Jesus Messiah or Universal Savior

Matthews and Like are the most similar of all of the canonical gospels, they offer different messages and send differing accounts of the figure of Jesus. Matthew calls Jesus the Jewish Messiah, while Luke does the opposite. Luke calls Jesus the universal savior, and by doing so each writer sets up their gospel to try and explain who they think Christ Is by using their writing and knowledge to their advantage. Matthew depicts Jesus to be the king of the Jews by using words such as kingdom and fulfilled.

He tries to present evidence as to why Jesus is the promised Jewish messiah. Both gospels contain a genealogy of Christ and in each of them the writer agrees that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham and David. This relationship between Jesus, Abraham and David is essential to Matthews gospel. He uses these key Jewish figures to prove that their prophecy has been fulfilled. Luke on the other hand agrees that Jesus Is related to both Abraham and David, however, he argues that Jesus is the universal savior and the son of man rather than Just the Jewish messiah and he roves this by tracing Jesus’ lineage back to Adam the Orlando Son of God.

The mall point that each writer raises Is that Christ Is of Importance . I believe that Matthew sets up his gospel so it cannot be proven wrong. One interesting thing that he does is he compares Jesus to Moses in the “Sermon on the Mount” And in that very moment Jesus is like a king to his subjects. ” When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him” (Matthew 5:1 MRS.). In many ways this imagine is Just like that of Moses when he came down from Mat. Sinai.

Jesus starts interpreting the original Ten Commandments, the old law, and offers new law; which is recalling the revelation to Moses. If Jesus is like Moses, and Moses is a messianic figure then Jesus must also be a messianic figure himself. It is also suggested that Jesus teaches much Like that of a rabbi according to Duet. 9:9. Jesus Is set up to be above everyone else, and this Is what Luke has an Issue with. If Jesus were the Messiah, why would he stop with Just Jews? Luke believes the complete opposite of Matthew.

Jesus is not the Jewish Messiah because he is the son f man; his is the universal savior. A sharp contrast to the “Sermon on the Mount” is the “Sermon on the Plain”. This idea puts Jesus on the same playing field as all other people. ” He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of people from Judea, Jerusalem, and the coasts of Tree and Sided” (Luke 6:17) Instead of being above of all non-gentiles on a mountain he stands with them, suffers with them; he is equal.

In Lake’s words God’s love goes beyond Jews and Judea. God’s love goes beyond Judea because Christ is the universal savior. So why does this matter? It matters because It is possible that Matthew and Luke may be using the same document for their gospels. “It Is assumed in this article that the verbal resemblances between Matthews “Sermon on the Mount” and Lake’s “Sermon on the Level Place” are so striking as to make It certain that the two evangelists are here working over the same documentary source. ” (Peg. 88 In the this is the case then it is plausible that no only did Luke expand off of Matthews gospel but he may have used the same “documentary source ” to preach a similar message. Patton goes on to talk about the similarities and differences in both Matthew and Luke like I have except he looks directly at the differing ways that Christ talks to his followers such as ” The injunction of Jesus according to Matthew, ” Be Ye there Perfect,” Luke seems to have softened into the injunction, ” Be ye therefore merciful,” as being more within the bounds of attainment. (Peg 288, Deviations) If this is the case then Matthew and Luke are both trying to make sense out of the same or argumentatively the same document. Matthew and Luke have differing motives as to why they focus on certain elements in their gospels such as their takes on Jesus’ sermons and his genealogy. Where ever Matthew emphasizes Jesus’ “Swinishness” , Luke De-emphasizes it by tracing Christ back to Adam the original son of God and by including both Abraham and David it ties both of these figures to Lake’s belief because most of Christians were Jewish at this time.

So instead of associating his reader ship wants to bring Jesus to the “world”. Matthew uses language in his gospel to describe Christ as king of the Jews. Luke twists Matthews word in his own gospel to prove that Christ is instead the universal savior. I find it interesting that Matthew argues that Chris is solely the Jewish messiah and how the prophecy was fulfilled. On the other hand, Lake’s gospel to sounds like the very first beginnings of the idea of Christianity.

