Mother`s day

Just like every year, the education week was celebrated in our school with great joy. As part of the week the mother’s day was celebrated.

The theme is to highlight the role of mothers in the proper upbringing of children. It is the mother who can help shape the character of the child. The mother’s role in the development of the child is of varied nature. Not only should she look to the physical growth of the child but also to its mental and spiritual growth. She creates and shapes the proper environment in which the child can develop. The manners and behavior of a child are only a reflection of the home in which it has been brought up. The aim of the day was to make mothers aware of their place in the upbringing of the child.

The Inspectress of schools presided over the function. One of the Secretaries of the Mothers’ Association of the school welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. Several speakers spoke on the various aspects of a mother’s role.

One of the speakers spoke about the nutritional aspect. She emphasized the need for providing a balanced diet to children and on the methods of preparing wholesome food at home. She touched on health of children as being important for a nation as a whole and stressed on environmental cleanliness. She observed that from a health point of view children should be allowed to play freely and the dangers of living in crowded areas. She wanted the government to see to the sufficiency of space for play in every school. Yet another speaker emphasized the need for moral education in which mothers could play a signal role. A friendly, loving and, affectionate atmosphere at home helps to shape the character of the child.

The chief guest expressed her joy at being present at the occasion and would endeavor to help the school in every way possible. She observed that mothers could help in making the midday meal scheme a great success. She asked the mothers to supplement the work done at school. She emphasized the importance of a happy home in the shaping of the character of children.

Since then this day has been celebrated as national festival and called as Republic day of India. In this essay we have provided, not only the glimpse of Republic day celebration but also interesting images for attraction of kids.

Republic Day of India

India is the world’s biggest democratic nation. Though India got freedom against British rule on 15th of August 1947, but till 1950 we do not have our own law and order to follow. The 26th of January 1950, was the dawn of world’s biggest democracy, when we got our own constitution and India became a republic nation. From then on, this day has been declared as a national festival of India and we celebrate this day as Republic Day of India. The word republic means a country that is ruled by people, elected by the the people of that nation.

Today we have completed 63 years with our own constitution and proud to be a part of the world’s biggest democracy. This is our privilege that we are the citizens of a secular nation. Our constitution provides us freedom to travel anywhere in India, freedom to adopt any religion we like to follow, we can arrange public meeting; we can express and share our thoughts etc. Being a citizen of a democratic nation, we not only have many rights but also many responsibilities to carry out.

Republic day celebration

On 26th January of every year, we celebrate our Republic day. This is India’s national festival and also declared as national holiday. On the eve of Republic day, cultural programmes are arranged in school, colleges and different public places. Political and social meeting also arranged for considering social and national issues. National flag is furled not only at government offices but also at public places. National anthem beats inspire the countrymen with feelings of patriotism.

The main attraction of Republic day is the special Republic day parade taken out at Rajpath, in front of India gate in our capital Delhi. Early in the morning people from all over India, start to gather at Rajpath to watch this parade. People, who can’t go there, watch it on television. Some foreign ministers are also invited as chief guests on this occasion. Indian Prime minister with other ministers and chiefs of armed forces also arrive at Rajpath. With the arrival of Indian President and foreign chief guest, the national flag furls sky high.

The bravery awards are distributed to brave soldiers, martyrs, brave citizens and brave children. Brave children are brought by elephants on this occasion. After this Republic day parade starts with the flag march of all Indian forces. Indian president takes the salute of all Indian armed forces. Armed strength of the country has been shown in this parade. Tableau from many states of India and Union territories, are the center of attraction for everyone on this occasion. The Rashtrapati Bhawan and important government buildings are decorated with light in the evening.

How we should celebrate this festival?

This is the festival of proud for our nation. Every countryman should participate in this occasion. We should also remember our freedom fighters on this day. This is an occasion of patriotism, unity; peace, love, proud, happiness and inspiration. We should make some principle on this occasion and try to be loyal to our duties and nation.

Here are some promises; every countryman should do to himself and nation:

• We shall root out all evils from our society and nation. • We shall respect our constitution
• We will always remember our freedom fighter and golden heritage of our country. • We shall feel proud to be the part of India.
• We shall spread the spirit of united India.
• We shall root out corruption from our society.
• We shall make our people literate.
• We shall protect our national resources and save our environment. • We shall follow principles of our great ministers.

Annual day function

Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with a deity, an object of worship, or a spiritual entity through deliberate communication. Prayer can be a form of religious practice, may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words or song. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creed, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitionary prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and worship/praise.

