I’m working on a Psychology exercise and need support.
Address the following six glossary items using the following guidelines.
1. State the definitions in the text.
2. Explain these definitions as if you were talking to Introductory Psychology students or high school students.
3. Provide, at least, one example to demonstrate your understanding.
4. Explain the example to demonstrate mastery of the definition.
5. If you use more than one example, explain how the examples are related.
- Principle of falsifiability – “Popper’s contention that for a theory to be considered scientific it must specify that observations that, if made, would refute the theory. To be considered scientific, a theory must make risky predictions.” P. 26
- Reification – “The belief that abstractions for which we have names have an existence independent of their names.” P.26
- Nihilism –“The belief that because what is considered trye varies from person to person, any search for universal (interpersonal) truth will fail. In other words, there is no one truth, only truths. The Sophists were nihilists.” P. 59
- Positivism – “The belief that science should study only those objects or events that can be experienced directly. That is, all speculation about abstract entities should be avoided. P.436
- Dialectic process– “According to Hegel, the process involving an original idea, the negation of the original idea, and a synthesis of the original idea and its negation. The synthesis then becomes the starting point (the idea) of the enxt cycle of the developmental process.” p. 193
- Phenomenology “The study of intact, meaningful, mental phenomena.” P. 464
