Palomar College Building a Charge Transfer Device Electrophorus Lab Report
Question Description
The goal of this lab is simply to build a charge-transfer device called an electrophorus. There are many videos out there of how to make one, but I don’t know what items you have in your residence for building it. so you should really figure out a way to create one. I really don’t care if you and several classmates all conspire to build yours identically to each other. I just need you all to have one that works.
If you can repel a piece of recently-unrolled tape with it, you have succeeded. All I want is a description of exactly how you built it, as if you were telling friends so they could build one just like it. I’ve made many of these myself. My most recent version is described as follows:
I cut a circle the size of a teacup from cardboard and wrapped in aluminum foil. I then taped a soda-bottle cap on the middle of one side to be a handle. To charge it, I used a large piece of Styrofoam that came in a package I ordered recently.
Good luck!
