My name is Mercedez JaNae Jordan and I am from Chicago. I am a very outgoing and passionate. I have been through a lot of obstacles in my life. I am taking this class to graduate on time and move forward in my life pursue my dream today. When I was little I my brother was almost kidnapped was a surreal and life learning. When I seen my brother being taken I was little but I still ran to save him.

When I seen my father leave the feeling was bitter sweet because my mom was relieved and you could see her happiness in a long time but also because my father was no longer there to lean on.

The last life surprise was my brother moving to California when I was like 13, I was so close to my brother it was sad to see him leave but it was the best for him. My brother needed a new start because he didn’t understand the value of him mistakes but he was my best friend so he no longer in my life was so surreal. I have seen a lot of things in my life that a lot of people will never see in theirs. I am 18 years old and have a lot of hopes and dreams and plan to accomplish every single one of them.

My First Day at School

Whenever I would start my first day of school, my mom would always ask, ” Did you make any friends?” and I would always blow if off with some answer like Oh…yeah I guess so”, when in my head I was saying , ”why are you asking me this?” Today, my friends are some of the most important people in my life, just as important as my family. Like family , there isn’t a definition for friend that suffices, since it just briefly explains the emotional attachment instead of everything behind that emotion.

Elbert Hubbard, a writer from the late 19th century, phrased it the best . My own definition of a friend is a person to always turn to no matter what, the one that is always there to listen without giving judgement or insults, and the one who really know me best. Some people may ask, well isn’t your family all of those things, which poses the question, who is more important? This is a question that I often ponder and it is extremely difficult to ever come to any conclusion being that these two groups of people are so important to me, so choosing one over the other feels impossible.

Thinking about this question is like playing a game of ping-pong, just back and forth interminably. When I think of family, they are the people who are always there, whether I want them or not. ( yes there are those times that I don’t really want them there and just need space.) But what happens when the family that has always been there isn’t anymore? One time my mom and I were having one of our I know it is stupid but I’m still mad at you about it fights and weren’t exactly on speaking terms. Walking into school that day, I was very down and feeling like I was sinking.

Like Robin Williams in Jumanji, quicksand was pulling me deeper and deeper into the floor and I was up to my chin in guilt and stress. My best friend immediately assumed that something was wrong ; ”I could see it in your eyes,” she told me later that day. Instead of our conversation becoming a doctor Phil session, she didn’t even ask me about it. I remember she said to me , “so did you watch Pretty Little Liars last night! Oh my god it was so good!” That all I needed, for her to pull me out of the floor and cheer me up when nobody else could.

Friends are also the ones that will be there to listen no matter what the situation might be. Sometimes, I just don’t want to talk to my family about certain things. That is where my friends come in. I know that if I have a problem, I can tell a friend and be consoled, get guidance , or just have them listen. I distinctly remember having trouble deciding what classes I would take at school for the upcoming year.

My parents had all the confidence that I would do fine in anything that I would take, however they’re parent and they’re supposed to say that! I wanted an honest opinion, so at lunch one day , I sat down with a bunch of my friends and we all talked about what to take in the year to come.

We also gave other our opinions of what each other should take. That was a great because it not only gave me an idea of what to take, but I also helped my friends decide. What I believe is the most important characteristic of friends is that they are the ones that know you best, sometimes even better than you know yourself. That is why Hubbard’s quote is so tremendous, because they are the ones that ”know all about you and still like you.”

I mean, it is certainly one thing to know pretty much everything about a person, but you could still utterly despise them! It is like the classic hero and villain stories, they know pretty much everything about each other, but they are still worst enemies. This is what really separates the friends from family because people feel that you have to like someone since there is that pressure of being relatives. It is somehow bond that would be a sin if broken. I find this to be why many call their best friend their ”partner in crime,” because they are on the same side and that is where they want to be . with my family, there are already certain ideas and expectations of who I am.

They raised me a certain way, hoping that I turn out as a ”good person ”. Being that friends originate as strangers, they can only learn about me through my words, thoughts, and actions, and the same goes for me learning about them. I am constantly trying to stay away from stereotypes because I know that 99.9% of the time, those are incorrectly portraying who the person is. Since most of my friends are ones I see frequently, we are always learning things about each other.

When I say that some friends know you better than you know yourself, I am referring to how some friends know what you are going to say or how you act in certain situations. When it comes to my best friends and me, we have that sort of relationship that she would know how I would react in a specific situation or what I would say. Sometimes, as people, we cant see certain things about ourselves that others can see and friends bring those things to surface.

My game of ping-pong over who is more important in my life, friends or family, has been going on for a while now. When I consider how important my friends really are in my life, I come to the conclusion that they are more important than family. My definition of a friend is a person to always turn to no matter what, the one that is always there to listen without giving judgment or insults, and is the one who really know me best.

