Established research and development departments and channeled management efforts are the impetus of Absolut’s ability to develop the evolutionary new product with quality and care. Absolut Vodka currently maintains a large customer base with extreme brand loyalty. There is high brand recognition by consumers due to Absolut’s distinctive bottle shape and brand name.

Absolut Pure will fulfill ego needs for upcoming middle-upper class women. Weaknesses: Although Absolut has a loyal consumer base, preexisting organic brands have acquired a portion of the market share that Absolut Pure aims to capture. Another weakness is the lack of patents on the idea and production of organic vodka. Thus, other mass producers can easily duplicate the organic vodka blend at a lower price point, directly competing with the Pure line. In addition, there are limited distribution channels for Absolut in Canada. Absolut Pure can only be sold directly to consumers through government regulated liquor stores.

SWOT: External Analysis

Threats A potential drawback of the Absolut Pure Vodka is the high price. Given current economic volatility, Canadian consumers have become risk-averse with less disposable income for luxury products. A major threat to Absolut Pure Vodka is a change in consumer taste; consumers may believe that organic vodka will not taste as good as regular vodka. This is due to the attitudes attached to organic products. Continued fear from consumers regarding alcohol abuse could also potentially reduce overall sales. In addition, it is essential for Absolut Pure to maintain brand exclusivity.

Absolut must remain positioned in consumer’s minds as an elite product in order to justify premium pricing. Another threat to Absolut Pure vodka is that all production takes place in Sweden. Therefore an increase in tariffs or duties could make importing products unprofitable. Lastly, competition and market saturation is always a prevalent threat. Opportunities The organic movement is a growing trend on the market, and if successful, Absolut could have the opportunity to launch new flavours under the organic product line. With vodka being an extremely popular alcohol choice among

many markets, Absolut will have the opportunity to target new markets, including the substantial gay market. Absolut may be presented with the prospect of penetrating international markets with global expansion of this product. Absolut has the opportunity partner with other organic labels (ex. organic orange juice) to make a signature cocktail, this would reduce the cost of promotions and reach more consumers, ultimately increasing revenues. Analysis As a market catalyst, Absolut will continue to reign over competition and push industry standards by unveiling a new evolutionary product, Absolut Pure Organic vodka.

The knowledge and fulfillment of consumers needs is the key to Absolut’s high brand recognition and loyalty. Absolut Pure will implement interactive marketing techniques, new green initiatives and a unique bottle to successfully launch Absolut Pure vodka. Absolut Pure will aim to satisfy the ego and status needs of generation X, and early generation Y. Using Maslow’s holistic approach to personality, we have recognized that the biogenic and physiological needs of our Canadian target market will be satisfied (Solomon, Polegato & Zaichkowsky, 2011). Therefore, we will focus on pursuing the higher order needs of our consumers.

Fulfilling ego needs is what will drive our target market to purchase premium vodka; consumers will be motivated to select Absolut Pure to attain high status, esteem, prestige, and a reminder that they belong to an exclusive group who can afford luxury products (Solomon et al. , 2011). For the few consumers who have met their ego needs, the motivation to purchase will be driven by self-actualization needs. Consumers who are on a higher level of needs (such as self-actualization) are more inclined to be environmentally conscious (Brooker, 1976). Thus, organic vodka will appeal to this rare group of consumers.

Most individuals spend their entire life trying to fulfill ego needs, never moving to the self-actualization stage. Accordingly, our product will focus primarily on satisfying these ego needs (Solomon et al. , 2011). Absolut Pure will stand as a symbol of social mobility for consumers. We will segment our target market using demographics such as age, gender, income, as well as psychographic attributes. Absolut Pure’s target market consists of women in late Generation X and early Generation Y cohorts. These urban-based consumers will be educated and highly aware of perceived status.

