The purpose of this study is to provide an overview on how Organizational and Executive Coaching course is significant to the business world and the concepts that are the most critical to synthesize learning. The discussion will include concepts learned from Keller (2012) and the implications that organizational and executive coaching play in the role of advancing God’s purpose for business on the earth. Five major concepts of organizational and executive coaching with a significant impact on organizational goals are culture of the organization, positive organizational image, diversity, leadership development, and leadership reflective inquiry. Each of these concepts help to shape the organization, leaders in the organization and their direct reports. Comprehension of the culture, image of the organization, and leadership development permits business strategies and goals to be achieved. Keller (2012) provides insight on how these concepts demonstrate the design of work, the dignity of work, work as service and the idolization of work as selfish or other material/immaterial items that may delve into the spirit of one’s being.
Synthetization of Key Concepts
The concepts learned in the course gave insight on how to overcome challenges that many may face through various levels in business. From entry-level to upper level management personnel, the course and the material demonstrated ways that all employees can impact their company by re-evaluating their current business model and implementing the concepts that were learned through the course. Having the knowledge and wisdom affords a benefit to organizations to successfully train at the executive level, to attain accomplishments to complete strategic and organizational goals. The most important concepts to help with successful coaching at the organizational and executive level are culture of the organization, positive organizational image, diversity, leadership development, and leadership reflective inquiry.
Diversity
Diversity offers multiple provision of benefits through partnership. Research has proven that individuals are more productive when they have someone walk alongside them. Relational empowerment can be found when a person has the aptitude to bring about thoughts and intentions that may not have otherwise been brought to the surface. The opportunity for diverse perspectives bring about viewpoints that may have not been otherwise considered and organizations are able to thrive when meeting the demand of various backgrounds.
Leadership Development
One verse that relates to the influence of one life on another is Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Effective coaches get below the surface, so leaders can get better clarity about their motivation and actions (Roehl, 2018). Persons receive assistance when they fall, have the comfort of companionship and protection when under attack. Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 says “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. The wisdom and perspective of others influences maturity and understanding (Roehl, 2018).
Reflective Inquiry
An example of the final stage of reflective inquiry is found in Exodus where a true example is shown through the coaching provided by Jethro to Moses. Jethro met with Moses on several occasions, found out what he was doing personally, had discussion about his journey and provided celebration and encouragement, when needed. Additionally, Jethro challenged any fruitless conduct and asked reflective questions that allowed for provision of wise counsel. Jethro was set in place for the development of Moses’ ability to lead God’s people through a method that was healthy and fruitful.
In Acts, an example can be found in the relationship between Paul and Barnabas. The growth of significant leaders in the Early Church were influenced by the encouragement of Barnabas. He walked alongside Paul, when everyone else turned their back. When faced with a decision to remove someone from the team, Barnabas provided a listening ear and assisted in the workings of overcoming personal issues to work through the posed challenges. Barnabas discerned potential in others, discovered God at work while working alongside others and encouraged them to remain steadfast and true to the will of the Lord. All these acts and characteristics demonstrated coaching effectiveness and Barnabas’ influential aptitude to inspire leaders.
