Training United Nations Organization’s Employees - MyhomeworkGeeks
Nowadays, in the conditions of high job competition, each organization with a good reputation must have experienced human resources professionals. Using special techniques, they hire skilled specialists and support them in the working process. One of the ways to help employees to do their best at work is training. In this report, information on the activity performed in the United Nations Organization (UN) context will be provided. The UN is a world-known organization, which is founded in 1945 to establish peace in the world after the war lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was selected for the report because it is one of the largest companies, which has more than 190 offices worldwide and hires about 40.000 people (United Nations: Shaping our future together, 2019). The report describes training employees because it is the primary tool for the successful performance of staff at work. Indeed, training remains the best way to motivate employees and impact their working performance positively. Moreover, it is crucial to deal with changes that happened due to technological development and market competition (Karim, Choudhury, & Bin Latif, 2019). To implement a new teaching program for staff, organizations usually start by accessing the training and preparation of employees to learn further information. The process is continued by creating a teaching program plan, its implementation, and evaluation of results (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2018). The effectiveness of training depends on several factors, such as a detailed analysis of an organization’s needs, aims, and individuals who work in the company. Assessing characteristics of employees and working environment and identifying program goals allows human resources professionals to identify tasks that should be performed. Choosing an appropriate method for training ensures the achievement of positive results from the implemented programs. The plans may include lectures, demonstrations, discussions, games and simulations, case studies, and role-plays (Miri, Abu Mansor, Chasempour, & Anvari, 2014). It can also be audiovisual, computer-based, or performed on the job (Noe et al., 2018). The majority of companies provide training to their employees right after they hire them because they need to explain to new workers the main principles of their organization. Also, they teach how their duties should be performed and demonstrate what skills should be used to be successful in a new workplace. Some companies prefer to employ their interns so they could save time needed for specialists who just entered the system. In the context of working at the UN, training is crucial for effective international civil service. The main goal of the UN is to prevent hostilities in the world. To achieve this goal, it is significant to establish reliable diplomatic relationships between various countries, working for solutions that all members of the organization could support. As a result, the staff of the UN consists of people of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. Therefore, it is crucial for the organization to teach its employees how to collaborate effectively with individuals who have other religions, ways of life, and cultural peculiarities. To create effective training programs, the UN created a particular subdivision, which is called the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). To create an outstanding training program for a large amount of UN workers, the UNITAR develops high-quality learning solutions and knowledge products and services for its employees (United Nations Institute for Training and Research: Our vision, mission, and core functions, 2019). Like the majority of other organizations, the UN uses the generic instructional creation process while implementing new training for its employees. First of all, human resources professionals explore the needs of their office. In most cases, they design programs for entry-level specialists and individuals who started working recently. During the interview and selection process, the human resources specialists tell potential employees that they would have to participate in various training to improve their operational performance. Then, the UNITAR develops unique teaching plans, which are performed by the United Nations System Staff College. The assessment of the effectiveness of the programs is usually conducted through tests and examinations of learners. Due to the diverse cultural nature of the organization, the majority of training is built to improve the communication and language skills of their workers. Therefore, the primary methods that are used for teaching are discussions, games, and simulations. Usually, they are performed on the job and conducted in groups. It can be concluded that training programs are crucial for each organization for the successful performance of their employees at work. It allows us to increase the overall performance of a company, improve provided services, and strengthen its position in the market. There is a specific plan that is usually followed by the majority of organizations for the development and implementation of training programs. It includes identification of organizations’ needs, preparation of staff, creation of training plans, their performance, and assessments of results. Methods of training play a significant role in the whole process of staff teaching, and it varies depending on the needs of organizations. Thus, the primary methods used by the UN are games and simulations, which are performed by a special division of the organization. References Karim, M., Choudhury, M., & Bin Latif, W. (2019).