They enjoy social events and follow trends closely. With Generation Y ranging from 18-30 years old, our focus will be on the median age of 25 and older (Semansky, 2007). At this age, majority of our targeted females have completed some form of post secondary education and have transitioned into a career. An increase of income, struggle for new identity, and need for status make them a receptive target for Absolut Pure. Absolut Pure will bridge the gap between their ideal self and real self by fulfilling their status needs (Solomon et al. , 2011). This generation craves products that are novel or prestigious in nature.

Furthermore, with the growing trend towards organic living this generation is attracted to green initiatives (Stephey, 2008). Secondly, Generation X ranges from ages 31 to 47, with our focus being on those 35 and younger (Solomon et al. , 2011). Generation X is motivated to buy products that entertain or interest them (Stephey, 2008). This generation is skeptical and dubious of advertisements (Solomon et al. , 2011). They are very media savvy, yet attracted to unique packaging. Thus, it is essential that Absolut Pure be aesthetically appealing for this generation.

The targeted profile will possess a high disposable income, and will be more willing to spend money on quality products. This increase in income is due to the growing tendency to marry and start families later in life. This is beneficial for our product, which will be priced at roughly 20% more than an average bottle of vodka. Absolut Pure ‘s price mirrors the use of organic materials and consumers inherently interpret high prices as an indicator of quality. Our price is strategically set at $34. 99. Any increases in price that may be necessary will be below consumers JND (Just Noticeable Difference).

JND is the minimum change in stimuli (price) that can be detected. (Solomon et al. , 2011) Once established in the market Absolut Pure will not use any form of price discounting to avoid damaging the exclusive orientation. Although pricing is possible threat to a premium product in a time of economic downturn, Absolut Pure remains an affordable luxury for consumers. Income and spending power are not necessarily requisites in consumer buying behavior (Solomon et al. , 2011). Therefore, it is important to factor in the psychographic and lifestyle characteristics of our target market.

VALS (Values and Lifestyles) segmentation is a useful tool for identifying consumer types, and is based on resources and self-orientation (Plummer, 1974). Using VALS, we have identified our target market to fall under both “Achievers” and “Strivers”. Achievers place a high importance on image, and favor prestigious products (Pearson 1985). Strivers are similar to Achievers but with less resources. Strivers are concerned with the opinion and approval of others (Riche, 1989). They favour products that shadow the purchases of people with greater wealth than them (Pearson, 1985).

Together, Strivers and Achievers will be drawn to purchasing premium vodka to demonstrate success to peers. Absolut Pure will adopt the signature bottle shape and well-established trade dress currently used by the Absolut brand (Aslop, 1984). It will feature the same clean and crisp blue “Futura” font as Absolut’s current bottle. The use of the color blue and familiar print stimulates feelings of trust for the new line. Consumers will be able to identify that Pure is apart of the Absolut brand. This identification will reduce product skepticism that is common with a new product.

The Absolut Pure bottle will differentiate with unique bottle features and colors. The bottle will be designed with a thick inner glass center to create the illusion of an hourglass silhouette. This distinct and novel shape will immediately capture consumer’s attention. In addition, studies have shown that consumers prefer curved objects as opposed to angular ones (Bar & Neta, 2007). The hourglass contour is associated with femininity and is congruent with our female target market. The bottle will take advantage of color psychology by using frosted white glass.

White is perceived as pure and clean, two of the core traits of the product (Kheifets, 2006). Along with this, the Absolut Pure bottle will contain green accents to appeal to the environmentally conscious consumer. The color green is perceived as natural and ecofriendly, expressing the organic nature of the product offering (Kheifets, 2006). Finally, the bottle will contain purple accents to give the perception of luxury and royalty (Kheifets, 2006). The purple will help to identify Absolut Pure as a high-end product (See Appendix 1). The bottle will be designed as a visual stimulus to attract consumers to Absolut Pure Vodka.

