Why Did the European Colonists Come to Americas

Why did the European settlers come to the americas? The european settlers had a very rough life back in europe, none of the texts exactly go in detail about why they came, but gave just the main ideas. I would argue that for this essay we will be using Rodriguez, Bradford, Mann, and Murray to justify why the european settlers came to the americas seeking for more opportunity and freedom from their previous country. Bradford’s story show the European settlers view on the religious aspect of why they came to the Americas

European settlers came to the americas seeking a better life but were then met by the native which are commonly misunderstood because people don’t necessarily know them. Bradfords story of Plymouth Plantations starts of with a group Europeans met by a group of natives on a beach. The Europeans came to the americas on a religious journey that they believed was set out by god “And i may not omit here a special work of god’s providence” Bradford 5. This quote shows that the european settlers mean no harm to the natives due to its religious reasons. In Mann’s story the reader is introduced to an indian named Tisquantum. The author shows how he interacts with the indian. He went around and got all the work from different people such as historians to explain the life of the indians. Mann’s purposes for writing this story is to show the reader that people often look at indians as savages. He wants to show the reader that there is not a very big difference between the european settlers and the indians. Murrays and Rodriguez story both share the same similarities.

In Balboa by Sabina Murray and Blaxicans by Richard Rodriguez, both of them have the same idea when it come to immigration. In Balboa it explores the relationship between balboa and the indians. Balboa does not have a very trustworthy relationship towards the Spaniards or the indians, he never exactly says why he does not trust them or the piards but it does say how the piards and the indians are working together “His one thousand Indians and two hundred piards at the foot of the mountain, as if they are the israelites and Balboa alone is off to speak with god” Murray 77. This quote is showing that the Indians and the Spaniards have no problems involving each other. In the story Blaxicans, it shows how Rodriguez does not view people on their race, but more on their culture, in which that is what makes a person who they are. We as people should not labeling people based off first impression and skin color. “There is something unsettling about immigrants because…well, because they chatter incomprehensibly, and they get in everyone’s way” Rodriguez 87. This is an example of judging because not only do they not know what they are saying because of their two different languages, but also the possible importance of their conversation. When it comes to immigration there are a lot of benefits that come with it.

Immigration has a lot of benefits such as new fresh ideas because of more people as well as a more wealthy community. In Bradford the Indians were scared when they first saw the Europeans. But in the end the European settlers ended up becoming friends and having the first Thanksgiving. Even today we still follow this tradition. They also came up with six terms that they both fallow. One of which was term number four “If any did unjustly war against him, they would aid him; if any did war against them, he should aid them” Bradford 17. This shows that people can be allies, they just need to give each other a chance because now that they are allies, if someone were to start unjustly war against them they would have the aid of each other.

An Analysis of the Immigration Ban of Donald Trump

Table of contents

Trump’s Ban is Religiously Discriminating

As we all know Donald Trump had won the presidency against Hillary Clinton in this past election. Trump took office in mid-January and has already made some radical changes throughout the Country. Of these changes, the most infamous, would certainly be his immigration ban.

This law prohibited persons of many middle-eastern and African based countries from entering the United States. Amongst these countries were Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, and Sudan, Libya. Many people were shocked with how suddenly and swiftly this all happened. There were certainly mixed feelings of the people regarding this ban.

Trump was certainly vocal during his campaign about changes such as this. I feel many people were surprised about this because often presidents do not do as they say (Lowery, page 1, para.4). Regarding religious discrimination, this action taken by Trump is more complex than one may thing. In my opinion, it can be discriminating against religion in some ways, and in other ways it is not.

Many people were supportive of this decision, while many knew it was not justifiable. I understand that presidents are granted the power to make such decisions, but this technique is contradictive, unethical, and downright stupid. I’m not one to really indulge in political debates, especially those that pertain to my own country, however I feel there are a lot of negative points to this that need further discussion.

