Woodbury University Changes on Gold and Platinum Classifications Paper
I’m studying and need help with a Management question to help me learn.
2. Gold and Platinum have always been the measuring sticks for “record” sales. Note that in different countries, these levels vary greatly due to the differences in population.
For example, Gold in the U.S. is 500,000 units, but only 50,000 units in Canada, a much smaller country (lowered to 40,000 units in 2008 given decline in sales). Recently, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the organization that issues Gold and Platinum certifications in the United States, changed how they will measure Gold and Platinum. In what way did they change it? Find an article that discusses these changes and if the author felt they were justified.
3. Are the Billboard Charts still meaningful? If so, in what way? See if you can find an article that discusses the charts and their relevance in today’s marketplace.
4. Think about all of the ways that you can use the data available to help your artist locally, regionally, nationally.
5. What data, if any, that is not currently collected, would you want to have to a visual artist?