(See Appendix 2) Absolut Pure organic vodka is a continuous innovation of the Absolut brand. This product evolution is used to set the Absolut brand apart from competitors. The current landscape of the organic vodka market can be defined as undersupplied, with growing demand and high market potential. Absolut Pure faces little competition and has created a niche market as the only premium mass vodka producer to offer 100% organic vodka. Absolut Pure has identified level of purity and price/status as the two key product dimensions for positioning against competitors.

The direct competitors of Absolut Pure will be small brands such as Prairie Vodka and Square One Vodka, who already produce 100% organic vodka. Although these distilleries have a first mover’s advantage against Absolut Pure, their lack of capital for promotions and limited distribution channels has made them unheard of many markets. Hence, these brands are perceived as low status and are available at a low price. The second type of competitor is fellow “big brand” vodka makers such as Smirnoff and SKYY. These brands place little focus on clarity and are perceived as lower in status.

These vodkas will be available at a lower price point than Absolut Pure Vodka. Absolut Pure will be priced less than “super premium” vodkas such as Grey Goose and Belvidere who have a high regard for quality and purity. Other indirect competitors of Absolut Pure will be hard alcohols, as well as spirits and wine. These indirect competitors will be positioned as low in clarity. With vodka being the most popular choice of alcohol, Absolut Pure must penetrate the market with dominance and recognition. We can anticipate there will be a substantial increase in competition in the near future.

If Absolut Pure is a successful product, other large vodka producers may decide to offer organic vodka at lower price point. In order to retain market share, Absolut must develop a sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) over competitors. Our grassroots approach and green initiatives will foster a sense of community, exclusivity, and prestige among our consumers, forging brand loyalty (our SCA). However, innovative methods must be continuously explored in order to retain loyal customers and attract new ones. Below is a positioning map to show Absolut Pure in relation to these competitors.

For transmitting our product message, selecting mediums that are compatible with our product, and target market is crucial. For print ads, we will select magazines with high prestige, as they are the most effective for communicating messages of quality (Solomon et al. , 2011). Absolut will run print ads in esteemed fashion magazines such as, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and gossip magazine, Vanity Fair (See Appendix 3 & 4). These magazines feature high-end designer clothing and are viewed by women interested in purchasing luxury products.

The selected magazines will be successful in expressing messages of the high quality in Absolut Pure Vodka. Print ads will also be ran in Women’s Health and Shape fitness magazine to target the health conscious consumer. (See Appendix 5) There is a positive linear relationship between socioeconomic status and healthy lifestyle pursuits (Coakley & Donnelly, 2009). Our print ads will be large, simple and use bright colors to increase attention. Consumption of alcohol has been socially stigmatized as an unhealthy and negative act. Therefore, consumers become internally afflicted when wanting to drink vodka.

On one hand, they want to avoid the activity because of the negative effects resulting on the body. Consequently, they want to approach this activity because it elicits an enjoyable and giddy mood. This is classified as an Approach-Avoidance conflict and consumers will experience this when purchasing alcohol (Festinger, 1957). Absolut Pure combines the healthy concept of organic with alcohol. Hence, conflicted consumers will chose Absolut Pure as opposed to regular vodka because it is “not as bad for you” and thereby reduces the tension caused by this conflict (Festinger, 1957).

With marketing alcohol there is the concern of overconsumption. Many consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about the negative effects of alcohol. It is important not to glamorize or promote binge drinking or underage drinking in our advertisements. Absolut will partner with a foundation such as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) to raise awareness on drunk driving and overconsumption. This will combat any negative word-of-mouth surrounding the product.

All Quiet on the Western Front Essay Much like the present, there is a sort of intangible space between the older and younger generations. In All Quiet on the Western Front, youths like Paul Baumer must deal with the disillusion they feel towards what they were taught to believe in by those of the older generation. Once Paul and his fellow classmates are shipped off to war, he and the others learn that some of the things they were taught could not be farther from the truth. The author, Eric Remarque, depicts this notion of a lost generation.