The reason being, that these so-called bans affect people both inside and outside of the United States. One reason I feel that this is not specifically an attack on religion is because several events led to these decisions. Some of which include 9/11 and ISIS attacks. The United States is implementing these bans to help protect their country.

Islam is not 100% feared because of their religion, rather the extremists and radicals that place a negative perception of the religion. Not to mention, that not everyone in these regions are simply Muslim, other religions such as Christianity and Jewish also reside in such lands.

However, on the other hand, these bans also could have the possibility to be religiously fueled. Although not all of the individuals are Muslim, the majority is. Which means that there is reason to believe that Trump just doesn’t like Islam. Since I am from the Middle East, I have much familiarity with such instances.

Many American’s are unaware of how the government of countries in the Middle East work. One of the most common themes is no separation of church and state. Islam is governed entirely by the words of the Quran. Therefore, even if Trump just doesn’t care for the way in which it is governed, it also has ideologies of religion woven in the mixture as well. These ideas overall are more complex than one may ever know. However, I have indicated that such bans may or may not be religiously induced.

Immigration to Spain has increased rapidly over the last few years

Immigration to Spain has increased rapidly over the last few years, one of the most obvious reasons being its proximity to North-Africa. One indicator of this increase is the number of petitions entered for a residence permit. The total of these petitions in 1999 reached about 95,000, doubling that of 1998 By the end of 2000 this number will have doubled again, or even tripled. However, the proportion of foreign people living in Spain is barely 2%, not much at all compared with 6% in France and 9% in Germany.

Immigration is not going away, and many people think it shouldn’t. Apart from the evident fruits that multiculturalism and cultural exchange bear, apart from the just as obvious call for solidarity with people leaving their countries in search of a better life, and apart from the fact that immigration to Europe has become inevitable, there are some pragmatic reasons to welcome non-EU citizens within our borders. Europe’s demographic situation is one of them.

Our population is growing slowly and ageing rapidly. Several studies indicate that if this pattern does not change, within five years time we will have difficulty providing the elderly with their well-deserved (and just as keenly-anticipated) pensions. The active population working to pay for those pensions will be unable to keep up with the ever growing group of retired people unless immigration counters this demographic trend, it is argued.

Spain, in fact, is an ideal example. This country’s population is growing more slowly than ever, with birth rates at an all-time low: 1.07 children per fertile woman. UN statistics indicate that by the year 2050, if nothing is done about this evolution, Spain’s population will have fallen from 40 to 30 million. As immigrants traditionally have a higher birth rate, their presence could counter Spain’s present pressing demographic problems, with the added benefit of bringing other cultures and lifestyles which create new jobs and bring foreign expertise to areas such as tropical medicine, specific kinds of education and cultural services.

Immigration is proving to be the answer to problems faced by the Spanish labour market. Certain sectors, mainly agriculture and the construction industry, are constantly in need of unskilled, cheap labour. Most immigrants to Spain fill jobs that few Spanish citizens are willing to take up, and do so on low wages. Farm owners in Andalusia faced a deficit of 35,000 workers this summer. The horticultural sector in Aragon has similar problems, as does the construction industry in the Canaries.

We are dealing with a serious short-fall in work forces, and an equally serious number of people at the borders, trying to make it into Spain and fill those empty jobs. The central Government seems as reluctant as ever to let them in. Only about 30,000 people a year are legally allowed to immigrate, clearly an insufficient number compared to the enormous need for extra work forces.

The logic of the market dictates that empty jobs will be filled, legally if possible, and definitely illegally if necessary, a situation which opens the door to further illegal labour, mafia racketeering and plain exploitation. Instead, we might start contemplating better integration programmes, we might make it easier for undocumented foreigners to get their situation regularised, we might try and provide them with any specific needs and protection required or desired.

Internal Migration and Development

In discussing the differences between the migration of the internal Chinese migration compared to the international migration of the Poles to UK, I will look at a variety of push and pull factors. I will then go on to look at the impacts to both the area from which these immigrants left as well as the area that they went to.

