Barack Obama or Socrates for President

The United States of America’s presidential election is always been the major political event in the entire nation, on which set of prominent, outstanding and powerful politicians in the whole American nation are set to challenge each others capabilities. Under the unified goal, the list of clever American politician showcases their profound abilities and qualities to become the next president of the United States of America and rule the country for the succeeding years of their term, as the new head of entire states.

United States presidential election, on the hand, is arguably he most significant event of the entire United States of America, as it is the critical episode in the whole country, on which the people and the entire American society is up to decide whether who to entrust the future of the whole nation and the entire American dreams. The 2008 United States presidential race is one of the historical elections, the Americans will have, on which it is the first time to happen that there are no incumbents from both presidential and vice-presidential position, since the 1928 presidential election.

Technically, all the running politicians for presidency are equal, on which every running candidate have definite advantage over the other and has a fair share possibility to be the next head of the influential American nation. (Rate It All, Inc. ) Among the political person running for the 2008 United States presidential election, Barack Obama is one of the most politicians to receive positive feedbacks among the American public.

Barack Obama, as one the United States presidential had been phenomenal to his political campaign, on which Obama had garner positive feedbacks on votes from most of the states in the entire United of America. In most of the political rallies Barack Obama, he often says America, as a united country must stand together and work together, on which everyone has a fair share of obligation to make the country productive and strong economically as well as socially.

This is how Barack Obama envisions the United States of America should be, on which he carry the tag-line “change, we can believe”, together with his supporters in all of his political rallies. (Barack Obama. com) In ancient politics, however, the Greek classical philosopher, Socrates, is one of the most popular political advocates of their own definition of ideal government. As a philosopher, Socrates has a bunch of in-depth insights about many forms of government, on which he as a thinker has a profound definition of government.

In principle, Socrates is an oppositionist of many forms of government, more specifically the democracy. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) Just like Barack Obama, Socrates advocates his own version of an ideal government, on which he consistently pursue up to the last drop of his blood. Relating this to the current political situation of the United States, this classical argumentative paper will claim who would be the better candidate for the United States of America’s presidential election in the year 2008, between one of the prime democrat candidate Barack Obama and the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates.

Technically, Barack Obama and Socrates differ with each other on their explanation of ideal state government. As an oppositionist of many currently existing form of government, Socrates’ representation of an ideal form of government is more strict and profound, on which the structure of his ideal governance in state government is totally an antagonism to the entire principle of democracy. In his ideal Government, Socrates states that his principle structure of perfect government is divided into three major parts, on which are Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The Gold being the head of the state or government that their primary role is to rule and lead over its people: the silver is the army or soldier, on which their primary purpose or responsibility is to protect the welfare of the head of state or the government: and the last is bronze, as the common people who is classified by Socrates as the Laborer and the lowest least priority or part in his ideal government. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

Essentially, Socrates’ model of his ideal government for the state disagrees with the principle of democracy, on which most of the people, most especially those who belongs in the least bronze category do not have the same human rights as compare to the two more prominent division of Socrates’ ideal government. Nevertheless, the Greek philosopher Socrates’ model of ideal government do not cater to the needs and priority of the common people or the public of the state.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, as one of the United Sates presidential candidate for the 2008 election, uses the principle of democracy for the entire United States of America, as his personal definition of ideal state government. As a contradict to the ideal government principle of Socrates, the democrat prime candidate Barack Obama is an advocate of the so called democracy, as his primary definition of an ideal state government.

A true democrat that he is, presidential contender Barack Obama believes that every American has its fair share of right to help the entire country of the United States grow bigger and stronger, economically and socially. (Barack Obama. com) Moreover, the ideal governance of Barack Obama for the entire United States of America caters the needs and prioritizes the sake of the people in the entire states of America.

Barack Obama believes that every American or citizen of the state has its profound capability to protect and contribute to the future of the entire United States, on which the ideal government of Barack Obama gives every individual an equal share of freedom and right to do their share for the betterment of the entire American Nation. Nevertheless, Barack Obama’s ideal state government for the whole America centers to the good and better sake of all the Americans, towards the reconstruction of unified, strong and competent future of the whole United States of America.