Prayer may be directed towards a deity, spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshipping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins or to express one’s thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others. Yoga is also a common form of prayer. Most major religions involve prayer in one way or another. Some ritualize the act of prayer, requiring a strict sequence of actions or placing a restriction on who is permitted to pray, while others teach that prayer may be practiced spontaneously by anyone at any time.

Scientific studies regarding the use of prayer have mostly concentrated on its effect on the healing of sick or injured Prayer has many different forms. Prayer may be done privately and individually, or it may be done corporately in the presence of fellow believers. Prayer can be incorporated into a daily “thought life”, in which one is in constant communication with a god. Some people pray throughout all that is happening during the day and seek guidance as the day progresses. This is actually regarded as a requirement in several Christian denominations, although enforcement is not possible nor desirable.

There can be many different answers to prayer, just as there are many ways to interpret an answer to a question, if there in fact comes an answer. Some may experience audible, physical, or mental epiphanies. If indeed an answer comes, the time and place it comes is considered random. Some outward acts that sometimes accompany prayer are: anointing with oil; ringing a bell; burning incense or paper; lighting a candle or candles; facing a specific direction (i. e. towards Mecca  or the East); making the sign of the cross. One less noticeable act related to prayer is fasting.

The Day I Will Never Forget

Cassandra SmithOctober 13, 2011 EnglishFormal 2 The Day I Will Never Forget The hardest thing I had to face in my life when I was younger was when I was thirteen. That day would be July 14, 2005 and it is the day . My family and I went through so much about seven months prior to her passing. We got through the tragedy. She was eighty-two years old at the time. I will never forget her telling me the night before that she had to go to the doctors for a check-up meanwhile I was in school but when I got home, I would go right up to my grandmas.

We lived on the same property. That day I went up there I remember her telling me that she had cancer and the doctors gave her six months to live, maximum. I was devastated and I didn’t know what to think. I was so close with her so it was hard for me to handle. We moved into her house three months before she went and we took care of her while no one else. That summer morning on July 14, 2005, I remember my parents, my brother and I sitting on the porch. My cousin came over to see her around 8:30 and then she left because she had to head to work.

It was ten minutes to nine and I laid on the couch that was located on the porch. I remember how everything was set up. I remember the living room, the porch, just everything in that house. The couch was a sand tan color with a floral design and a table diagonal from where it sat. Nine o’clock rolled around, my father walked in to see if she was alright but when he came back to the porch he said, “She’s gone”. Those words hit me like a meteorite falling out of the sky hitting Earth. I immediately started crying because it just didn’t seem real to me.

The crazy thing is a few days before she passed I made a picture of a cross with the date and year of when she was going to die and my picture was right. It was just scary. That day and the next few weeks were chaos. My father had to call all the family, set up the obituary and the funeral services. The next few days I would cry myself to sleep, cry all day. I didn’t know how to cope with what was going on around me, I was only thirteen. My parents called the funeral home and told them what happened; the directors came and took her.

The family didn’t want my brother or I in the house so they sent us back to my house. Of course, I put up a fight because I didn’t want to leave, I didn’t want her dead. I wanted her here. The following week was hectic with the funeral arrangements, sitting down and talking about everything so it could go in the paper. I stayed in my room on the computer while the family gathered in my living room to talk about what they wanted to write for the piece. My cousin took my brother and I shopping in Kingston to get an outfit for the funeral; I didn’t know what to pick out but my brother found his right away.

The following year was the hardest because I knew she was gone. I knew I couldn’t just walk across the drive way to visit her like I normally would have, I can’t sit with her and watch television, I can’t sit and help her with her word search books. All I thought was why did she have to go so soon? I didn’t want to accept it but it was life and I had to accept it; it was reality that I had to face. I talked to my dad about how I felt and what was going on and both my parents supported me through the whole thing. My mom and my dad knew how close I was with her.

Two years later, my house burnt down while I was at school and when I arrived home I was just worried about my dad and the rest of my family. The one thing that was crazy in the house was there was one picture of my dad’s family on the wall and the fire never touched it; all my family had the instinct that my grandmother was in the house as the guardian angel. I know that she is looking down on me and my family because of the events that have taken place from when she passed up until now but I know she will be looking down on me all the way up until I die.