Firstly I will discuss the push and pull factors relating to the immigration seen internally in China. The migration is voluntary and from rural villages (where there is very little employment and a poor standard of living) to the constantly expanding big cities such as Shanghai. It is important to point at that this is nearly always a temporary migration as the migrants generally have the intent to return within a few months. The migration is of working aged adults who leave their children in the rural villages being looked after by the grandparents. The main reason for this migration is certainly an economic reason.

There is nearly always work in cities such as Shanghai in areas such as building and working in factories. The jobs pay very badly and working conditions can be poor. The reason for leaving there children to work in this environment is in the aim of getting a better quality of life for them and their children. It is easily arguable that this is the main economic reason that not they themselves benefit from the migration but their children.

I will now go through the Polish migration to the UK. This was an international and voluntary migration. Like the Chinese migration the reasons are mainly economic. However in contrast people do have jobs in Poland however wages are very low and people want to raise their standard of living. More money can be made in better conditions and less time in British jobs. The difference is so great that people the Polish workforce in Britain are often overqualified for the jobs that they obtain and are still paid more than they would be in jobs they are qualified for back in the UK.

Also similar to the migration seen in China the Poles want their children to lead a better life from the move. However their goals differ slightly in that the Poles aim for their children to lead a more materialistic life from the migration. EU freedom to migrate and get work acts as a pull factor. This is due to the simplicity of the move. It also means that people are more likely to get work and not be discriminated against. Towns with a history of locals excepting migrants (such as Peterborough) mean that people are more inclined to move as they do not have a great fear of prejudice.

The most obvious affect that the migration in China has on the areas from which the migrants left from is that children left with grandparents which in turn means that the dependency rate is extremely high. Money is sent back to these villages from the parents however they visit back home to these villages relatively rarely. On returning to the villages the parents will often bring goods such as TVs and they often bring fireworks to celebrate their return. So to a certain extent their goal to improve the quality of lives for their children is achieved.

In contrast the impact in Gdansk was that women had many more opportunities to work due to the lack of males in the population. The country now has much more migrant Labour from countries like Korea and Lithuania to help with the lack of a workforce in Poland. Poland are now sending officials to the UK in and attempt to bring people Polish people back to places in Poland such as Gdansk.

In looking at the impacts on the countries receiving the migrants in China it is clear to see that overcrowding is a major problem in cities such as Shanghai. An underclass seems to be developing in the major urban areas of poor illegitimate workers with a lack of options and without a real chance of their situation changing any time soon. Discrimination is also apparent in the Cities due to the local workers not willing to be paid what the migrant workforces are. However the cities are expanding extremely quickly and this is simply due to the cost of the manual labour.

With the Polish migration many more police are certain school workers have to be bilingual. The Poles do contribute to the economy in the UK as they pay tax and often open shops or businesses which can employ British people. Many industries are now reliant on the migrant workforce such as Stanford Stands simply due to the cost and often efficiency.

Immigration Population and Workforce in USA

As the immigration population increases in the united States so does the New York workforce according to this article. Nonetheless this is not a very positive thing once the article goes in depth about why this is so. Sample says that in a time of widespread Joblessness, Mexicans, specifically in New York. Have proved to be skilled at finding and keeping work. The article focuses on Mexican because they are the it’s largest immigrant group.

They have the highest rate of employment and are more likely to hold a Job compared to the typical New Work’s native-born population. This data was In accordance with an analysis of the most recently available census data. Surprisingly statistics show that Mexicans In New York are even employed at a greater rate than Mexicans nationwide. Sadly, these statistics do not happen without out the consequences of workplace abuse. There are several reasons why illegal immigrants are the targets and ideal workers for most employers.