It is as if Luke was saying that is Just so much more to this figure of Christ that he is more than what we thought. In essence, the concrete differences in both Matthew and Luke are only minute compared to the possibility of their source being the same, the synoptic problem loud lead us to conclude that if they both hold a different view of the sermons of Christ. Then who was he really? Is Christ the Jewish Messiah or is he the universal savior?

Luke makes Christ both divine and human while Matthew makes Christ the King of the Jews; I think that is necessary to know how they were as people or Disciples of Christ before we even compare these two gospels. Their geographic locations will allow us to the see their differing religious views more easily. Even though they have very different motives, they both agree that Christ is a savior, and although they will always promote different things the messages that they send will always resound as similar tidings.

Both gospels tell us to be a decent human being and to hold your self to a standard higher than animals. Through Patron’s article ” In the Deviances of Matthew and Luke” we can see that not much differs and not much changes the message of the lord will remain the same through out time regardless of what religion one claims he is the savior of.

Jesus Christ and International Leadership

This paper will describe how Jesus himself was an international leader. The format will be as follows: Jesus as a leader, his role as an International leader, and how he still Influences events Internationally. This paper argues that what Jesus taught and how he acted as a leader differed much from other teachings on leadership. Jesus was not just a leader, he was a servant leader. Dale Carnage’s teachings on leadership will be the first to be compared with Jesus’ teachings. First Carnegie tells his readers In How to Win Friends and Influence People that we should always show appreciation for people.

He distinguishes true appreciation from flattery and says that it is only true appreciation that will open doors. [insert quote]. Similarly, Jesus also shows a strong appreciation for people. The story of the Prodigal Son teaches the reader that In addition to loving one’s neighbor one should also love one’s enemy. When the spendthrift son had wasted all of his father’s money on an extravagant lifestyle and prostitutes, he realized his disastrous lifestyle and come home. Yet his father not only welcomed him back but slaughtered the best pig and organized a feast In his son’s honor.

The Sermon on he Mount praised those who no one else wanted to praise. “Blessed are the poor In spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth,” said Jesus. Yet Carnegie asks for us to show appreciation for others because we may never know which opportunities and benefits doing so will give us. Jesus taught us to honor and appreciate other, especially those who are not usually receive accolade, because it is part of God’s purpose for us. Second Carnegie emphasizes that we should give the there person a reputation to live up to . Insert quote]. Jesus teaches something similar. Before he dies on the cross. Jesus gets down on his knees and washes his disciples feet. When one of his disciples disapproved at doing such a demeaning task, Jesus replied, ” Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. ” On encouraging others, Jesus also teaches us to submit to God’s will. The Book of Luke tells us that right before Jesus’ arrest he prayed while sweating drops of blood, ” Father, if you are willing, take this up from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.

Jesus gives us a reputation to live up to showing us his example. He does not motivate us teach us to be prideful or to Instill pride In others. As leaders we should act with humility and encourage others to do so as well. We should Inspire In others a reputation to be a servant. Third Carnegie tells his readers to encourage instead of punishing. [insert quote]. 1 OFF Jesus, as well, rarely Trace toners to accept ml Ana Nils teaching. Ratter en encouraged them by being merciful and voicing his higher expectation. Once when Jesus was at the temple, an adulterous woman was brought in to be stoned.

The Pharisees wanted to stone her for breaking one of the Ten Commandments and asked him for his opinion. Jesus demanded, ” Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. ” After cold-hearted Pharisees had left, the shocked and sincerely grateful women stayed behind. Jesus simply told her to go and leave her life of sin. While Jesus was being beaten by the Roman soldiers and spit upon, bystanders yelled that Peter was one of Jesus’ disciples. Peter embarrassed by he bullying and scared for his own well-being, denied the accusers three times.

Instead of standing up for Jesus, Peter ran away and wept. However, Jesus understood the importance of encouragement. After his resurrection he comes back to visit Peter and asks Peter to shepherd Jesus’ other followers. Carnegie tells his readers to encourage others and praise all of their small accomplishments mostly for the motivators own benefit. Jesus on the other hand saw people as the ends and not the means, valuing them not for what they did but for who is were. His disciples went on to influence people all around the world.