A Day Worth Remembering

April 10, 2007 is a day I will never forget. It was the day I gave birth to my son. Beforehand, I thought it would all be a piece of cake, but to my surprise, it was far from that. On my way to a routine check-up, it seemed as if all I was able to think about was how bad my back hurt and that I could not wait to have this baby. I arrived at the doctor’s office and everything seemed to be running smoothly. I sat in the small, cramped room for what seemed like forever after the nurse had gotten my vitals.

The doctor finally came into the room and asked me how I was feeling. I informed her that besides the fact that I was wobbling around and carrying an extra 30 pounds, I felt just fine. She then looked at me with a facial expression that had me thinking the worse. She informed me that my blood pressure was through the roof and that they would have to induce my labor. There I was, a first time mom about to go through something that I had never experienced before. Nervous doesn’t even begin to describe the feelings that I was having at that time and moment.

I called my husband and informed him that I was being sent to the maternity ward. Calling him did not help me to calm down. To be honest, I think I was calmer than he was which was surprising since he had been through this before. Finally, after all the questions and trying to comprehend what was going on, he was on his way. I was finally taken upstairs to the maternity ward and admitted. Not too long after arriving, I was given Pytocin to get the contractions started, a drug given to speed up the dilation of the cervix, since there was a chance of my son’s heart rate dropping.

Shortly after I was examined, I was diagnosed with severe Preeclampsia, a condition in which the blood pressure is significantly high and chances of seizures and liver failure can occur. Not only was I diagnosed with something that I had never heard of with the potential to become fatal, the woman in the next room over that was actually giving birth at that time was screaming her heart out. I wanted to dart out of that place. I was beyond terrified. I sat there in a daze for most of the day since I was on so many different medications. You would have never thought that I was in labor because I was hooked up to so many machines.

I felt like this was the worst day of my life and swore I would never do it again. The sharp, rushing pains of contractions kept coming, and to me, life as I knew it sucked. Whenever the pain came along, it would be stronger, longer, and more unbearable than the last. This lasted for an eternity in my eyes and I could not wait for it to be over. I eventually made it to the ten centimeters required to deliver. I was almost to the finish line and I was ready for it to be done and over with. With my husband and mother at my side, I felt invincible.

They gave me the energy that was necessary to make it through one of the most important days of my life. I had my game face on and nothing stood in between me and giving birth to the son I was dying to meet. I began to push. The first push and I thought my lungs had collapsed. I was determined to end the long journey I had been on for nine months. With the second and last push came a beautiful, little baby boy. All that I had gone through was well worth it and if I had to do it all over again I would. April 10, 2007 was one of the most terrifying but happiest days of my life and I will always remember every detail of it.

The Days to Come

“The days to come” is the last chapter of King’s grouping of essays “Why we can’t wait?”. In this chapter, King projects his ambitions for the Civil Right Movement, that includes a greater political role for African-Americans, a new way to bring everyone out of poverty. But how does King conclude his essay?

In this extract of MLK’s closing of “Why we can’t wait?”, King emphasizes on world peace. He starts by saying: “the greatest contribution may be in the area of world peace”. This sets the reader in MLK’s perspective and tells us what he is going to talk about. After that, he says that peace is a result of nonviolence.

He later adds that sadly a very few practitioners of nonviolent actions are committed to its philosophy. King criticizes indirectly the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) theory, where nations develop their nuclear power just to secure that they won’t get attacked. This theory is a paradox because the political agreements won’t safeguard the lives of a certain country’s inhabitants against this fatal death.

It can be noted that King uses a multiple of figures of speech throughout his writing. For example, King uses the butterfly effect, which consists of presenting a small action that causes a bigger one. We can see this in the third paragraph: “Sooner or later all the peoples of the world, without regard to the political systems under which they live, will have to discover a way to live together in peace. … He became endowed with a conscience”.

King later describes human evolution, especially concerning cannibalism. He says that the violence that the black community has received is as abhorrent as eating another’s flesh. This is mentioned in the Holy books such as the Bible and the Quran.

Lastly, we can deduce by the essay’s ending that MLK started local, and finished global. In other words, King started by finding a solution to Negroes’ needs, and later on, he started generalizing problems of very specific people to a problem that the whole world is suffering from. To justify my point, King last sentence of this grouping was “Nonviolence, the answer to the Negroes’ need, may become the answer to the most desperate need of all humanity”

In conclusion, I agree with MLK’s actions for multiple reasons. King stopped the injustice that Negroes were suffering at the time, but also thought about a theory that allows all human beings to live together in peace.