He brings this idea to attention throughout the book in conversations between soldiers and through the thoughts of the main character, Paul Baumer. Remarque emphasizes separation between the older and younger generations caused mainly by the false romanticism the older generation attributed to war. Any thoughts the younger generation might have of glory or honor in war were immediately relinquished following first-hand experience. This sort of passed down propaganda aforementioned was and is an important societal issue. As seen in AQWF, this issue can ruin and even flat-out end lives.

As shown in the book the decision of many young soldiers to enlist was directly influenced by parents or teachers: “Kantorek had been our schoolmaster… He gave us long lectures until the whole of our class went under his shepherding to the District Commandant and volunteered. I can see him now, as he used to glare at us through his spectacles and say in a moving voice: ‘Won’t you join up, Comrades? ’. ” Although Kantorec may have been speaking out of ignorance, the harm had been done nonetheless. Through his naivete he still believed his lies to be true.

In the book this is shown to be true of many of the older generation. It is seen when Paul comes back to his hometown after one year of enlistment and encounters a head-master: “He dismisses the idea loftily and informs me I know nothing about it [the war]. ‘The details, yes,’ says he, ‘but this relates to the whole. And of that you are not able to judge. You see only your little sector and so cannot have any general survey… ’”. As you can see here the ignorant schoolmaster tries in vain to justify logically something he has come to believe illogically.

It is most likely that his beliefs were derived from his parent’s generation, and he still has had no encounter with information that would change his views. This brings me to my next point. False information like this being passed down from generation to generation is what leads to widespread ignorance in a nation. An example of this ignorance is shown in a conversation Paul has with his mother when on leave. His mom asks, “’is it very bad out there, Paul? ’ Mother, which I answer that! You would not understand, you could never realize it.

And you shall never realize it. ” This ignorance can, in turn, cause the election of corrupt leaders and eventually the downfall of a whole country economically and otherwise. This is shown in AQWF by a conversation the young soldiers had. Due to first-hand experience they had shaken off their previous disillusionment and began to wonder what the point of this horrible war was: “‘Then what exactly is the war for? ’ asks Tjaden. Kat shrugs his shoulders. ‘There must be some people to whom the war is useful. ’ … There are other people back behind there who profit by the war, that’s certain,’ growls Detering. Once the youth come to the realization that they have been misled by the older generation the relationship between the two becomes strained. Parents, teachers, and elders, from which they were supposed to learn are now neither respected nor trusted. “The idea of authority, which they represented, was associated in our minds with a greater insight and a more humane wisdom. But the first death we saw shattered this belief. ”

The younger generation refuses to listen to the older generation and they begin to act out in rebellion. Sound familiar? As you can see many of the ideas Remarque wrote about in Germany during the early 1900s, apply to modern day America. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why so many classes across the country today read AQWF. AQWF addresses an important and still relevant issue. That is there exists a wall between the older to younger generation that goes beyond just fashion or culture. How many times have you heard teachers complain of students?

Or students complain of teachers? Or parents and children complain of each other? There is a reason for this. As in AQWF there are things being blindly taught by the older generation to the younger that are not entirely true. Whether it be important, like politics or religion, or just harmless wives tales, there is a feeling among the younger generation that some things that are being taught are just not true. Maybe with new technology granting access to more information will help further the search for truth and help diminish this wall between one generation and the other.

Three generation project

Since, my mother and I are also Russian speaking emigrants our moms found each other fairly quickly through mutual English rouses in the local church. We are sharing a very friendly relationship between our families; spending holidays, birthdays and other happy occasions together. My first impression of my subject was that he was extremely shy and unsocial; however, after the ice between us was broken, he opened up to me and we shared a lot of interesting conversations.

Needless to say, I am approaching this interview from a biased point of view since I know and like this young man. However, I will try my best to remain objective and critical for the sake of this report. To conduct this interview, I contacted my subject and asked him to meet me at my house. To be completely honest, I had my doubts regarding this interview because I had to be extremely cautious not to make him feel uncomfortable with my questions; however, I feel that my goal of getting to know him a little more personally and be able to understand his age group was reached.