Everyone thought that they knew me so well, opinions change, and I’m not a little girl anymore

What would you think if you could see me now? I don’t look perfect, and my shoes aren’t very clean anymore, I’m not very clean. Nevertheless, I’ve made sure that my gold pendant has stayed intact, I don’t even think that you remember buying it for me. It was the one thing in the entire shopping mall that I wanted, on that boiling hot summer’s day. I think that it must have been the first and the last thing that you’ve bought me that I’ve liked. You bought it even though you detested it. I’m stroking the metal; it feels cold against my skin, ice cold. I haven’t felt warm for days. As I sit here cold and alone, I realize just how much I should be enjoying this. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to have a choice, to do things by myself. Well, here I am ready to make a move. I’m hungry now; all I can smell is the deliciously tempting aroma of chips from the shop, on the corner. I need food. If I’d sold my necklace earlier I would have had money. Who am I trying to convince? It is my necklace, my own and we will never part. Scuffing my new ‘clean’ white dirty shoes I wander aimlessly down the road. I don’t like some of the looks that I’m getting; they’re disapproving, condescending, and nasty.

  • “‘Oooh look at her, doesn’t she look rough'”

If I had it my way, I’d be in a warm, soft, and luxurious bed. But instead, I’m here, pacing the streets, solemn and silent. I can’t even begin to imagine, where I’m heading next. Grasping the chain firmly in my left hand I gently remove it. The sweet smell of gold is revolting. As I clutch my pedant I’m slowly beginning to realize how far away that I am. I’m walking along a side road now, just approaching a turning. Do I take it? Where do I go? Which road shall I take? It has to be one of them. I need guidance, no, no I don’t, I make my own decisions, and I can take control. One of these roads seems familiar, a street full of detached houses all lawns exactly the same not a strand of grass out of place, not a tree that dares whisper in the wind. It’s precise, just like you. The second is a mystery, just like me.

I still haven’t had any food; I’m beginning to feel ravenous. I have fifty-five pence. I didn’t think of bringing any money. Mind you I didn’t really think that I would leave. I don’t remember much about earlier, the massive row. I just remember two words ‘dirty slut’. He was raging at me again like it was strange to go out and party, a deadly sin to have fun. You spotted my pendant and asked why I was wearing such a grotty thing, It’s not like I expect you to understand, so don’t worry, I don’t blame you. I’m at the end of my road now, adjoining to my road is the main road, I’m taking it, strutting down the center as I own it. I’ve been doing that recently, holding my head up, I’m proud. Today isn’t tomorrow and today certainly isn’t yesterday, while I lay here in my cardboard box, that I found late last night, I ponder this. Chips used to taste nice, from what I can remember, but not these ones. These are soggy and cold; I was lying next to them this morning when I woke up. They are in a newspaper that’s sopping wet, from the heavy downpour that also happened; late last night. It’s food through something that I’ve desired for what seems like an eternity.

My pendant is clasped tightly in my hand, I’m staring at it intensely, it’s been ten days so far, and why did I leave? It’s getting colder day by day. I’m trying to find somewhere to stay, somewhere that I can feel warm and secure, to revitalize my flickering spirit. The rusting gold is more visible these days. As it gets older its age becomes more noticeable, more so than before. It’s in my open palm now stretched out, like it’s about to sprout wings and fly away. Lately, I’ve been different, dad why do you blame my friends? I suppose I’m just your little angel that will never spread her wings. Remember that night; I do, the ‘slut’ night. I wear make up short skirts and high heels, just like most people my age. Don’t you think about what I could have said to you? How arrogant you are or how oppressive that you can be. Why do you think that I didn’t? I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to hurt your feelings like you did mine. The Mona Lisa, your favorite painting while you sit there at your computer father, chew on this, she’s smiling, is she happy? I think that I should be sitting in that portrait, don’t you? The ripple of the pinky blue dusk that has set over the middle of London on an October night becomes more prominent as I stand staring over the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. I grip the railings I laugh, a high pitched screech, I’m so cold, so famished, but I’ve never felt so alive. Cradling my pendant like a damaged child, I say my last goodbye. I’m attaching it to the fourth bar on the second row.