(Barack Obama. com) In every state or country, government head or leader is important. He or she is the one in-charge to take care of the future and welfare of the nation as well as to its people. Essentially, the leader of the state is the one in driver seat to further achieve and enhance the dream or the American dream for the United States. However, between the democrat leader Barack Obama and the ancient Greek leader Socrates, the American democrat Barack Obama is more deserving to be the best and the next country leader of the entire United States of America.

I argue that Socrates as a philosopher and an oppositionist of the principle of democracy, his type of leadership is not suitable for a democratic country like the United States of America, which is better known for its outstanding freedom and equality in its states government. More likely, the Leadership of Socrates is comparable to a dictatorial governance, on which he is the type of a leader that only practice personal and motives, as against to the priority and sake of the entire country.

Nevertheless, Socrates, as a leader is selfish in away he does not believe to the equal right or freedom of every people on a state, regardless of their status and role in life. Barack Obama, on the other hand, is the type of leader who believes and relies to the support as well as significance of the entire American people in rebuilding the nation and dreams of the whole United States. Barack Obama, as a leader is an advocate of equality of citizenry, on which he have the faith for the people to make their fair share to build and achieved to together the bright future of the entire United States.

As the nation’s favorite democrat candidate for United States presidency, definitely Barack Obama is the deserving and best leader for the United States against Socrates, on which Barack Obama’s faith in the American people, as a critical player towards the change and improvement of the whole nation is a superb quality of a best leader to lead the country for the next generations. Nevertheless, Barack Obama is the type of leader whose goal is not for his own personal growth or sake, rather he centers more for priority of his people and nation.

In every form of government, the people or the person in the state plays a significant role, no which the public or the people hold the key towards the success of the politician and its government in general. In Socrates’ ideal form of government, he depicts the primary role of the common people or person as the laborers or the least division in his ideal governance, on which his version of ideal government gives the least priority for the person in his government.

Barack Obama, however, depicts the role of person in his ideal form of government as one of the important aspects towards the achievement of strong and bright future of the entire United States of America. Moreover, Barack Obama illustrated the person role as the primary way to change the current political situation and dilemma of the United States of America at the moment. Nevertheless, in Obama’s form of government, he believes to power of equality and significant of the person, as the catalysts of change in the state governance, towards the social and economical growth of the entire American nation.

In the end, social contract is the best type of government for the United State of America, on which it has the profound capability to effect and implement equality on its people, regardless of their status and position in life. Social Contract, it is definite that no one is above the law or constitution of the land, with this it is fair enough to say social contract is the best for the entire United States of America to ensure fairness and equality of every Americans. Prepared Remarks of President Barack Obama: Back to school Event

One of the most important and discussed topics in politics has always been education because of its decisive role in society. Education is the key stone for the generations to come and well educated citizens are a necessity for a successful society in the 21st century. Politicians also make education a high priority because they know it is where votes can be drawn. A politician who also is concerned about the matter of education is President Barrack Obama. And in his speech “Prepared Remarks of President Barack Obama: Back to School Event” held in Arlington, Virginia on September 8, 2009, he addresses to the Americans students the importance of education and emphasizes that the responsibility to do well in school lies with the students themselves.

This is a responsibility that they have to meet, not only for their own sake but for the sake of their country. President Obama emphasizes the importance of education and self-responsibility to children from kindergarten to 12th grade. Children at that age can be difficult to address to, especially with such a big size of group, so Obama must use various approaches to make it possible. He talks to them as an equal so young audience can identify with him and not only see him as the President. He uses a simple and informal language with many repetitions and examples they can relate to. He starts out by saying “Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today?”(Page 1, line 1). He speaks directly to the audience to get their attention.