INTERVIEW SUMMERY My subject arrived to our meeting as scheduled, and even surprised me with homemade chocolate cookies. I started our interview by asking him to tell me about himself –his interests, hobbies and etc. Basketball turned out to be his favorite sports activity, which he often shares with his friends. Even though he mentioned suffering from asthma he said that it never stopped him from being active. I asked him about his childhood, and what kind of memories he had from that period of time.

He briefly talked about him growing up overseas and his cultural background; telling me about how his life experience, in two different nationalities, had shaped his identity. He remembers his childhood as being as if it was a “black and white movie”, meaning he didn’t have much colorful memories due to their poverty I assumed. As far as adjusting in the United States, my subject said that it wasn’t as hard for him as t was for his mother who had to take care of them both.

As we moved along through the interview, I felt comfortable enough to ask him more personal questions about his romantic and sexual experience. I asked him to discuss about how puberty affected/or still effecting him, and what emotional or physical changes he went through during those years. I found out that my subject has had sexual intercourse with a girl from his school but they did not continue to develop their relationship. In regard to the physical changes with his body, my subject didn’t elaborate too much but mentioned becoming more masculine.

As part of the emotional changes during puberty, my subject said he feels that his parents don’t understand him and he prefers not share his though or ideas with them to avoid any conflict. DISCUSSION Since I do know this adolescent and familiar with his background, history, and his development up to this point of his life, I feel that there are several important points that must be mentioned. As I brought up earlier, my subject grew up in Russia, raised by his mother and grandmother.

His biological father was never around to represent the “male role” or father figure in the family structure. Shortly after they moved to the States, his mother remarried to a man who become a step father to my subject. According Bellboys (2013) physical developmental milestones for adolescence, my subject appears to be mostly on track. The phase of puberty, which is defined as a period of somatic and hormonal changes by which children become sexually mature, has evidently reached its peak when looking at my subject (238).

His voice has definitely deepened (since I knew him when he had the high-pitched voice) and his motor performance is very good being that he plays basketball, and drives a car. Moreover, as the author of the text states, my subject exhibits secondary sexual characteristics, which are the label for the physical changes that accompany puberty along with a growth spurt-?a dramatic increase in height and weight (241). Also, my subject has had sexual intercourse during his brief romantic relationship with a girl from his school; which Belles notes is often an important part of adolescent development (258).

In terms of my subject’s cognitive and socio-emotional part of the interview and how it relates to the theory-based developmental milestones, I believe hat my subject is at an adequate developmental level. For example, given his thought process, when I asked about a certain hypothetical project and the future, my subject was able to grasp these concepts and answer concretely. Discussing his plans regarding college and his possible career is one example of Jean Pigment’s theory of formal operational thinking, regarding his own life. Belles 269) Likewise, my subject’s ability to reason about his past and tell me about his experience with relocating to a different country, shows his ability of abstractly expressing his Houghton (Belles 267-8). He shared with me stories about the difficulties his mother went through when they first got the States; for example, my subject had to go with her to several Job interviews as a translator because her English wasn’t very good. He said he never complained, but he definitely felt like the roles between them had changed, due to the fact that was often relying on him– instead of the opposite.

Piglet’s theory on morality, which influenced and was expanded on by Lawrence Goldberg, at the autonomous morality stage, adolescents realize that intentions, not imply outcomes, should serve as the basis for the Judgment of behavior and that it is the manner in which an adolescent reasons about a moral dilemma that determines moral maturity (Belles 271). I think my subject exhibits high moral values when he talks about his family, in particular what drawn my attention was his step father, with whom he does not share a very close relationship, but has a lot of respect for him for caring for his mom.

Following Piglet’s formal operation theory, David Liked conducted a study where he determined that children that make the transition onto teenage years become more socially conscious- exhibiting Adolescent Egocentrics (272). I have to say that I didn’t spot any sighs of that behavior in my subject; in fact, he barely revealed any self-conscious thoughts regarding his looks or actions throughout the years of our friendly relationship. However, when I first met this young men, he seemed very unsocial and didn’t really talk to anybody, and when he was approached by someone he showed some distress.