I look up to the beautiful night sky

I love you, mum,

I love you, dad,

I love you,

I love you,

I love you,

So much,

I’m going home.

Pastor Church Family

Often many times within a church family such as Grace with over thirty five hundred partners there are bound to be conflict. Any environment whether large or small we are all people, with personalities that some time come together in a manner that does not always show the church family in the best of light. I find people look at livers as we are designed to be different and we are in a way.

We as believers are called to be different, yet we are people. This transformation comes not from our doing but through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. This paper will outline a situation at which such an instance was brought to light. The manner in which the situation was handled by the pastoral staff, and finally, the outcome from the situation as well as the change that took place due to the situation. In order to understand the situation we must talk about the background behind the situation. A few years back Grace Covenant Church had a pastor by the name of Karri.

Pastor Karri and my mother got along quite well. As far back as I could remember Pastor Karri and my mother hit it off like sisters. Pastor Karri daughter would come over to my mother’s house unannounced and stay for the day Just to sit and talk. Quite often Pastor Carrie’s daughter would find herself at my mother’s house to take a load off in between classes. Pastor Carrie’s daughter Jollied was going to college located in Statistical located about five minutes away from the campus. Jollied would stay hours at a time after she was done with school. I found this to be quite out of the ordinary.

Sometime my wife Jessica and I would go up there to see my mom Alba and stay for some time. We would arrive there to find Jollied already there; she would end up staying as long as I did. I remember one time she stayed there until the sun went down. I often asked myself “why would she stay here this long”? It would seem that Jollied did not want to go home. My mother kept her promise never to bring up situations that were talked about, and I know it was the hardest thing for my mother to do because she loves to talk. My mother is a talker. She can keep a person on the phone until you fall asleep and she will not even know you fell asleep.

One day my mother did break the bond of silence and confided in me on a particular situation. My mother began to unfold the situation that struck her in the heart and she did not know how to handle it. I told her that I would never speak of it, so I will honor my promise to her. Needless to say the situation came out within the pastoral staff and LEAD team in the church. It was brought to our attention due to the pastoral staffs need for us to come together in prayer. The conflict that arose was a preference in the way things should be handled within her family by a pastor within the Grace Covenant family.

A situation had broken out with Pastor’s Carrie’s daughter. The denominational hierarchy as well as the pastoral staff wanted the situation to be handled in a manner that would not bring to light a situation that could be looked upon by the church partners and the denomination as a pastor that did not know how to maintain control of their family. Here is where I have the problem with the situation and the handling of it within the denomination. People fall short all the mime, that is what missing the mark is.

When people in the church family miss the mark those people are not shunned or set aside as outcasts? Those people choose to confess the sin that brought them down, repent of their sin, are forgiven because God is a merciful God and they are led on a Journey which leads them back to the fold of God’s arms. My question is very simple, given this circumstance. If the daughter of a pastor was the causing the situation would it not be in the best interest of the church to bring all parties in the situation in and try to come too place where leaning can happen in the pastor’s family as well as the church family?

The pastoral staff was being told by the denominational board to handle the situation one way, and the pastoral staff its self wanted to handle the situation anther way. Here is where the conflict resided for about six months within the church. Pastor Peripheral and the church staff wanted the healing process to be held within the family before it became worse. The church had come together the way a family should in times of trouble. There was conflict between the denomination and the pastoral staff, coupled gather by the conflict between the pastor Carrie’s feelings and her daughter.

This tension and conflict brought much division into the church for some months. While the pressure continued to escalate within pastor Carrie’s family, as well as the church for the situation, there were grumblings of tension being felt with other staff and volunteers. As I look back at the situation I saw things happening that should not have been happening. John 17:1 1 states Jesus prayed that all believers would be one. Jesus did not want conflict to arise within His people. I could not understand why the research was pushing so hard to have resolve in this issue, in the manner they choose.

