HIS 105 Strayer University Week 10 Impact of 9 11 on The World Discussion

I need an explanation for this History question to help me study.

Week 10 Discussion

Part 1: Post a Response

Between 200 and 2016, the US experienced remarkable changes internationally and domestically. By any measure, the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001, was a game changer. With that a long, still-ongoing “war on terror” began that meant military engagements overseas and increased domestic security measures. In 2008, remarkably, the US elected its first African American president, Barack Obama. He was elected to a second term in 2012.

Choose and discuss one of the following two topics related to American history under Presidents Bush and Obama:

  1. Discuss the Sept. 11 (2001) attack and its impact.
    • Describe what stands out to you (perhaps from memory) from the events of Sept. 11, 2001
    • Give two examples of events or changes since 9/11 that you attribute to that terrorist attack. In your view, what should we learn from this attack and our experiences trying to deal with it.
    • Identify the source(s) where you read about these free trade issues of that time.
  2. Discuss president Obama’s election and presidency. (Considering our many explorations of race relations and Civil Rights in our history, there is much that can be said of President Obama’s election and presidency, and it is still perhaps too early to evaluate fully.)
    • Identify two specific examples that you think were the most important developments of Obama’s presidency.
    • Explain why you chose those two examples.
    • Identify the source(s) where you read about these changes of the early 21st Century.

Part 2: Respond to a Peer

Read a post by one of your peers and respond, making sure to extend the conversation by asking questions, offering rich ideas, or sharing personal connections.

One very sad memory from the event of Sept 11, 2001, was the way felt when I saw the first hit the twin towers. I was getting dressed for work and the a “Breaking News Report” flashed across the screen that an Airplane had collided with the one of the Twin Towers in New York. At the time of the report, they were trying to figure out if it as an accidental collision, and then a second Airplane flew into the second Tower. America knew at that point that it wasn’t an accident.

In my mind, my first thoughts were to the people on the planes, and then to the people working in the buildings. On the east coast where I lived, it was between 9-10am when this happened. And then the news reported that people were jumping from the buildings. I could not believe that, my heart completely broke for those that couldn’t get out and felt the need to jump.

Sept 11th, 2001, changed the World and the way we do things. It made Americans more protective and selective of where they would travel, and very watchful of the people that were traveling on planes and trains with them. If bought out a very nasty racist side of many Americans and they began to treat Middle Eastern American Citizens as responsible for the attacks with racial slurs, discrimination, and asking many of them to remove the religious clothing. In the major airports, security screening increased worldwide, and many things you could board a plane with prior to 9/11.

I have take flights prior to 9/11, and after. My husband was U. S. Army for ten years, so I had to make flights to get to his duty stations. If I had to fly after 9/11, and when I began to board, half the plan was visible Middle Eastern Individuals. I would asked to take another flight unless some of the passengers were babies. No one wants to have their children hurt, not even Middle Eastern terrorists, I would hope.
