SJSU Utopia Community Society That Is Arranged Very Differently From Ours Discussion
Can you help me understand this Philosophy question?
I have attached the reading below. Please answer it only use textual citation in the reading to answer (NO OUTSIDE SOURCE)
Answer these two questions in 250-300 words total, while providing at least TWO textual citations (the citation doesn’t count in the word length). Please use as many as possible to support your answer.
1) According to Raphael Hythloday’s description of Utopia, what is the cause of greed and how do the Utopians minimize greed? Do you think this is a good characterization of the cause of greed and of the solution to minimize greed? (Hint: look at the top of pg 104, Book 2, “Social Relations,” para. 4)
2) In Utopia, More gives us a society that is arranged very differently from ours. Notice the lack of conspicuous individual displays of wealth in Utopia. Also notice how many goods, like food, houses, and household goods, are shared between households. Does this seem like an ideal that is realizable for us? In other words, is this a realistic model for society? Why or why not?