At that point I would probably mark him as a social sensitive adolescent going through storm and stress phase (266). Although, the author in our text also describes those teens as more apt to make risky and dangerous decisions, it was not at all the case with my subject (273). Continuing with the socio-emotional development, one of the things that was pointed out in our interview is that my subject has a difficultly expressing his thoughts to his family due to the lack of understanding from their part.

According to Judith Harrier’s peer group colonization theory, immigrant adolescents have disagreements with their parents that may go beyond the reasonable arguing and involve fundamental differences in world views (Belles 288). This situation, in my opinion, leads toward the process of separations between him and his parents. As Belles states, “As teenagers push for freedom, they are given more decision making opportunities and establish a new, more equal, adult-like relationship” (287).

Correspondingly to a research conducted by psychologists, Synthetically and Larson, my subject loves his family very much and enjoys spending time with them; however, he clearly says that when taken as whole, frustrating emotions outweigh the happy ones when living with them (286). I can defiantly relate to that idea! Focusing n the social aspect of developing, a big potential pubertal problem is popularity. From the interview and from my knowledge of him, my subject has increasingly less issues with peer pressure and finding an identity. He speaks of feeling comfortable as been part of a group of his choice.

Supporting this finding, Beelike notes that social standing is very important at this age because it affects ten’s academic/social paths, while being isolated from a crowd can lead to depression (278). Consequently, my subject is a good student, and surrounds himself with a small group (known as liqueur) that shares the same academic interests as him (Belles 289). By doing that I think he is reducing the risk of getting into trouble, because “… Children who are not succeeding with the mainstreams kids gravitate toward antisocial groups of friends, who then give each other reinforcement for doing dangerous things”( 279).

In addition, as Beelike (2013) mentions, school environment has a great impact on adolescent’s development because the academic and social growth is reliant on the ability of schools to fit their programs to the adolescent’s state of mind (284). Thus, for y subject experience in high school, he says that the content of the material being passed on is k, but the way they’ve been passing it is boring. Also, he notes that his school does not have any after school program accept of tutoring. So what usually teens are doing after school is over?

Mostly sitting in groups next to the school– smoking and engaging in other unhealthy and unappreciated activities, he says. Interpreting the author position in this matter, one can see that the need for youth development programs for after school period of the day is essential for keeping the adolescents out of the streets where they usually get into trouble (283). Consequently, those teens might get involved in bad crowds- which usually are groups with a main goal of performing antisocial acts (Belles 291).

Lastly, CONCLUSION In conclusion, I appreciated this project to a great extent due to its real and open minded nature. It is one thing to read about developmental theories, but it is a unique experience to explore those theories in real life and see how they play out. Also, this project was very beneficial for me because it helped understand better one of my close friends whom I like very much as a person. Conducting this interview and the following report helped me gain a better understanding of where this person is coming from and what has led him to his current state of development.

With that said, I personally do not think he represent the majority of the adolescence group. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think that he have always been almost too mature for his age; never got into any serious troubles, treated his parents with respect as if he was an adult and dealt with very serious life changes in a calm way. Needless to say, that my teen age years were completely different. INTERVIEW QUESTIONS (Transcript): Physical Marina You’ve: Do you play any sports? Subject: Yes. MY: Which ones? S: basketball. MY: In general, do you like to spend time outside? S: Yes, sometimes.

MY: Doing what? S: Playing basketball, walking around with friends. MY: Do you work out, or do you Just play sports to keep in shape? S: I Just play sports to keep in shape. MY: Do you drive a car? S: yes. MY: What type of car is this? S: 2011 Ionians Ultimate MY: do you have any health conditions? S: Yes, I have asthma MY: Do take any medications currently? And do you feel that your condition is stopping you from doing stuff? S: Yes, I’m using alabaster. And I never thought of it as something that stops me in life. I mean, I know I’m not able to run tracks but I never intended to do it either.