The back and forth went on for a few and finally Pastor Karri put in her resignation. I firmly believe this was not the right way to handle what had gone yet, this is what took place. I think what really bothered me about the whole situation looking at it in hindsight is all the secrecy that took place. I guess I would have understood if the conflict was interpersonal, that is one thing. This conflict seemed to rest along the sides of organizational views. Could I have less than all the information I believe this could be true.

I also look back at the way the pastoral staff handled the issue with Pastor Derrick and I see the staffs willingness to invite the body of Grace Covenant into the sorrow that had taken place. On the other hand Grace Covenant pastoral staff went in front of the church one Sunday and told the body effective immediately Pastor Karri will no longer be on staff at Grace. The reason that was provided was a “difference of views”. I do not know about you but that was not enough for me. Especially that pastor Karri was overseeing the entire woman’s spieling group.

This did not settle easy with me nor did it settle with many partners either. As with any conflict within the body of Christ, many women left the church over the decision that took place. My mother and many others stayed due to a trust which developed over time for the pastoral staff to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes God’s glory not their own. I can see the growth throughout the pastoral staff from one incident to the next. In regards to Pastor Carrie’s incident the staff was very tight lipped about what the reasons for her leaving the church.

The pastoral Taft noticed the disruption this kind of activity had upon the cohesiveness of the body at Grace. This type of discord and unknown within the body would spread like a poison within the body. The pastoral staff did not want this at all. We fast forward months later and the situation with Pastor Derrick arises and not to have a lingering cloud over the body at Grace the truth in all its ugliness was brought out into the open. There is growth and one would say conflict prevention within the body through the two examples. Personally I cannot think of a way to prevent conflict.

As I mentioned in my peeing statement. We are all people with different personalities. I do however believe the way to which we conduct ourselves in the midst of conflict is a direct reflection of Christ in our lives. Our example of this is our Lord and Savior Jesus. When the soldiers came to take Him away in the garden of Statement He did not put up a fight. Even as Peter cut Off soldier’s ear, Jesus told him “those who live by the sword die by the sword”. At the center of conflict Jesus remained in peace. He is our example of living amongst personalities that are different from ours yet living in as one.

The Last Supper Argumentative Essay

The Last Supper Dear Sarah, I know you missed class last week, but I would love to explain one of the important pieces of art we went over, The Last Supper, painted from 1495 to 1498. That day, we went over the history that led up to period of Modern Art. As Leonardo dad Vinci painted this huge piece of art, 15 by 29 feet, he had purpose and meaning into every detail, which I will explain to you. The subject around Leonardo dad Vine’s The Last Supper is based on the last meal Christ had with his twelve disciples before one of them betrays Jesus.

Judas is the one that betrays Christ that leads to His death on the cross and Resurrection. This meal is also known as the Passover meal where Jesus broke the bread and drank the wine as remembrance of his body and blood that He sacrificed for all mankind. In the Bible (Matthew 26), Jesus says that the one who will betray Him is, “He that tippets his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. ” In the painting it displays Judas’ left hand and Jesus’ right hand reaching for the food. The Last Supper clearly displays classicism within its details.

The biggest thing hat Leonardo dad Vinci displays in this art piece is Neo-Platonism. This idea or truth has God in the center of all things. It can be displayed as a triangle, which stands for the Trinity, and gives a sense of stability. In The Last Supper, we can see that Leonardo has Jesus in the center of everything, which you will see in the later descriptions. First sign of neoclassicism is the triangles that make up Jesus and next Him. The head of Christ makes the top of the triangle his hands make the bottom two corners. This is so important, since the triangle is upright.

When a triangle is upright, it gives the meaning of stability. Therefore, where Christ is the center, there is stability. However, there is an upside down triangle next to Jesus. This is the sign of instability. I believe this is on that side of Jesus, because Judas is also on that side. We can tell that Judas is on this side, because one, both him and Jesus are both reaching for the food, and that is described in the Bible. Also in the Bible (Matthew 26:1 5) it says that Judas was given thirty pieces of silver to betray the Christ, and in Judas’ right hand it kooks like he is holding a sack of coins.