He needs the attention from the children and hold on them to get through with his message. He does that by gaining their respect for him and shows that he sincerely cares about them. In the beginning of the speech Obama tells about his story from when he was young. How he was raised by his mother who did not had any money to take him to school, so she had to give him lessons at home at 4:30 in the morning. He also mentions things he did he is not proud of that got him in troubles. Then Obama shares and opens up about his personal stories, he uses ethos in his arguments to increase his reliability with the audience. It makes it easier for Obama to get through with his message when the people he talks to have his respect.

Obama starts stressing his message after he has achieved the audience’s attention. Obama has two main messages in his speech. The first one is that the self-responsibility of the education lies with the student. Maybe the parents and the teachers also have some responsibility for the student, but it all comes the student “none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities”(Page 2, line 30). The students will not have everything served for them; it is their turn to take action and take responsibility for their choices. The second one is that the students also have a responsibility for the nation. The nation depends on the students to get a well education.

The future of the nation lies with the students to be a functional part of the US society so the nation can operate and compete “What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.”(Page 2, lines 52-54). Obama is addressing to the students patriotic American inside them. Most American is raised to be patriotic and Obama knows hot to make use of it. Everybody wants to be a part of something that has an influence on the nation, and every student has the responsibility to their nation “We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect … If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.”(Page 2, lines 62-64).

Obama begins to speak about how hard work is the most important key to success. Everybody has the opportunity to succeed. Here he indirectly refers to the American Dream; with hard work you can accomplish everything. “Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.”(Page 3, lines 88-90).

He uses himself and Michelle Obama, the first lady, while using pathos as examples of people who started from the button with bad conditions and build up to become successful. He comes up with three other cases than himself: “Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren’t any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And i expect all of you to do the same”(Page 4, lines 105-107)

Obama uses the sponsorship effect to create ethos. He also uses Michael Jordan’s and J. K. Rowling’s story to get it out that you cannot succeed without failing. Obama uses persons who are idol to many so they get
inspired to try to accomplish the same success. He wants the students to understand that if they want to be successful, they need to set goals for themselves and take responsibility for their education for that to happen. Throughout the speech, Obama uses a number of different strategies to affect the broad group of audience. By use concrete example they can relate to with a language everybody is able to understand, he inspires and motivates the young people who is the future of the USA.

If I Would Be The President Of India

Many of us have some aspirations and wishes for our country that we desire to fulfill and some changes to bring about, but we feel that we have little say in getting those things done. This is because of our limited power as citizens of the country. Each of us has our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the country which we ought to remember and abide by. But privileges and power to bring amendments to the policies and laws in the country are held with the higher authorities like the President. There are many problems that afflict the society today.

Most of these require strict laws by the governance to bring about a considerable change. If I were the President of the country, I would have taken up the issues that adversely affect the society and our country. Increasing pollution levels, growing economic disparity, descending environment consciousness amongst the citizens are some of the major problems that trouble me a lot among all the severe problems that our country faces. We may have seen progress and development in many areas and the socio-economic standards may have risen.

However the unscrupulous acts like increased use of cars, deforestation to start industrial set ups and increasing wastage of natural resources and less greener surroundings are some of the problems that may look trivial to handle, but need stringent laws and firm steps to replenish the damage done so far. Being a president, I would like to implement policies that would enforce laws on deforestation and discourage large scale set ups from destroying green pastures beyond a limit by imposing heavy fines. I would encourage setting up of recycling industries and fund state governments for the same.

There would be strict laws to punish people doing any harm to environment by polluting it, throwing waste and litter in open spaces and discourage use of non-renewable resources like petrol and crude oil by factories. Instead, more and more funds shall be directed towards developing electric cars or cars driven by water that will reduce the dependency on petrol and also prevent pollution of the environment. Also I shall increase the prices of cigarettes in order to give yet another reason for people to quit smoking.

It would be a great measure as it will help control the pollution levels to some extent and also promise better health and reduce the population of people suffering from chronic diseases. Another attempt will be towards establishing friendly relations with neighboring countries and also enhance better trade without many constraints between the two countries. This will ensure a better and cheaper supply of goods and scarcity of resources which are abundant in other countries can be made available to people of my country and vice versa.