This is not to say that family isn’t important because they really are. Family is good for a lot of things but friends are truly priceless. Now I know why my mom always asked me on the first day of school, ”Did you make any friends?”, because everyone needs them in their lives

In School Life is a melancholy poem written by John Greenleaf Whittier. In the poem an old man reflects back upon his life and remembers his childhood days. After the speaker tells of how he met his first love he returns to the present time. Still memory to a gray-haired man. That sweet child-face is showing. He is an old man now but he still vividly remembers down to the last detail, how he met her. This is one of those things that he will never forget as long as he lives. Dear girl! They no longer have time to work one on one with them. Unlike public schooling, home schooling allows parents to teach in a style and at a pace that best fits their child”s needs.

Home schooled children are not held back in the same grade if they are lagging behind in particular subjects. Their parents can move them to the next grade and tutor them in the subjects they are having trouble with. Children who are home schooled also get individual attention from their parents. They do not have to worry about waiting for their teacher to find time to help them. It is becoming apparent to many parents that home schooling meets the individual needs of their child better than public schooling.

Finally, parents of children with physical and mental disabilities are finding that home schooling meets their child”s handicap needs better than public schooling. A major downfall of public schooling is that handicapped students are graded in the same style as the rest of the students. In public schools, children with handicaps are still expected to complete all of their assignments in the same given time as other students. Teachers are not taking these children”s handicaps into consideration.

For example, children with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) have trouble staying focused and are easily distracted. As a result of constantly being distracted, they are not able to complete their assignments. This type of grading style has become a great concern for parents of disabled children. Because of situations like this one, parents are making decisions to teach their disabled children at home. By teaching their children at home they are in an environment that is equipped to aid in their development.

For instance, children with ADD are in an environment where they will not be influenced by the action of other children and cannot be as easily distracted. In addition, they have special time to complete their assignments, as well as have all of their assignments tailored to fit their abilities and needs. By home schooling, children with learning disabilities are given equal chances of succeeding in their education which they otherwise would not get in public schooling. Malaysia’s Seven Types of Schools

They are Malay schools, Tamil schools, Chinese schools, international schools, private schools, and religious schools. There is only one type of Malay schools and they are the Malay government schools. Malay schools are the most common types of schools in Malaysia. You can find at least one Malay school in a town. Malay schools are divided into two. They are the Malay primary schools and the Malay secondary schools.

Malaysians start their primary school education at the age of seven. They will then be in standard 1 and they will stay until they are in standard 6, which is until they are 12 years old. The following year they will go to form 1 in the secondary school and they will continue studying there until they finish form 5 so that they can go to either college or start work immediately or they can continue to form 6 so that they can go to university immediately thereafter.

Every student has to sit for the UPSR examination when they are in standard 6, the PMR examination when they are in form 3, the SPM examination when they are in form 5, and the STPM examination when they are in form 6. All the lessons in the primary and secondary schools are, with the exception of the English lesson, are conducted in Malay. There is only one type of Tamil school in Malaysia and they are the government ones. Tamil schools are very much like the Malay schools with the exception that all lessons except English and Malay are in Tamil.

Their syllabus is a lot like the syllabus of the Malay schools. The only difference is that they have to enter a Malay school when they go to form one. They normally spend a year in a special class after they finish the UPSR examination so that they can cope with the high standard of Malay in the Malay school they will be going to. Then they will they will continue studying at the school like any other student. Chinese schools are very much like Tamil schools. All their lessons except English and Malay are in Chinese. Their syllabus is a lot like the syllabus of the Malay schools.

However, they can choose to continue their education in a Chinese secondary school after they finish their UPSR examination or they can choose to go to a special class after the examination and then continue their education in a Malay secondary school. There are two types of international schools, the private ones that follow the British syllabus, and the government ones that follow the Malaysian syllabus. The private international schools can be mainly found in Kuala Lumpur whereas the government ones can be found in almost every state capital.

An example of a private international school is the Alice Smith International School in Kuala Lumpur and an example of government international schools is the Sri Utama International School. Private schools are run totally by the school board without any help from the government at all. If they have any problems, they have to overcome it themselves. They get no funding from the government so they have to get money by whatever means they can. That is why the school fees are very expensive. Their syllabus is basically like the normal syllabus of the government schools. Las,t but definitely not least, is the Islamic religious schools.

Islamic students go there to learn about their religion and to learn how to speak and write Jawi. They normally study there for six years, but those who are really interested can go to a secondary school that teaches mainly Islam. There they will also learn all the other subjects that normal students do. We should be happy that we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to a school to have an education. There are hundreds if not thousands of children out there who do not have the opportunity to go to school. So my friends do not waste this opportunity. Use it while you can.