This is true for the fact that most employers are interested in hiring people who are willing to overlook some labor laws. Most of these workers said they had never been paid overtime compensation almost always were given the dirty Jobs and were sometimes forced to work on their only day off. As one of these employees said in the article, there is not much that they can do to even stand up for their right because they are too scared of either being fired or deported. The employment rate Just for New Work’s working-age Mexican men is even higher at n astounding 97 percent.

Some analysts believe that the census underestimates employment rates for populations with high numbers of Illegal Immigrants, Like Mexicans, because those without legal documentation fear revealing their employment status. Response: Sample addresses a lot of issues that emerge from hiring immigrants. There is not just the abuse of their rights and labor laws but, emotional or psychological abuse on these employees. This is a very helpful article for those who do not understand or are angered by immigrants taking over American Jobs.

It is not very appealing to the average American citizen to work long hours with a pay less than minimum wage. It is no surprise that in New York most Mexican immigrants are heavily concentrated in jobs that involve food preparation. Another area that they are not surprisingly hired in is construction. These are occupations that require a lot of hours on the Job and I know for a fact that Is can and most likely causes emotional stress particularly when hey are being extremely under paid.

To Be a Californian

Every day, thousands of people migrate to different sectors of the globe, to capitalize opportunity or pursue better lifestyles for themselves. California is one such state, which prides itself in being able to accommodate diverse populations and cultures. Like many stipulated theories. Immigrants chose the land to Inhabit based on the desire to acquire better living standards for themselves. Immigrants that arrive in California for instance seek the warm natural scenery provided by the state, the freedom to live whichever way they deem fit, the available bob resources, and the willingness to dream and achieve one’s dreams.

Those who aspire to be Californian are told that there are deferent methods to do this. The promises linked with being Californian leaves them with the desire to migrate and gain the new life promised to them. On closer examination, it becomes apparent that the concept of being Californian is linked to Individuals that have the freedom to live their lives as they please, work hard to achieve their dreams, and be tolerant of diversity. Nevertheless, any concept that goes against this remiss may lead to failure of not becoming a “real” Californian.

To support this discussion, an examination of Denies Sponsor’s “A new Perspective on the Dream,” Quays “Interviews” together with support from the survey result on Californian identity, will show that individuals’ that desire to live a free life, are tolerant of diversity, and aspire to achieve their dreams qualify to be “real” Californians. Excerpts from Sponsor’s article gives the illumination that a “real” Californian is a person that lives freely and enjoys every aspect of life. Spooned (2008, p. 2) gives an illustration of how people migrated from Iowa so that they could get away from the Judgment surrounding the community. In the post war era, California presented an area where one could run away from sexism, racism, and self-freedom. The essence that surrounds freedom is the desire to escape imprisonment or slavery offered within the society. It is also the desire to give an individual’s TO BE A CALIFORNIAN 3 family new opportunity to experience realities that one may have missed. Therefore, they choose to migrate to California since they experience a lack of advancement or retardation in their current environment.

As I conduct some interviews with some of the individuals in the region, one respondent retorted that he migrated to be free from poverty. This is a similar story to the one given by Spooned, which talks about a young girl who experiences a sense of freedom through her uncle’s migratory nature. It is evident through this story that freedom is acquired through progression areas may ring restriction into how much an individual can progress, California offers a place to gain new insight into freedom and its splendor.

Spooned continues and says that when many people hear of the wonderful life in California, they cannot help, but find ways to get there (spooned 2008). This is a clear indication of the sense of peace and freedom experienced within the state. An essential component of being a “real” Californian is taking risks as a way of achieving one’s dreams or combating one’s problems. Many people are deprived of the splendid essentials that life has to offer, and so grow up hoping to create better lives than they had.

This is evident in an interview of Cruz Reynolds as presented by Quay Cruz grew up in an age where many Mexicans experience segregation, but through his efforts, he was able to acquire equality for his school members of Mexican descent. Cruz, like many immigrants, had a desire to live better lives than their parents or make better lives for future generations. Sometimes, however, this implies sacrificing one’s time to struggle for the things that are essential or meaningful in their lives.
