PRPH 100 The Five Ways by Thomas Aquinas & Proof of God Discussion Post
Can you help me understand this Philosophy question?
WHAT: The format will be a longer paper (1500 words) that extends and critiques one of the short assignments completed earlier in the course.
Your paper should include the following elements:
- An introduction that explains the issue that the argument you’re analyzing addresses and its significance.
- This should also include a brief overview of the paper that includes a statement of the thesis that you will be arguing for. (E.g., “In this paper, I will argue that Descartes’ theory of substance dualism is correct…”)
- A presentation of the argument you’re analyzing that includes identifying premises and conclusions, grounded in the text (i.e., citing the source for support).
- An identification of at least one key premise to the argument and an explanation as to why it is important for the argument.
- A real-world application or example of the argument in action in order to demonstrate its relevance and truth value.
- Note: your example can repeat moves you’ve encountered in the readings or in class (cited properly if they’re not yours), but it should also make some distinctive, original contribution to the discussion.
- At least one objection or counterargument and at least one reply to the objection.
- A conclusion that includes a brief summary explaining how your critical discussion supports the thesis of your paper and that addresses the “So what?” of the argument and/or issue.
I expect your paper to be thoroughly grounded in the original texts and that all sources, including helpful insights from instructor, fellow students or others, will be properly cited.
