PSY 2012 University of Central Florida TED Talk and Self Hypnosis Discussion
Question Description
For each module you will participate in one graded discussion. In order to give you some flexibility and try to keep you as engaged as possible, I will provide you with multiple prompts. Your initial response to one of these prompts (worth 2 of 4 points) is due by 11:59 PM on Saturday, 9/19):
1. Reflect on the videos you watched about hypnosis in the Hypnosis page of the module (TED Talk and Self-Hypnosis). Were you able to be hypnotized? Why do you think you were or weren’t? Do you think hypnosis is real? Why or why not? If not, what evidence would you need to be convinced? Be sure to cite specific paraphrased content from your text and/or the modules to support your post. To encourage comments and meaningful discussion, include addition questions that have been raised for you following learning more about this area that you would be interested in discussing as well.
2. Click here (http://video.nytimes.com/video/2011/05/31/opinion/100000000843474/bloggingheads-the-morality-of-sleep.html (Links to an external site.)) and watch the 6 minute discussion on whether or not we should feel guilty for enjoying sleep so much. What did you think? Should we feel guilty for enjoying sleep? Which arguments did you find most persuasive and why? Be sure to cite specific paraphrased content from your text and/or the modules to support your post. To encourage comments and meaningful discussion, include addition questions that have been raised for you following learning more about this area that you would be interested in discussing as well.
3. What is one preconception you had about the brain and it’s impact on psychology, consciousness, sleep, hypnosis, or drug use and how has it been changed? Be sure to cite specific paraphrased content from your text and/or the modules to support your post. To encourage comments and meaningful discussion, include addition questions that have been raised for you following learning more about this area that you would be interested in discussing as well.