Cognitive MY: How would you say that you do in school, in general? Is it good, average or poorly? S: Good, school is really easy for me. MY: What are your favorite subjects? S: I think Math is k, but I don’t really have a favorite subject. MY: How long did it take you to learn and speak English? S: At first I thought I will never be able to communicate with others in English although the school material was fairly easy for me because I could read & write utter that I spoke. I think, it took me about 6-7 months before I started talking to people.

MY: In general, how would you describe your experience of moving to the States? Was it difficult to adjust? S: It was somewhat difficult, but it seems to me like a bad dream now. At first, my mom and I we didn’t know anyone here and felt very nervous about everything, even going to the store was a big death. Currently, after several years have passed, we feel it is our home and this is where we belong. MY: When you have a big assignment or a big project to do, how do you usually approach it? Do you wait until the last second or you rather get it done as soon as possible?

S: I usually Just like to do everything in order and gather all the information that I need, and then put it all together in my project. MY: would you describe yourself as pretty organized in general? S: Yes. MY: Have thought about your future? What you’re going to do right after high school – and then even further from there? S: Yes, I have thought about my future and in particular I’m thinking about going to college. I would like to become an engineer one day. Social/Emotional MY: Do you like school? S: Its k I guess, I can’t say I hate it. MY: What would u do differently in your school?

S: I would probably make classes less conventional because it get pretty boring after doing that for so many years. MY: Do you get along with your peers? S: Mostly yes. My: Do you feel popular in your school? S: I think I’m popular among my friends, all the others don’t bother me. MY: Do you have a girlfriend? S: No, not right now MY: So you had one before right? S: Yes, I had this girl from our school MY: Didn’t work out? S: No, we are Just different MY: Do you get along with your mom and you step father? Title of Article: Debilitating Effects of TV on Children

The main purpose of this article is to convince the reader of the negative consequences of television being watched by our younger generation. Not just the quantity but the quality as well. It is too also show how parents fail to monitor what they allow their children to watch on television. It also shows how their developing minds are absorbing what they see and hear and television and the negative consequences to it.

The main arguments that the author is making is that the research studies from the past, present and future, showing how our younger generation are suffering in a multitude of different ways, such socially and academically. The evidence or facts the author uses in this article to support the arguments are as follows:

A 2005 study that was published in the American achieves of pediatrician[->0] and adolescent medicine. It found that the increase of television being watched ultimately led to teen pregnancies, a decline in health, as well as our youth no longer seeking to further their education[->1].

They were no longer interested in college[->2]. (Grohol, 2009).

A 2007 study that was done at Columbia found similar to the 2005 study. Our younger generation was lacking in academic studies, performance and was lacking in the homework department. (Grohol, 2009). The main conclusion[s]/inference[s] in this article is that just like everything else in life it is good in moderation. Television is not the problem as is the quality and quality that is being consumed that is the problem.

The main assumptions underlying the author’s thinking are that American parent is either one of two things. Either they are aware of the detrimental dangers of television but fail to parent or they are not educated on the subject. If we accept the author’s line of reasoning, the implications are that society is to blame for up keeping and raising of our youth, we now blame society for our children’s flaws and fail to own up to our own responsibility as parents.

It is up to us to not only monitor what our children watch but how much of it as well. We live in an era of technology there are many ways in which we can both monitor how much and what they watch. We can block certain channels or teach the right from wrong, we can buy electronically devices that lock a child out of certain programs and also shut a device down after a certain time limit. It is up to us to raise our children not society. If we reject the author’s line of reasoning, the implications are then we own up to our responsibility.

We are saying that it isn’t the television show “16 and pregnant”, fault as top why my child is pregnant but my fault for failing to raise her or him correctly. If your child knows right from wrong what he or she watches should not affect them.
