“Hello,

We have all worked in teams that are both great and not so great. We are all apart of teams to work towards a common goal, and keep the business evolving. But, on any great team, what is the common theme that made that team work so well? I believe it is trust.

Trust is one of the most important characteristics, because we need to be able to trust each other in order to keep moving forward. As part of the team I am currently on, we 100 percent trust each other. Last fall, we were tasked with eliminating one week of training as part of Training Academy for new Service Specialists. We all had different work streams as part of the over all project, but we all knew that we had trust in each other to get it done and done well. We knew we could rely on each other when there were issues or had any questions on any content. Because how we collaborated as a team and created training content directly effects our trainees, we trusted and utilized each other to get the project across the finish line. We need knew that we could give each other feedback, and it wouldn’t be taken personally, but more so for the goodness of the project.

Aside from trust, I believe a good team starts with a great leader. Our manager, is one of the most approachable people and has an uncanny ability to delegate. She knows each of our strengths and delegated the project based on those strengths. She pushes us to become better, but she knows where we thrive and where we still need to improve. Great leaders recognize those strengths and know how to utilize them within a team. Besides her ability to delegate, she is approachable, which is something I appreciate. My team and I know that we can go to her with any issue, but know that we can also trust her.

With all of this being said, there are many other characteristics of a good team, but at the end of the day none of those matter unless you have a good leader and have trust within that team. Once you have those two characteristics, everything else seems to fall into place.

Thanks,”

“Hello everyone,

During my undergrad I was part of a four-person team, in a Management Information system class. Our final project was to come up with a product that we think people will need, and build a website for it.

First characteristic of our group was being able to work within our strength, no one was forced to do something they could not. For example, two of our team members were really good with people, so they were in charge of the surveys in order to know what people like, don’t like and would expect from the product. One was really good with design of the product and make it appealing. And my role was to build the website, as I was better than them at doing it.

Then Communication. We hit couple of roadblocks along the way, with different opinions on what to have on the website or the product itself. It wasn’t easy but by listening to each other point, and making sure we do not dismiss every idea or input, but find some compromise, we were able to move forward with our project and finish it.

And finally trust. Although we had tight deadlines, we made sure to let everyone do their job, and assist when help is needed. No one was policing around, stressing the members about not meeting the deadline. We were working on our own time and had set meeting time where we would discuss how we are doing with the project and exchange feedbacks.

Working on a team is not easy but I really enjoyed working with these people, as they were open minded and willing to learn from each other, and did not lose sight of what we were working for.

Thank you for reading my post.”

“Good evening everyone,

As most of us all know, working in teams can be a very challenging but rewarding process. There can be many differing opinions and personalities that could cause friction within group, making the task much more challenging. However, differing personalities and opinions can also lead to the formation of an excellent partnership within a team.

Most recently, I have been a part of what I would consider to be a great team. The location I am currently working at had been under performing for approximately 12 – 18 months prior to my arrival. The characteristics we have developed and solidified over the past 10 months has caused our location to turn into one most effective location within our district. Trust, communication, and idea networking have all played an essential role to the successful creation of a strong team dynamic.

We quickly realized that trust was going to be a vital characteristic in our intended success. As a group we had to respect and understand what everyone’s strengths were and how their skills could better the group. We had to trust that our differing backgrounds could intermingle and create a more efficient location. Creating open communication lines was a great step our team took to ensure we were forming a strong group dynamic. We learned early on, that in order to perform better, we needed to communicate freely. This allowed us to have a high degree of visibility within each other’s area of expertise, which allowed us to create solutions that were beneficial to all team members. Lastly, idea networking allowed us to informally bounce ideas off each other. This provided us with the opportunity to further refine ideas before we would attempt to implement them to the operation. Idea networking also strengthened our trust and communication within our team. It gave us the chance to better understand each other and how our differing backgrounds could benefit the team.

I look forward to reading about everyone else’s experience!

“A great team is a group of people working together to accomplish a common goal and be successful at it. Dynamics can be understood as the behaviors and characteristics that can impact the person and people around them. Thus team dynamics are the unconscious and psychological factors that influence the team’s behavior and performance.

Here are a few characteristics that I found within our team that compliment them and the entire team making it great inside and outside.

Common goal: I have noticed that everyone is working together for a bigger common goal and share the mission of the organization to put the patients needs first and deliver patient care by serving our Radiology practice.

Trust: Trust is a glue that holds teams together and there is no other way around it. We have a psychological safety around people in our team and we ask the stupid questions to learn from others and there is no fear of failing as we have each others backs and trust.

Conflict resolution: When there are mixed opinions, there is always a chance for conflict and this actually leads to improved processes and raises more healthy discussions to approach a problem with multiple solutions. Coming to a groupthink is the end of creativity and these conversations help achieve the creativity. Followed by these conversations, there is always conflict resolution with team building exercises.

Diversity: Our team is a mix of skills with diverse backgrounds and previous experiences. This makes it more unique and the answers to any questions are only a call away. This brings more knowledge and leaves no room for any bias by coming to premature conclusions.

Interdependence and a sense of belonging: Great responsibilities come with great work and with diverse skill sets, we have interdependence on one another and that brings the ownership of responsibility to the team members and also become more involved in the projects we do which creates a sense of belonging.

Participate leadership: When it comes to taking decisions or responsibilities, everyone is willing to step up for it. I like to point that we all reach a consensus on making decisions by evaluating all the pros and cons. While we are team members ourselves, we often work with other teams and bring together the skills to accomplish a certain task. It is very important for teams that work on multiple projects all the time.

Willingness to correct mistakes: With trust, team members don’t fear the failure and everyone welcomes the corrections to their mistakes and we all learn something new everyday.

We always explore new ways to empower the team and train everyone within the team so that when it comes to making quick judgments, every team member is able to take them confidently and achieve the common goal that we share with the mission and vision of organization.

Thanks for your time. I’m looking forward to read your team dynamics.”