Lastly, Leonardo dad Vinci painted Judas’ face different than all the others. His face is kind of blurred and is shaped oddly, which is unlike all the others. There are a lot of evidences of classicism in this painting. In this picture, Jesus is the focal point. One sign of classicism is in the lines and symmetry. All of the lines in the ceiling and walls all lead to the head of Jesus. The three windows in the background are symbolizing the Trinity, and the biggest one is framing Christ. This also makes Jesus stand out even more.

Also everyone is either pointing to Jesus or are looking at Him. The bread and meal plates are all evenly spaced, which is the sign of classicism. Another sign of classicism in this painting, the colors are very complimentary. Jesus is especially bright in His red and blue. Leonardo did this on purpose, because he wanted to make Jesus stand out the most. This is why he chose red, the color that stands out the most in paintings. The last sign of classicism is the balance. On each side of Jesus, there are two sets of three disciples.

The three disciples is a sign of the Trinity and the four groups is also a symbol of Plat’s four virtues. In conclusion, The Last Supper is a huge symbol of classicism and Neo-Platonism. Leonardo dad Vinci had many meanings behind each and every detail, from the placement of the bread, to lines on the ceiling. I hope this helps you out a lot. There is a lot of information in Just this little paper. See you next week, “Leonardo Last Supper. ” Smart History. Khan Academy, n. D. Web. 18 Jan. 2013. Http://consistory. Schenectady. A story could still have the same moral guideline of a poem but be written by different same time on opposite sides of the world without the authors ever hearing about each other’s work while still being very similar. The purpose of this paper is take a look at writings from across the globe with multiple themes and to see how much these relate to each other. The theme Truth & Justice make us look deep into ourselves to see what we truly believe in. Do we believe in a moral code that governs us all or are we subject to change our morals Just like the wind changes direction?

The short story, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson from the United States of America, shows us an unjust system of the past that has stuck around years longer than it ever should have. We watch as people mention how it is wrong to stone someone yet do not take steps in stopping what is happening. Showing us how peer pressure can have such a huge impact on what we decide is truth and Justice. If everyone calls for a decision we decide that is the new truth and the new Justice. In the poem, National Trust by T. Harrison from England, we are shown a new form of truth, one that seems to be forgotten.

We need to realize truth and Justice are things in our past and future, not Just in the present. We cannot forget where we have come from otherwise we will not be able to get where we are going. Now in the same theme but a different concept we see William Wordsmith author of the poem The Tables Turned describe a situation where it is better to be out in life then to stay in and read explain that to sit back and Just listen n itself is wrong. It is a corrupt use of your time to not do anything while the world around you is changing.

In the poem Tell All the Truth by Emily Dickinson we are able to see another corrupt thought on truth. We can always spin the truth to benefit ourselves but does it stay the truth or has it now become something different? We can spin it to benefit others in kindness or tell it bluntly, which hurts people. In The Interview by Ruth Para we witness a new theme of Human Qualities and Ideals. Confidence is something that falls short in this generation and in this story. A man who cannot choose for himself to live on his own and succeed in life is viewed as a failure.

But if we see these people as failures and remind them of that will they ever change? Unlike the Interview in the poem No Coward Soul Is Mine by Emily Bronze from England, projects self-confidence in how she lives her life. Even though she had a rough time becoming an adult, she still refused to give up. She shows us her struggle and explains how she found God in all of this who is now her confidence. She has so much confidence there is now no room in her for fear of death. Now in the essay “Shooting an Elephant” by George Orwell we see a shift in thought.

We see that if you do not have the confidence you need to stand alone then you make mistakes. Peer pressure cannot move mountains but it can move mountains of people. If you are not confident in who you are then your choices are influenced more by those around you then your own thought process. We make choices to fit in with culture, when we do this; we normally lose satisfaction with ourselves. We experience the exact same situation in the essay Salvation by Longboats Hughes. When pressured by people to make a decision you can either stand firm in hat you know or choose to change what you know.

