the prices at the pump going up as the market compensates. So the reaction to disasters arguably levels out the cost of the Inexpensive fuels. For some reason it seems that there have been more cataclysmic events in recent years than the past. This cannot exactly be statistically proven but it is easy to infer. With the population expansion, the demand for energy will continue to rise.

And without moving forward on cleaner energies, the inexpensive energy Industry will error the growth of the population. This paired with the possibility of more frequent natural disasters Is not good. The roll of negative externalities will grow and people will realize the implications once it is too late. It is time to start factoring externalities into the cost of energy. This will spur the growth of alternative energies and move towards a safer system. Some argue that hydrogen is very flammable and can explode. Those that argue this are 100% correct but it is not any more flammable than the gasoline in your car right now. C The thermo-physical and chemical properties of straight mesuaferrea oil were determined.

The flash point, kinematic viscosity, and density of the straight mesuaferrea oil were found to be much higher than diesel, though the calorific value was found to be lower. The variation in thermo-physical and chemical properties of various blends of straight mesuaferrea oil and diesel were studied after fraction of biofuel products may be obtained at different temp.