Policies to provide better machines and sufficient financial assistance to the poor farmers will be implemented. This will help reduce the burden on farmers who are under the pressure of providing subsidized farm products to the nation even at the cost of their own loss. They shall be able to provide cheaply produced goods and inflation rate could also be controlled. All my efforts would be initiated, keeping in mind the interest and the wellbeing of the people of my nation.

Republic Day Speech: President Ram Nath Kovind

Table of contents

Dear Citizens, on this important day on the eve of 55th Republic Day of India, I am indeed happy to greet all the billion citizens of our country including those living abroad. I also greet the members of the armed forces and paramilitary forces who guard our frontiers on the land, the sea and the air and also internal security forces. I would like to share some of my thoughts for evolution of a beautiful India, combining economic prosperity and value system drawn from our civilizational heritage.

Indian economic scenario

Indian economy shows a very robust and consistent growth, indicated by the recent 8. 4% GDP growth in the second quarter of 2003-2004. Our foreign exchange reserves have crossed the $100 billion mark and are continuously rising. The rupee is steady and the middle class resurgence and the domestic buying power are on the rise. This has made our economy one of the fastest growing in the world. The time has come for these economic benefits to reach speedily the rural population through development programmes such as PURA – Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas and Interlinking of Rivers.Economists all around the world predict that by the year 2020, the world economic scenario will be completely different from what it is today, and that India will occupy the pride of position.

Indian industries in certain sectors have matured to be very responsive to the national and international needs and have shown steady growth inspite of earlier adverse predictions. Interest rates from the banks need to be more proactive to stimulate the growth of the right type of small, medium scale industry and agro food processing industries. The combination of entrepreneurship education in the schools and colleges, the hassle free flow of venture capital and evolution of good market will give additional momentum for national growth. Transforming India into a competitive beautiful nation Dear citizens, for the next five years, with certain progress behind us, the challenge we have, is to launch a major thrust for attaining national prosperity. We should convert the present opportunity and work towards giving our future generations, a competitive nation which has the following characteristics.

Profile of Competitive India

  1. A Nation that is prosperous, healthy, secure, peaceful and happy.
  2. A Nation where the rural and urban divide has reduced to a thin line.
  3. A Nation where there is an equitable distribution of energy and quality water.
  4. A Nation where agriculture, industry and service sector work together in symphony, absorbing technology thereby resulting in sustained wealth generation leading to higher employment potential.
  5. A Nation where education is not denied to any meritorious candidates because of societal or economic discrimination.
  6. A Nation which is the best destination for the most talented scholars and scientists all over the world.
  7. A Nation where the best of health care is available to all the billion population and the diseases like AIDS/TB, water borne diseases, Cardiac diseases and Cancer are extinct.
  8. A Nation where the governance uses the best of the technologies to be responsive, transparent, easily accessible and simple in rules, thereby corruption free.
  9.  A Nation where poverty has been totally alleviated, illiteracy and crime against women are eradicated and the society is unalienated.
  10. A Nation that is one of the best places to live in, on the earth and brings smiles on a billion faces.

These are the ten dimensional transformations needed for a competitive India and we have to work for. Peace in the offing For continuing our mission of national development and economic growth in our sub-continent, peace is a paramount ingredient. Most nations have realized that low intensity proxy wars, deterrence based buildups and real wars are too expensive detractors from the perceived visions of development.

The development of the society also weans away its people from destructive activities of alienation, leading to celebration of peace-makers. When guns are silent, Flowers blossom on the earth; Fragrance engulfs good souls, Who created beautiful silence. India will always be grateful to the successful peacemakers. Towards Unity of minds Dear citizens, when I assumed office on 25th July 2002, I addressed the need for unity of minds becoming one of the focused missions for our nation. Recently fifteen Gurus, Acharyas, Swamijis, Maulavis, Reverent Fathers, Spiritual leaders, devotees and the representatives of many religions met at Surat in the presence of His Holiness Acharya Mahaprajna and deliberated for two days and took vital decisions leading to the religions graduating as spiritual force. Also, they have declared that the nation is bigger than any leader or individual or an organization. They had collectively evolved five inter-religious projects for implementation.