Either way a decision is always made. When forced into a decision though you feel like you betrayed yourself Just like the child feels he betrayed everyone around him by “saying yes to Jesus”. The ability to stand out even when it is tough to do so. We see that it can be worth going through the hardship of being different. When you are faced with a hard decision to make the right decision is not always, what everyone else is choosing. We are given a situation in this poem where a boy needs to choose against what all of the adults are choosing.

He needs to believe in himself and what he finds beauty in the make the decision that he does. In the poem The Enemy by Pablo Neared, we see the same theme but with a new view of life come from it. We now see the dangers of having an ultimate truth that we hold too without thoughts as to how it could be wrong. We are shown that when you put your identity in a truth like this you will make enemies that believe in different options. The choice then become are you going to hold to your truth and keep an enemy or will you reevaluate what you believe to be sure that you are in fact right about this topic.

Just like an atheist and a Christian have a hard time connecting on a personal level so do others who have ultimate truths. Now in an essay written by F. Scott Fitzgerald called “The Crack Up” we are privileged to witness once again a new version of the same theme. We see that identity is also shaped by our accomplishments and our failures. A seriously depressing essay but yet one of truth without fear of being who you are. This ultimately shows us we are to be confident in who we are and even though we don’t always enjoy it we are still going to be okay in the end.

Biographical Reflection of John the Baptist

Biographical Reflection of a Saint- John the Baptist Though such an accomplished man, not much is known of John the Baptist’s childhood. John, what a basic name right? Wrong, even the name of John was holy, for his name in Hebrew means, “Jehovah is gracious. ” But moving on to his adult life, he pursued the life of a priest without ever being officially recognized as such. The greatest thing that occurred in his adult life was the Baptism of Christ Jesus, our Lord. However, very few people know that Jesus and John were relatives, cousins in fact. John did not know that Christ was the Messiah until the miracle at the Jordan River.

When Jesus approached John and asked that he may be baptized in the way of the Lord, John said, “Should it not be you master, who cleanses me. ” And Jesus replied, “I am but a servant to you, not master. ” And with that, John agreed to baptize Christ, but as the water was poured out upon Christ’s head, the Holy Spirit was revealed. Known as the first disciple of the completed Christ, now unified with the Holy Spirit, John continued the mission of baptism. As for when he earned the nickname “Son of Thunder,” Christ gave the name to him, under rather adverse conditions.

They were traveling together through Judea, and Christ was under ridicule. John felt they were being so unjust, so far from the best humanity could be, he asked the lord to wipe them out. At this point Christ prayed that God would forgive them, while telling John, no matter how unjust the Judeans were the Lord will never take life for his name. He was in some senses so close to divinity others asked whether he was the Messiah, however, he always replied, “Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friends of the bridegroom, which stand and hear him, rejoice greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: thus my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. ” This showed his humble appreciation of Christ, by saying he must be known less, and Christ more. However shortly after the Miracle at the Jordan, king Herod for the spreading of as he put it, “an unorthodox faith,” arrested John. He spent two years in prison until he was released because of the new, changing Roman Empire.

John eventually went back to baptizing at the Jordan. This career was once again short lived however, for Salome, child of Herodias, demanded his death. And thus his fate was set in stone; he was to be beheaded in A. D. 31. Once beheaded, his head was to be given to Salome on a silver platter, as a sign of disrespect. As for what I think, I feel the act of baptizing Jesus was the highest honor humanly possible. For this he was very lucky to be the one to perform so noble an act. As the first saint I had ever known, John had a substantial impact on my life.

As soon as I knew what Confirmation was, I knew I had to pick the first I had known, he with the greatest impact on me, John. I remember always feeling a sense of divinity whenever I saw an illustration of him baptizing Christ. As a child, I always wanted to obtain knowledge; because of this I became increasingly familiar with him, even at an early age. The thing I liked about him the most as a child was how I shared his name. And so, this biographical reflection begins and ends with a name, John.