Nation’s best wishes to our spiritual leaders and their mission of transforming religions into a spiritual force. Challenges before Us Also certain challenges before the nation are to be addressed collectively in the immediate future to facilitate faster pace of national development.

Why Do We Believe Presidents Have Power Over the Economy?

The national economy is consistently on the mind of business owners and investors and finds prominence for everyone in four year intervals as we compare candidates and their respective platforms.

Related:

The economic health of the country is vital to our future, including the ability to fund liabilities while providing an environment of prosperity for forthcoming generations. And just as pressing is our current ability to keep unemployment low, wages increasing, and inflation in a fertile range. So it is typical that we look to our commander-in-chief to command growth on our behalf. But if we view the idea of presidential power over the economy with a mindful eye, we notice the practical limitations of policy and recognize our belief in Oval Office omnipotence as illogical.

Historically, we assume direct causation between a president’s actions and economic growth. With big expectations we pledge allegiance to a candidate’s grand ideas and qualifications. We take sides in the ideological battle that matches government spending and higher taxation against smaller government and lower taxes.

This election cycle, each candidate again claims supremacy both through hyperbole and citing past presidents as evidence. Republicans tout Reagan, who averaged more than  every month in office, and Democrats refer to Clinton, who averaged nearly  during his administration.

confirms that our country’s economy has performed markedly better during Democratic presidencies. Admittedly, these statistics are striking at first. However, whether claims are pure hype or indeed data-driven, there is a central realization that we must become aware of. Despite history, presidential causation on economic growth is a myth.

The cyclical nature of the economy is enough to weaken any claim of presidential control. Recognizing that growth has a human element, we know its trajectory will be imperfect. Misinterpretation of an economy’s strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) should be expected.

Businesses consistently over and undervalue investment opportunity, and create volatility. Disparity in valuation techniques, dissimilar goals and even the relative value of our currency all greatly influence the economy. Expansion and contraction are both inevitable and necessary.

Economic growth is centered on flawed human interaction, and by happenstance, presidents thrive or languish based on trends. There is almost nothing a candidate can do about it. Their fates are decided well before they take the oath of office. And the aforementioned data advertising the economic superiority of Democrat presidents; therefore, is rationally attributable to randomness.

Related:

Consumer sentiment and the role of luck further the divide between presidential power and economic performance. What makes an economy grow is consumption. The population of the U.S. is past , and when those people are confident, they spend. How the consumer is feeling is by far what matters most, and what actually affects their mood has nothing to do with presidential policy.

Further, luck plays a major role and manifests in many ways. Whether the advent of a new product or service, the interconnectedness of global markets, or even a colder than normal winter, luck matters for growth. Simply, there are too many factors with potential to impact, making an economy ebb and flow regardless of who is president.

Establishing that our economy exists in an environment of cyclical disequilibrium, shifting sentiment and luck, we put to rest the myth of the economic president, and deliver our attention to something more perplexing – Why do we put so much faith in such foolish ideas like presidential-economic causation?

We live in a world almost entirely out of our control. We cannot govern the economic cycle any more than we can the weather.

So humans developed a brilliant, albeit destructive solution. Where little or no control exist, one substitutes familiarity  – in the form of habits. That is, when control is not an option, we unconsciously cling to behavior that feels familiar. We have evolved our minds such that familiarity gives us the same mental satisfaction as control.

For example, we recognize the limitations of a president on economic growth but the illogical habit of putting our faith in one person feels better than admitting the truth. It happens in our businesses and lives, and we all know first-hand the famous saying about doing the same thing again and again while expecting different results. We literally trick ourselves, replacing control with the familiarity of habits. It turns out, we would rather suffer in familiarity than prosper in uncertainty.

Related:

Fortunately, there is plenty of prosperity to be attained, but you cannot create equilibrium in an economy, a business or life without accepting what truly drives decision making. Once we see our habitual behaviors as nothing more than familiar crutches, we can stop struggling with the heaviness of our control issues and finally approach effective, sustainable objectivity – including our vote.
